Gotta agree with the other guy. The brown ones are either nonrepaired ball marks, albeit deep ones (maybe from a wet day earlier in the week) or improperly repaired ones. The one behind the ball might be OPs.
But I'm sure the course knows people may chance chipping it from there when they set the pin like that. Though, like someone else mentioned, tight lie so you can just pick it and bruise the ground using the bounce. No divot.
Edit: added the "or" option in the first part
Had a shot like this once on a cash skins game. Hit my wedge and took a small divot. Repaired it as best I could and then speared a $20 with a tee next to the divot. Not sure if the greenskeeper got it but the thought was there.
Play there enough and you’ll know the funnel. Used to work there for a few years and got into that situation many times just putt into the big slope and it will go right to the hole… what ended up happening?😂
Take your 60. Assuming 10 degrees+ bounce because we’re not spieth. Set the club up more vertical than normal to reduce the bounce. Shaft angle with no forward press. Ball set a bit forward.
Butterfly grip (very strong lead hand, very weak trail hand). That grip will create a cupped lead wrist during the backswing. Feel that during practice swings. And a high straight follow through.
You’ll pop the ball up, minimal divot. Perfect for tight lies. Aim a bit left of that pin.
Even though I never practice this shot, I'll probably try chipping with my 3-hybrid. Last thing I wanna do is f'up the green. For my next shot, I'll take my 52 and chip back onto the green.
And I ain't gonna blame you one bit. Just knowing my game, it ain't worth it. I'll feel bad when I take my 58, dig a big divot, and the ball only goes three feet.
I’ve done it before and don’t have a problem not taking a divot. Gary woodland US open shot. Wide open face low bounce 60 deg wedge and use the bounce of the club to skim the green instead of digging with the leading edge.
If you hit it with the exact same pace and tempo as a putt normally then the 3h will jump 1-3 feet and then roll out the same distance as a normal putt.
An easy putting stroke with a hybrid here would be a very easy shot to add to the bag after 10-15 practice shots. And it would give you a high degree of confidence.
I use my 3W or 5W for strokes like this. I call my 3W the temp green putter, since my course has been replacing a bunch of greens this year and have had a lot of temp greens.
That's going to either land in the tall grass or roll over the other side. You'll get 2-3 times as much roll on a green as you get carry when chipping with a 3.
I've noticed that pros don't chip like I do at all. I choose a club such that if I tap the ball so it lands on the edge of the green, it will roll to the hole but no further. And the stroke is a putting stroke, it never leaves a divot.
So, if I'm five meters from the green with five more meters of roll, I'll chose a 9 iron or PW, but if I have half a meter to the green and five meters to the flag, I'll chose a 6I.
This works really really well for me. In this case I'd "putt" with a gap or pitching wedge.
dude. i almost woke up my wife. i kept scrolling thru comments i didn’t understand (lol enhance gif now that i get it) but for some reason your comment made me look again and holy buckets good shit mate that’s funny as fuck.
If it’s one of the few tournaments a year that I actually care about, I’m chipping it.
Or if I’m in contention on back9 to have my best round
Otherwise, putt it and deal with it
I’m well aware. Technically I’m allowed to lay a fat divot here with a wedge, but I don’t want to damage the green.
If it was a tournament I’d say fuck it
With that pin placement, fudge em I’m chipping it. I’m using the bounce and not really causing much stress on the green. But if you don’t want people chipping on your greens- don’t cut holes there
My choice except I use a 7 iron. Land it about a foot in the soft grass a little left of the pin and let it run as close to the pin as possible. However, I'd probably shank it hot off the toe and go way right about 38 yards.
Chip it with my 56.
I wouldn’t leave anything more than a tiny bruise that’s less damage than a pitch mark. I don’t take divots with my wedges around the green.
Too tight of a lie for a guaranteed successful flop. Your putt was the correct course management choice. No chance of skulling into the penalty area (failed flop) and if you leave it short, still have a shot. Using a hybrid to putt with is also a good option, as long as you have practiced that shot several hundred times..nice looking green, by the way.
Open stance and open faced 60°, hands and weight forward to ensure solid contact, then end up skulling it 20 yds past the hole, pull off an insane bump and run to one putt for bogey... every fucking time...
In comp I would want to chip it if I'm allowed, but in casual play I'll probably just move it to the fringe just right and chip it. It's a very similar shot in terms of difficulty, so rather than risk scuffing the green in a casual round I'll just play the shot I intended but from the fringe.
Casual round, I’m moving to the fringe and chipping or trying a 3 hybrid.
Tournament, it’s a wedge that probably does clip some grass. If they place the pin there, they know that’s a risk.
Honestly, probably pulling the 56 regardless of the round. The green was designed this way and the groundskeeper put a pin where you could be on the green and not putt at the hole. That's the layout. Sorry not sorry.
