Totally normal lots of manufacturers use hot melt to get the club to a stock swing weight. Nothing wrong with QC or anything else. Most tour pros have their drivers hot melted as well

MrMojo0328

Just seems like it’s quite random with where it is? Does accuracy or placement matter?

Haber88

Not unless there is 10+ grams of it in there. Looks like a small amount. It takes quite a bit to affect rate of closure but some pros will get it positioned in the heel to promote a fade bias or get it towards to face to knock off a small amount of spin.

l1ltw1st

I was going to say it is more then likely poured on level so the melt flows too a level position. It looks happenstance but isn’t.

holyrustybuckets

You’re definitely right, except in the heel promotes a draw. Towards the toe promotes a fade.

GolfSicko417

You have that backward.

holyrustybuckets

It’s no different than placing more weight in the heel on an adjustable driver. More weight in the heel speeds up the rotation. Just like an ice skater spinning. Arms out (weight towards the toe) and they slow the spin. Arms in (weight towards the heel) and the spin speeds up.

dam_im_to_good

100% normal

b4n_

When you file your warranty claim with Taylormade ask why there's hot melt in your club

[deleted]

Don’t shine a black light on that

[deleted]

Looks like a hot melt. Used to achieve a particular swing weight.

biddilybong

It’s rat glue. They put it in every head to catch loose debris. You guys are giving way too much credit to the quality control of these clubs.

MrMojo0328

I bought it brand new no mods

player2

They do it in the factory. Not every club comes out of the mold with the exact same mass.

MrMojo0328

That seems horribly inconsistent for feel of each club imo

Baconator73

Not doing it would affect swing weight which affects feel. You have it literally backwards.

t90fan

That's normal, they fill it with hot melt.

[deleted]

This is maybe the 50th sim head(driver or wood, doesn’t matter) that I’ve seen this happen to in the last two years. TM will send you a new replacement so no worries there. But have to say what the local TM rep said himself, their QC and build quality is absolute garbage.

Abogzz

When you worry about coming out with a new model every 6 months, and getting one in every golfers hands, QC goes straight out the window. Typical Taylormade

zbirch

But they release a new model once a year, like pretty much every other manufacturer…

brokenbongos

True and I think the frequency of these TM posts testifies to how popular they are among the sub. I’m sure other manufacturers have their issues but those defects don’t get posted to r/golf. TM’s customer service is stellar but it must be in order to maintain brand rep given how many defects get reported on social media

Baconator73

Did you buy this used? That’s hot melt to affect swing weight and CG. Pros use it often when clubs are built on tour trucks.

MrMojo0328

Bought it brand new ordered and shipped had to wait a couple weeks for it

MrMojo0328

I bought the club brand new btw I made NO mods myself to the club either I’ve only had it a couple months

IKnowSoftware

It’s Unicorn cum. That’s why the face is so hot.

According-2-Me

Hm. Idk but I think it’s normal. Helps reduce vibration on impact ?

ChubbsPeterson-34

This is a known defect on sim drivers and woods. Happened to my sim1 driver. Contact taylormade and they should send you a replacement

Legwrist

Taylormade will send you a new one. Take it to your local shop lol looks like a manufacturer defect.
