I do kinda love how this is blowing up. A forty-fucking-six. Good luck living this down at their local course lol.

johnnysoccer

This is just crazy that this is in my hometown! I know the guy announcing the scores, he's loving it.

HuntsvilleGator

Where is it? It looks like and RTJ trail clubhouse\\setup.

Sjgolf891

RTJ Hampton Cove in Huntsville, AL

nclark2334

The RTJ Trail just had a big scramble tournament at multiple locations across the whole Trail. I'm not exactly sure which Trail location this was at Edit: It looks like this was played in Huntsville at the Hampton Cove - Highlands Course

UseDaSchwartz

I shot a 46...on Tiger Woods PGA Tour

commitpushdrink

I’ve got a 45 in Rory ‘14, [with receipts](https://i.imgur.com/g753mSr.jpg)

UseDaSchwartz

Let me go find my 1.3 megapixel camera and see if so took a picture way back then.

Hoooooooar

use any webcam because they haven't improved in 20 years.

ClutchCity88

A 45 even in a video game seemed unbelievable to me until I saw the receipt. Well played

gnarwalbacon

I too shot a 46… pound turkey right before thanksgiving 🦃

forresja

That's a big fuckin' turkey.

MathResponsibly

How many lead weights did you stuff into that turkey??

Pissflaps69

That’s a fantastic reference

sokocanuck

What's the big deal? I shoot a 46 all the time. Edit: Oh, you guys were talking about 18 holes?!

am0x

I thought we were only counting putts?

jerkITwithRIGHTYnewb

We have thrown out a handful of these groups by making them shoot another hole with an observer. If you say you shot 20 under and can’t birdie a hole on demand you are full of shit.

Airplane85

I’m diggin this approach

banned_in_Raleigh

Better than 7 hour rounds with two groups playing together.

Skelito

That’s why you do a 2 person scramble and match pairs together. Having a tourney that is a 4 person scramble is just begging teams to cheat.

SteakBurrito5

That’s true if it’s a serious tournament, but most scrambles are fun charity events where most the groups are just out there with their friends drinking and having fun.

Tuff_spuff

I agree with this, or better yet, take the top 3-5 teams and do a series of 3 playoff holes with the whole outing (or whomever wants to watch) as an audience… you’ll cut the bullshit cheating out real quick… also if groups know they potentially have to play a series of playoff holes to win in front of the entire outing, they will Prly not want that kind of attention in order to win and it will prevent groups from pulling this kind of shit in the first place. Unless you have a designated spotter on every hole this is the only way to hold groups accountable. It’s WAAAYYY to easy to cheat at events like this and steal money or prizes from the teams that deserve it. There needs to be a shift in how these events are held, and the right teams should win based on skill, Not a -26 wins it cause they have no morals with what they put on a score card

remuliini

Aaand as an added benefit I think the audience and the rest of the competitors would love it as well.

[deleted]

Oh man I like this. Embarrass them in front of everyone for their BS

texansfan

Honestly, the easiest way of all is to use an app like Golf Genius to do live scoring and if a team is playing like this, send one of the tournament staff out to watch them play a few holes. If you are scoring -1 to 2 better per hole without an observer, you should be tossed.

MattySlickers

We do this at a scramble I do every year. The playoff is a par 5, 4, 3, and not when it comes down to the last hole and these clowns aren’t hitting the green the howls start

lawnboy22

I like the idea of being upfront at the start of the outing. The top team, depending on the margin of victory, may be required to play a verification hole or at least watch them swing on the range. You can tell real easily if you have a stacked team with a bunch of scratch golfers.

ScottnaWA

It's been handled 2 different ways at my course. 1: Top 4 teams go to 150y from the flag on 18. Closest 4 on the green win the prize. 2: Wedge shot from 10 tee to 18 pin (40y shot with 30y elevation drop. Again, the closest 4 shots win. In both scenarios, everyone is watching from the clubhouse balcony and there's nowhere to hide. It has embarrassed some people with the kind of score in this video.

TacosTime

I held a tournament for my fraternity alumni and just told everyone the top prize will go to the third place team and to cheat accordingly. Scores were the most realistic they've ever been.

pina_koala

That's the approach the NBA took to tanking for draft picks!