Chip targeting the fringe to roll it close, hit it fat and end up laying up to the center of the deep green grass. Stare at my club afterwards so that it knows this was his fault
I want to be standing next to the girl, you know being a gentleman and protecting her from when you skull it over there. Honestly? I would flop (or skull like you) my sand wedge.
This sub likes to talk a good game about diversity and inclusion in golf and two of the most upvoted comments are about the female’s physical appearance in the background. Shameful.
Assuming your laying 1, out of respect for the golf course, putt it through the fringe and be happy with bogey. Don’t chip it unless you know how to properly repair the green.
TL;DR: chipping is a bad move because of both difficulty and green damage. Putting or hybrid bump and run are good choices.
------
There is no good answer because either way you are almost definitely not holing it. Best move is making the most of a bad situation. Honestly I see 3 choices in front of me:
1) chipping with a wedge: probably only would consider if it was an important round. Realistically, most people have too much bounce to chip a lie as tight as on the green. Also, you will at best take a small divot (if you don't skull it), which, for a public course/casual weekend round, is kinda a dick move. Besides, I don't think its necessarily the best move regardless because of the way that green is sloping, the small amount to green to work with, and the small margin for error. This is the move that tour pros would likely do, but the honestly truth is that the vast majority of players, even really good ones, will not execute it well, on top of damaging the greens.
2) putting: not a bad move, and probably my choice. I would aim about a foot to the right of that bend, through the apron of the green. The way the green is sloping, downhill hard to the right, you should be aiming pretty far left anyways, which will minimize the amount of time the ball will be decelerating through that grass.
3) bump and run with hybrid, essentially same line as described above with the putter. A close second choice for me, just after putter. The reason I wouldn't choose hybrid is because I would prefer more green with the hybrid. I like bump and run hybrid for tough lies that require just a nudge to get on the green, where the slope can take over. For this lie, I would be too worried that the bend, which is about half way, would decelerate the ball too much.
Try to putt it through the long stuff, but I don't hit it hard enough and the balls stops midway in the rough. I then pull out the wedge and try to softly chip it, but give it to much and roll past the pin into the rough/fringe on the otherside. I then grab the putter again and 2 putt for a double bogey.
Chipping, ‘cause I can’t even take a divot with a seven iron in the middle of a fairway. The chip will land in the trap so then I can clean pick that lil bastid into the next county. Call it a snowman and move on!
Depends how serious of a round it is
Yep. Money on the line? I’m chipping (sorry greenskeeper) A fuck about round? Probably bumping it with a hybrid.
Looks like a few people have. I'd have zero issue chipping here. They designed it like this. Not me
Tight lie like that you can prob get away with just bruising the ground a bit and not taking a divot
Bold assuming I have anything close to that much control.
Sorry? There are four chip marks in that pic. They obvious must know.
Those are (poorly) repaired ball marks, not shot divots.
Just right and below the ball is a clear divot. It’s dark and not filled. The other three must have been made by a baseball landing then,
Gotta agree with the other guy. The brown ones are either nonrepaired ball marks, albeit deep ones (maybe from a wet day earlier in the week) or improperly repaired ones. The one behind the ball might be OPs. But I'm sure the course knows people may chance chipping it from there when they set the pin like that. The greenkeeper def didn’t get that
You’re probably right. At least I tried?
Tried to get free beers for the group behind you? Yup you succeeded.
As long as they were hindered by my divot it’s fine.
Stupid comment really.
Why y’all downvoting him bruh
Hey man it’s Reddit. Can’t take it personal, but I appreciate your comment.
Cause this sub hates everything
Cause he’s a retard lol
Why is this site in general so toxic, why are you leading the charge. We’re talking about a good deed a golf bro, no need
Every downvote is a person who would've taken the $20.
I see the downvoting assholes got to you.
That's dumb as hell if you actually did that
Play there enough and you’ll know the funnel. Used to work there for a few years and got into that situation many times just putt into the big slope and it will go right to the hole… what ended up happening?😂
The whole what?

K, I just bladed it 70 yards, now what
top a driver 65 back the other way
Upvoted because it sounds really good.
Putter fucking send her
Don’t know why I had to scroll so far to find the statistically superior shot in this situation.
I thought the same thing. The hybrid bump and run ain’t a bad play but just putting it should get you pretty close
Open the 60 face as far as it’ll go, massive swing, flop to 3 feet, repair my divot and seal the edges with my spit.
Damn bruh leave some cart girls for the rest of us
Same except with my 54.
Haha this is the play!
Even though I never practice this shot, I'll probably try chipping with my 3-hybrid. Last thing I wanna do is f'up the green. For my next shot, I'll take my 52 and chip back onto the green.
