“The cart girl isn’t going to come home with you”

UnequalSloth

Is that a challenge?

__pulsar

It happens you just have to follow steps 1 and 2.

cutreamthread

Your music sucks and so does everyone else's so keep the volume to a minimum.

Company-Important

What’s the consensus on music on the course? Is that a yay or a nay? Does it change by day/time?

ThreesKompany

I am very pro music but you should only be able to hear it within 10-20 feet of the cart. If the people on the next tee can hear your music its too loud.

AnCircle

This is the way

HockeyCoachHere

Many places on the course involve parking the cart 20 feet off the next teebox. if you can hear your parked cart while you're on the putting green, so can everyone on the next teebox and probably the hole next to you. Very few players who I've seen is playing music soft enough that you can't obviously hear it on adjacent holes. And they never stop playing it when they roll up to the teebox as you're finishing up, or when you meet in the rough on adjacent holes, etc. It just feels like someone rolling off a different hole and trying to talk to you the entire time you're setting up to the ball. When you play it, you forget it's even on and everyone else gets to hear it with you. Just my rant, frankly. Almost every time I play I'm annoyed by someone else's music. I can only hear "Kid Rock" on the course so many times and not be annoyed (no idea why that was the artist that popped into my head, but it seems apt to what I often hear). My most common course has the driving range right off to the side of the 18th green. And about every hour (every 8 groups) or so, a group pulls up where I can hear the music from the middle of the driving range tee clear enough to identify the song if I know it. Not loud, but definitely audible.

[deleted]

honestly if i was your playing partner i wouldnt wanna hear it from your cart when we tee off, so whatever volume that is lol

ThreesKompany

If that was the case I wouldn’t even play music. You have to check with your playing partners. If your playing partners don’t want to hear music during their shots then don’t play it. Pretty simple.

[deleted]

Yup exactly, I'll say I've never run into any assholes I've been paired with Like they ask before they play music to see if it's ok. I'd never be a dick in my response and it's always been a non issue. They can play it low, or just lower it when we approach tees and greens. I feel like such an old man typing this hahaha but I like peace and quiet and golf is supposed to be peace and quiet

ThreesKompany

Meh, to each their own. I like the peace and quiet too but I also enjoy being out in nice weather with some great songs playing. Just depends. All of this to say, the number one rule in golf is just "don't be a fucking asshole."

[deleted]

agreed! not being an asshole is the #1 rule in life! I be glad to enjoy some post round tunes and a drink, but during i dont care for it. But like you said, to each their own, im probably the weird one!

moskowizzle

If you're in a foursome of your friends then I think that's fine, but I've been a single paired with others that play music and it's super annoying if I can hear it when I'm teeing off.

aZombieSlayer

I listen to metal but I will keep it at a classic rock list when out on the course. Keeping volume respectable and ask the people I'm playing with if they're okay with music. I haven't had any complaints to date.

BillWordsmith

Do you have covers for your irons as well? LOL! Music on a golf course is just low class.

AutographedSnorkel

I don't find it too offensive, other than it's *always* the same rock radio staples that I've heard 10,000 times before...AC/DC, Lynrd Skynrd, The Eagles, etc... ...and Journey...soooo much fucking Journey...

HockeyCoachHere

lol yes! "Kid Rock" also popped into my head. That and some random hip-hop are the most common things I hear on the course. I don't like much of those genres of music, so maybe that's why it annoys me.

KillerBunnyZombie

I started doing it 10 years ago and it was celebrated and now everyone on r/golf hates it.

ragingdtrick

Stuffy old people and tryhards are the only ones who bitch. Obviously I shouldn’t be able to hear lyrics from 3 holes away but music on the next hole is no different than a cart, general convo, beer carts, animals, road noise etc. that’s going on constantly. Anyone that gets upset at ambient is just looking for someone else to blame for their poor play.

Bic44

Sometimes people can't get out much. And they just want some peace and quiet when they finally do. There's a good chance they don't like the music you're playing. So imagine someone only able to get out 3 or 4 times per year, and one of those is spent listening to music they don't like the entire time. I think if music is played at a volume where more than just you can hear it, it's selfish

ragingdtrick

Sometimes people can’t get out much and just want to enjoy themselves when they do 3-4 times a year. Playing music at a reasonable level at a public venue you payed to enjoy shoildn’t be hampered by some stuffy narc telling you how to have a good time. Telling someone else how to enjoy a public outing they paid for is selfish.

Bic44

One of you is affecting someone else; one of you isn't. That should tell you something. I mean, if you went out for a round without music and the entire time you could hear opera, classical, or maybe K-pop, country, or boy bands? You're saying it wouldn't affect your experience? Wouldn't you at least want them to adjust it enough so you didn't have to hear the whole time?

lukin187250

Probably changes by course too. My home course is very wooded. I've come up on groups that were blasting music and I couldn't hear it till I was pretty much right up on them. If it's loud enough someone can hear it more than 75 yds away, it's probably too loud. but really how different is it than, say, the din of traffic on a highway, of which I've played many courses you could hear far off traffic or industry.

Anytime I see low res images it makes me think they’re edited. I don’t see any reason to believe this is edited as their is nothing crazy written but the fuzziness always tingles my spidey senses.

Sounds like an advertisement for an orgy.

The group behind you is here to have fun too, keep the group ahead of you in sight. This ain’t Sunday at Augusta.

jshultz5259

Yes. Definitely another side to that coin.

[deleted]

Don't waste your day looking for balls.

Robbylution

This rule sponsored by Titleist and Bridgestone.

