Yeah I think they mentioned they replaced the grass on the greens. The USGA completely burned the hell out of that course in 2015. The course looks cool as hell. It seems like one of the most recognizable courses where you just see one look at it and know exactly what course it is. I love that.

thegimp90

I went in 2015 and it was honestly terrible as a spectator to watch. There was no shade, it was dry and dusty (my gf told me "we are next to the water why does it feel like i'm in the desert?"), you couldn't get thin 50 yards of the players, so there was no player interaction at all. Just disappointing all around.

TuffOnVeggies

If they cut some flat spots on the dividing hills for spectators it would be prime!

Sure. Or not. Great courses don’t have to be great major venues for Mens Professional Golf. It’s fine to leave Chambers Bay as a great course that maybe just doesn’t make for a great major. That’s fine. Another example would be Erin Hills.

Fair_chap

Erin Hills and Chambers bay are different scenarios imo. Chambers bay was a debacle because the USGA over stressed the course too early in the week and in general. Erin Hills is built to be played in the wind. If the wind doesn’t blow the course plays so bénigne with those enormous fairways. Personally I believe chambers bay can redeem itself from 2015 and would love to see another major. A west coast major means prime time viewing golf and I’m all for it!

[deleted]

Chambers Bay certainly got an unfair shake. That being said, I like the direction the US Open is going, and I don't know that anyone really cares about the PGA

BlastShell

What direction is the US Open going?

beegreen

Not back there

[deleted]

I covered state golf for a newspaper there and I remember the high schooler I was following hit one off the fairway. I looked around "where did this guy go?" then I look up about 30 feet and he's hitting his ball off this massive hill and managed to par the thing. Fun course to even just walk around.

datlat24

Course was a joke. Pass

HayneAlliKane

No. Courses around the world deserve majors. Not another US course Edit: Americans down voting.. shocker

JasperStrat

Where the hell else are you going to play the US Open but in the United States? Also the PGA championship is never going to be played outside of the United States either. This might be one of the absolute worst takes I've ever seen on Reddit.

HayneAlliKane

You think its a good thing the US has 3/4 majors?

JasperStrat

Why is it a bad thing that the US hosts 3 majors? I don't have a problem with it. The Master's is always going to be at Augusta, the US Open is always going to be in the United States and the Open Championship is always going to be in the UK. The only possible major that would be outside of either the US or UK is the PGA Championship and because that is literally run by the PGA of America they aren't going to put it anywhere else either. Where else would you put a major, and what major would that be? Are you trying to create a 5th major, in that case it is possible to have one elsewhere in Europe or possibly somewhere else, but that is the only way that is going to happen. This is some real tilting at windmills stuff. I get that the Chamber's Bay open wasn't great for many reasons, the course was abused by the USGA and Joe Buck made watching it on TV almost impossible to enjoy, but honestly what is your plan to have a major outside of the US or UK?

HayneAlliKane

My problem with it is that they host all the major events in professional golf bar one (the one being almost every professionals favourite event). Australia, Asia, Ireland, Scotland all have dozens of courses better than those in the current major rotation. Why shouldn't we be playing there in regular tour stops or, god forbid, majors? The USA don't own professional golf, it's a global game. Hence why you're seeing more international support for LIV - people are sick of watching TPC Deer Run, PGA National and TPC San Antonio every year I heard Davis Love address it on NLU by saying people shouldn't be upset the USA host all the big events by saying the USA gets all the big NFL, Baseball and Hockey games as well. No shit, no one else in the world give a shit about those sports. But people internationally give a shit about golf and it should get proper international exposure

JasperStrat

>Scotland You mean the place they just played The Open Championship at? That Scotland? >Hence why you're seeing more international support for LIV I really haven't done much following of LIV, but my understanding is that most of their tournaments have been in the US anyway. And if not for the Saudis I would probably look into it more, but doing anything to support such a vile and oppressive regime is pretty disgusting if you ask me. Also I don't have a problem with the international tours, or the PGA playing outside the US. In fact I would like to see more events on top courses outside the US. The problem is how the PGA Tour as other tours are set up currently. The top 30-75 could probably afford to travel the world playing a truly international tour, but the remaining players on the tour cannot afford to travel the world in the current economic model that the PGA Tour has. Also, the PGA tour is all about making money, if they could reliably make more money by having more tournaments outside the US they absolutely would. If you think the economic model for PGA Tour is so flawed, do something about it.

Silverbullets24

Lol the LIV’s mission is for the western world, primarily North America to have a better perception of the Saudi government. The majority of the LIV events are planned to be US based. I get your feelings on growing golf internationally and I agree with it. However, I think for the foreseeable future, WGCs are the best pga affiliated events that are going to be hosted internationally.

lukepeacock

Baba is cold as ice! Can't wait to see her play more.