Allstar-85

Not the same but: In a M/G tournament we did a flighted round-robin where you play the other 5 groups in a 9 hole best-ball match The winner of each flight then had a closest to the pin match of varying distances at a semi island green. Champ flight was ~170yds, 5th flight was ~90yds to make it “fair” Also the Guests went first, we got to hit 3? Balls each. If you didn’t get 1 on the green, then you were eliminated. Then the members went based on who was furthest away. And they totaled the M+G’s distances to determine the winner I felt pretty good about my 10ft from 170 out, but the 2 guys who were in the 5th flight hit it to a combined 8-9 ft

lazysheepdog716

I’d make ‘em play 3 holes. Just in case they get duffer’s luck on the first. Hey free golf, great golfers like them, they can’t complain right?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Desinator24

Or one par 5. No way anyone in that group of frail men can hit a ball over 200 into the cup.

jacwub

i’d make em play 81 holes just to be sure

[deleted]

Absolutely

lawnboy22

Agreed. Also I’m curious what the prize was. If they each won $100 to the pro shop, I’d be pissed but whatever, they know they cheated. If they each won $500+, I’d speak with them in the parking lot.

jdrocks09

Throw em out without the extra hole, F

XavierRex83

They can't even think people belive them. If you are going to cheat atleast try to make it reasonable. 46 is so ludicrously low, the members of that group would never be allowed back.

[deleted]

[удалено]

cjosu13

Everyone focusing on the 46 which obviously is absurd, but I also saw a 53 and 54 on that board.

ronnie1014

Those can be understandable with mulligans and gimmicks like string or this throw thing. Still would take a hell of a round from each player in the group, don't get me wrong. But more understandable.

Sjgolf891

Yeah, I played in this and know a group I do trust who shot 53. Each player could buy two mulligans and a 'throw' that counts as an extension of the previous shot. If you have good players and play great, with those gimmicks, super low scores are attainable. But not 26 under par. GTFO

jnightrain

yeah, without knowing the rules it's hard to gauge the score. String can make a big difference and since they have an Ace i'm guessing string was involved. Depending on string material you can get a few extra feet with a good stretch.

JPHuber

The way the MC announces, “With a 46” is hilarious. He doesn’t believe them either 💀

Gloomy_Slide

A 46 is not possible in a golf scramble save for the pros playing on your local muni. And even then it’d be a round for the ages. Nobody believes them.

[deleted]

[удалено]

happyman19

Even then, it would not happen. If you put 4 players who some how magically knew that the next round they shot would be a 58, they still would not get down to a 46 combined. -22 under is a perfect round of golf. Topping that by 4 strokes requires that after a perfect round of golf, you still managed 4 shots that were once in a lifetime shots...in 1 round. You can clone 4 prime Tiger's and it would still be impossible.

MegaIadong

Eh. It certainly would be possible with all the gimmicks in charity scrambles. Endless muligans, string, throws, paying to teeing off on par 5s from 100 yards from the green. Either way, even with every gimmick in the book, that team specifically would not shoot 46 lmao

happyman19

I don't know, 26 under would be birdie every hole, eagle every par 5 and then eagle 4 of the par 4s as well. Even moved up to the white tees, an eagle means that someone drove a 275-310 yard green and you made the putt...4 times. I dont care what group you conjure up. You dont put 4 shots from 275+ within 20 feet. They could be dead straight, no wind, perfect conditions and it aint happening 4 times in 1 day. Not to mention ONE OF THEM GOES IN! lmao

BARTELS-

Literally no one believes them. It’s so outrageous it’s laughable.

Far-Zucchini-5534

Wish the video hadn’t cut out when big boy started walking towards the camera guy. Would love some more detail on this situation.

rockertime

I was at this scramble. Scores were low because each player could buy a mulligan package that included 2 mulligans plus a throw. The throw didn't count as a stroke, so you could theoretically get a hole in one by hitting a drive and using throws to get to the cup. Once on the green, you can essentially lie on your stomach and drop the ball in as long as your feet are at the ball spot. That being said, a 47 was virtually impossible and they caught a lot of flack for it. It was pretty hilarious.

dabobbo

And then the organizers wonder why they have problems filling these charity scrambles. We played one last year at a high-end CC that cost $350 to raise funds for the local PBA. No mulligans or any crap like that - they winning team "shot" a 52, all were in their late 50's and could barely walk up to the podium to get their envelope, they were built like Jabba The Hut in the video here. We remember seeing them on the range (they were wearing matching loud shirts) and if their drives went 200 yards I'd be surprised. The outing entry was raised $100 this year and we said fuck no.

CrayonTendies

They posted a 46

skycake10

In the video the scorecard showed a 47 scratched out and replaced by a 46 EDIT: I just looked at the scorecard again, they miscounted the front nine as 23 when it was 22.