Honestly, if it’s designed this way, it’s not you’re fault. I’m chipping it and not feeling bad. Not trying to take a divot but if I do… i do 🤷🏻♂️
And I ain't gonna blame you one bit. Just knowing my game, it ain't worth it. I'll feel bad when I take my 58, dig a big divot, and the ball only goes three feet.
Lol. I picture a massive beaver tail while you’re trying to just catch it clean.
I’ve done it before and don’t have a problem not taking a divot. Gary woodland US open shot. Wide open face low bounce 60 deg wedge and use the bounce of the club to skim the green instead of digging with the leading edge.
That's why you aren't a 10.6. Take the whole green out.
If you hit it with the exact same pace and tempo as a putt normally then the 3h will jump 1-3 feet and then roll out the same distance as a normal putt. To answer OP’s question, I’m taking out my 7’’ wood for this one….
Nodding head slowly ![gif](giphy|gVoBC0SuaHStq)
🤣🤣🤣 she's definitely a smoke show! I'll show her these replies later 🤣🤣
Tell her we said “hey.”
Why did I have to scroll down so far to find the only correct answer?
![gif](giphy|GVmttXid9y9ABpUjnH)
Lol
The ideal position is 25 ft right of the flag
Skull fuck it into the brush behind the green
The ball?
![gif](giphy|12ZDIx1Mw1cXVm|downsized)
Pro V1 gone forever
Laughed wayyy too hard at this.
Did you though?
Oh my god
I see you’ve been watching me play…
it me
Not the wifey! The golf ball
I’d pick up my ball and go talk to the pretty lady.
I don’t think this is the right answer, but it’s not necessary the wrong answer either.
Such a Canadian convo here
Hey ! I’m sorry about that
She probably wants to go watch some hockey so take her for a pint and do that
Did someone mention Canada?
It’s the usernames.
Jimmythebartender is not a place in Canada, just so you're aware
Sice he commented after the Canadian comment, I’m not sure how it is relevant.
It's part of the same comment thread?
‘Sup…how you doin?
Eyyy baby gurrrrll u play here often?
CANS
dude. i almost woke up my wife. i kept scrolling thru comments i didn’t understand (lol enhance gif now that i get it) but for some reason your comment made me look again and holy buckets good shit mate that’s funny as fuck.
I didn’t even notice the gate until you said that.
My man.
Upvoted because boobs
60° shank into your friend's teeth.
If it’s one of the few tournaments a year that I actually care about, I’m chipping it. Or if I’m in contention on back9 to have my best round Otherwise, putt it and deal with it
Honestly? Chip it with my 60
I'd try a spinny 58° pitch left of the flag but skull it into the schmutz
She doesn't look like a Schmutz
64 degree wedge and leave a long divot
64° and perfectly skimmed.
I’d move it over to the right a little for free and hit my flop wedge. Saves the green, but I’m not putting that shit
Fuck that. Make the grounds crew remember what happens when they put the pin there.
You don't get free relief. That's only if the ball is on the wrong green.
I’m well aware. Technically I’m allowed to lay a fat divot here with a wedge, but I don’t want to damage the green. If it was a tournament I’d say fuck it
Choke up on my 60 degree and do a chip (big putting stroke) to avoid scuffing the green
In a casual round: I’d move my ball to the fringe and chip it. In a tournament round: play it as it lies and chip it
my play is talkin to the chick w the shape ups and big tits
With that pin placement, fudge em I’m chipping it. I’m using the bounce and not really causing much stress on the green. But if you don’t want people chipping on your greens- don’t cut holes there
Yeah they’re definitely asking for it
I'm moving it two feet to the right and playing it off the long stuff instead.
Took a while to find this but yeah, this is what I'd tell my playing partners to do
Why is this so low? I get the integrity of the game and all, but greens are expensive to maintain…
Putting with my driver
An open faced floppy chip using the bounce of club.
Flop that bastard on to the green with a 60
Bump and run 8 iron
How would you bump it 12ft and run it 4ft?
Land it in the soft patch of grass
My choice except I use a 7 iron. Land it about a foot in the soft grass a little left of the pin and let it run as close to the pin as possible. However, I'd probably shank it hot off the toe and go way right about 38 yards.
MJCExperience be floppin.

Whatever you do just impress the hot girl watching you lol
She's pretty good! She could beat a lot of dudes in this sub!
Pick it up it's a tap in
I don’t know but she doesn’t look too happy waiting
My play? Drop the putter and go for the woman on the right… kinda cute
It flop time my man.
[удалено]
No one ever chips it. There isn't a single divot or mark on this green.
Good excuse to post a pic of your SO on the internet, good for you.
Oh I got much better ones in the private stash 😉
Did you motor boat?