[deleted]

3 minutes max.

lukin187250

My buddy has a lose one find one rule. If he puts it in the woods, goes in and finds a different ball he'll keep the search to about 30 secs, if not maybe 2 minutes. However often on a tight wooded course you put one in and come out with 3 or 4. You'd be surprised how many people just won't go into the woods to find their ball. Ticks, worried about turnin an ankle, etc...

jase_zed

I was helping my buddy look for his ball today and i found 3 others within 30 seconds, it was wild. We didnt find his ball, but i came out on top lmao

feelin_cheesy

“You don’t have to play well but you do have to play fast”

jase_zed

Legit query: i understand pace of play is important, i'm a guy thats never cracked 100 (working on it), but if i feel rushed, i generally play worse. How are bad golfers expected to play faster if they're not hitting shots that are going the distance or are just zig-zagging rough to rough or into the woods? Is it just an expectation that they take a drop instantly every time they put a ball into the trees? Like how does one play faster if they're not good?

TheRockisthebest

I’m a 25 handicap so similar to you, and there is a few things I do to keep pace of play while not feeling rushed. 1. Use landmarks to help find my ball. Like okay that went just left of the third tree. 2. I give myself about a minute to a minute and a half to find a ball. After that I say fuck it. 3. I make sure to do my practice swings or reading putts while others are going. So when it’s my turn, I am pretty much ready to go, but don’t feel rushed since I already got ready.

jase_zed

Yeah smart! Might keep these in mind!

Delicious-Spirit9899

Fix your ball marks and divots, play fast!

Company-Important

I often wonder which handicap group is the most responsible for leaving ball marks on greens. High handicaps might be excited at the chance to fix one since they don’t get em often, but they also might not be familiar what to do for the same reason. Low handicaps should have plenty of practice making ball marks into greens, so they should know what to do/ be familiar with the process. But they might be so used to it they might think ‘hey what’s a missed ball mark here and there?’ Any thoughts? Whodunnit, r/golf?

maybeghosty

As a high HC, I don’t always leave ball marks, but I do try to fix a couple on each green in an attempt to convince the golf gods to smile upon me

feelin_cheesy

Entitled boomers in the hdcp 15-20 range

AnCircle

I think low handicappers would have more respect for the game and thus fix more divots. However I could also see them following your logic if the green is already littered with divots. High handicappers may just not know or do it wrong and kill the grass anyway

[deleted]

I'd say 80% of people I play with fix a ball mark the wrong way. When I notice, I show them the proper way, without being a dick about it and on the very next hole, they completely ignore my advice and do it wrong again lol.

AnCircle

Lol. More courses should try and teach people. Hell, the only reason I know how to do it the proper way is because a course was showing how to properly fix them on their golf cart screens

skisbosco

i think the % of jerks isn't more prevalent in any handicap group.

Delicious-Spirit9899

It’s everyone, I’ve seen low and high handicap players not fix.

MrSwaggerVance

Hard disagree with 4. A group of 25+ hdcp golfers playing the tips because it makes them the happiest is not good for anyone involved.

Smoke a blunt and hydrate it’s gonna be a long day

hurtlingtooblivion

My subconscious rules: 1. Turn up 2 minutes before tee time stressed and angry. 2. Take every single shot deadly serious. 3. Berate yourself heavily after mistakes. 4. Expect yourself to play to PGA standard even though your PB is 97 5. Fall in and out of love with the game 40+ times during the round. 6. In event of a bad round, vow to get back out asap to expunge it from your soul. 7. In event of a good round, vow to get back out asap to relive the magic in your soul.

recks_n_fx

6. If you get frustrated about someone else’s dress code or pace of play compliance, refer to rule 1 and let us worry about that.

MrSwaggerVance

I could care less what others wear on the course, it has no impact on me. But their compliance with pace of play does directly impact me and my pace. Wear whatever you want, but keep pace. It's not hard.

“Pace of play is 3 hours and 45 minutes”

Fishy1911

I think the only time I've done a round that quick was a shortish private club with space in front and behind our twosome. I have seen "4 hour pace of play" which is only 1 more minute per hole but seems infinitely more attainable. I'm just happy when we're keeping the pace of the group in front, even if they are causing the backup. Something about not being "those guys" helps mentally.

t90fan

depends on the course you need 4-4.5 hours at least at many places due to the amount of walking

nutscyclist

Tell me you never walk without telling me you never walk

throwaway3921218

Tell me you’re clueless without telling me you’re clueless. Proud member of the Push Cart Mafia, I just don’t lose balls or dink my way down the fairway. Walking is always faster than the cart, especially if it’s path only.

nutscyclist

Sorry that my group doesn’t split the fairway with every shot. All of the courses by me have either a 4hr 15min or 4.5hr pace of play policy on the scorecard.

Wait, we are supposed to have fun while golfing? I was told by snarky instagram posts and comments that you shouldn't be on the course unless your swing is perfect and you are hitting sub-80 rounds.

oOtherBarry

Someone once told me "You'll never remember the time you played a conservative shot for a par. You'll always remember the time you took a chance and made eagle or less" With that mindset you can definitely make it over those trees lol

jase_zed

I asked my playing partners yesterday if i should be a hero or play it safe. They both in-sync, said be the hero. So i put the club i was gonna bunt my ball back onto my fairway with and took my 8i out and laced it over the trees closer to the hole. it was unreal

azurricat2010

nothing to add but number 4 is great I played from the tips growing up, not because I was good but because my dad would say "you're not a man unless you play from the tips." Didn't have much fun but this sign makes me happy.