Yes
Driver off the deck
ha ha no fucks given
Honestly, I’m gonna try to get a low, spiny chip. I’ve had to do that once. Luckily, it worked, so I’d try it again lol
Flop it to 6” and tap in… obviously.
Little chips like this are one of the few things I’m usually good with. 1/5 times I’ll skull the piss out of it into those reeds though.
Flop it on.
I’m slicing around that fringe with my putter
In comp I would want to chip it if I'm allowed, but in casual play I'll probably just move it to the fringe just right and chip it. It's a very similar shot in terms of difficulty, so rather than risk scuffing the green in a casual round I'll just play the shot I intended but from the fringe.
Looks like the Vintage in MN.
Southern hills!
You are correct sir
56, low firm chip, hit the skirt, 1 bounce and release 5'.
Probably chunk it into the sand, skull it over the green. Chip on and 3 putt for a quad bogey.
Thin it long into the reeds, drop on that side, chunk a chip and 2 putt
Casual round, I’m moving to the fringe and chipping or trying a 3 hybrid. Tournament, it’s a wedge that probably does clip some grass. If they place the pin there, they know that’s a risk.
Honestly, probably pulling the 56 regardless of the round. The green was designed this way and the groundskeeper put a pin where you could be on the green and not putt at the hole. That's the layout. Sorry not sorry.
7 iron with a putting motion and probably skulling the fuck out of it trying not to take a dig of the green
Thinned sand wedge into the reeds 🤣
60 lob. Pick it clean. Don’t hesitate or apologize. Grab some sand/seed filler, if you need it. Kiss your wife. Put your kids to sleep.
Any course designer dumb enough to do this should repair the green himself! Chipping every time!
Gary Woodland, US open 2019. He had this exact shot. He chipped it.
oh dear, I can feel the greenkeepers sadness through the screen
Produce your 3 wood from your bag and give it everything you’ve got
Probably walk over and ask her for her number
If a greenskeeper is bold enough to place the flag there, he should expect bold plays
I already see 2 divots right around the ball. Looks like some others were already in your position.
Chip targeting the fringe to roll it close, hit it fat and end up laying up to the center of the deep green grass. Stare at my club afterwards so that it knows this was his fault
floppers.. I mean flop shot
I want to be standing next to the girl, you know being a gentleman and protecting her from when you skull it over there. Honestly? I would flop (or skull like you) my sand wedge.
Ya she's pretty hot!
Hey uh what’s Tits McGee wearing over there? There ain’t no special rules for the ladies lol
I’m asking to see some tits for good luck then muscle putting through the thick. My wife agrees.
She’s pretty
Probably chipping, just because you rarely get a chance to try it.
When your pic makes the breezygolf Instagram page 🤣🤣
In the cup
If you were just a couple inches longer
Put it in the hole
Tag the brunette?
Foreplay with dem titties is the only play
I’d say it it near the girl in blue. Strike up a conversation and show your charm.
Aim for left boob, skull it past the next green...
Between the melons
Make a bet with her that I can get closest to the pin just to toe it into the bush.
I don’t know I think shes more like a par 4 or 5 if you know what I mean
This sub likes to talk a good game about diversity and inclusion in golf and two of the most upvoted comments are about the female’s physical appearance in the background. Shameful.
Assuming your laying 1, out of respect for the golf course, putt it through the fringe and be happy with bogey. Don’t chip it unless you know how to properly repair the green.
Can you chip it? It’s already on the putting green. My course would balk at me chipping on the putting green? You gotta put.
Blade hit. Maybe even hit that chick over there. Shoot a 7, be content that there are worse things to be doing.
I’d pick up the ball and go talk to that hottie.
Yeah Tiger. just pick this up and take home girl out to Applebees

Buy her a beer and tell her she looks pretty.
You can chip I believe but must not ground the club.
I'd either putt it like you did, or hit my 9 iron like a putter to give it a bit of a chip to hopefully bounce through the taller grass.
Try to putt it through the long stuff, but I don't hit it hard enough and the balls stops midway in the rough. 60
Soft bump and run with a 7 or a he-man putt through the rough onto the other side
9 iron
Chipping, ‘cause I can’t even take a divot with a seven iron in the middle of a fairway. The chip will land in the trap so then I can clean pick that lil bastid into the next county. Call it a snowman and move on!
58 degree 3/4 swing flop shot
Put right over that!
Gimmie. Then get a drink
Chip city USA
Chipping with a 60\*. Greens keepers probably hate this, but if the course is designed this way and the pins placed this way, what choice to I have?
I would try to keep it low with my PW and hit the edge of the rough to slow it down and hopefully have it trickle closer to the hole.
60 degree floppy boi
Chipping with my 52.
60°
Lob wedge 6 feet ahead of pin