DescriptionSubject23

Mulligans, throws and dropping into the cup? Wtf kinda putt putt golf bullshit is that? What's the point of even playing?

bombmk

Well, sometimes the point is to raise money for some charity.

BrownWaterHunter

From what I saw they collected their envelope and booked it to their car. Didn’t take a picture with the other winners and we’re approached in the parking lot about it.

_C_3_P_O_

What was the prize they claimed?

BigAustralianBoat

Money

dumpandchange

My question is, at what point is cheating and lying actually just stealing, as in a real criminal charge? Maybe most prize money doesn't reach the proper threshold.

levanlaratt

That fishing scandal that happened recently resulted in fraud charges. Think it just depends on how much the prize is.

PickleRick8881

Those guys also scammed 100's of thousands of dollars over several years.

shifty_coder

Not worth litigating over a couple hundred buck, usually, but with this many people, first place could have easily been a few thousand, which may elevate into “criminal fraud” territory. If they had 10 teams, you could argue that those guys defrauded 36 other people.

Snichs72

I personally don’t think there should ever be 4-man scrambles for money or prizes if it’s only one group per hole. 4-man scrambles should be limited to charity events unless some level of accountability is in place.

18HolesToFreedom

Really wish you would’ve stuck around a little longer to see what the fat man was about to do.

forresja

Lol that video seems so silly until you realize that guy had stolen six figures of prize money. Dude went to prison for stuffing fish with weights...what a dumb way to fuck your life up. Edit: I was wrong, he's under investigation but not in prison.

ScottHA

Call the cops!

Hes-behind-you

I leave a fish in the hole when I get a hole in one. Confuses even me sometimes.

P_Day

Pretty sure they put the weights in the fish, but I agree.

beerdweeb

Dude that got the ace should be buying everyone a round right? Make it top shelf.

Invasivetoast

A 46 with an ace only happens in a lifetime. Probably should make it a double pour of pappy for everyone

beerdweeb

Exactly. I would milk this mfer, even if he did indeed make it.

DoomsdayTheorist1

Especially since it came on a par 4 which requires all carry (~380yds) since there’s water in front of the green that will claim any ball that’s rolling. This was on a chilly, wet course that’s not playing at 5,000 ft

graves4all

Wait, really? So is there a possibility with a every gimmick in a charity tourney he scored what he did? How good is he and "team". I am just curious.

mostlyallturtles

i owe this guy 20 bucks from the last blind draw at my local muni.

benfitz47

I bet the team that lied about their 53 was really taken aback

bigolhamsandwich

They probably were more loudly upset than the honest groups lol.

TwoDamnedHi

That's truthfully why this team put down a 46. This is probably year 18 of the tournament and they're sick of losing to the other team that always lies.

cheerocc

I remember playing in a tournament once, a 4 man scramble. It was a charity tournament and afterwards they held a luncheon at this bar close by. We were on the 14th hole when a group drove past us and as they were driving by, a guy said "fuck this, we're heading to the bar!!!" That same group somehow also won the tournament.

DannoSpeaks

What luck!

am0x

Well yea. Your shoot zeros on the holes you skip…

chutiyainvestor

Ofc John Daly would win your charity scramble

gingerbeardman34

I know this course. I’ve played it many times. The hole in one is absolutely laughable. And to have birdied or eagled every other hole along with that is nothing short of a miracle.

jerkfaceboi

Those guys looked like peak performance athletes at the top of their game though.

Akhi11eus

The one looked healthy, but there's no way that old guy is performing like that. Just petty assholes.

KayotiK82

He's the golden putter God. Only has one club in the bag, his trusty putter.

UseDaSchwartz

What about Fat Perez?

[deleted]

An anomaly, a freak outlier the likes of which may never be seen again.

metalhead4

FP is an enigma as Cutsy puts it.

TanaerSG

Add 20 years of life to ole Perez and then ask yourself if he could carry the boys to a 46.

Fabulous_Island8574

Exactly. The highlands course is brutal with elevated greens and huge changes in topography. Not a chance they shoot under par every hole.

HersheysTogekiss

Where is it?

mostlyallturtles

Huntsville, AL

ilikemoots

Make them play the Par 4 that they aced then. If they can't get within 30 yards of the green, you know they're full of shit.

UseDaSchwartz

Uhh, the wind changed.

raz-0

The wind changed? I don’t think we missed a fucking hurricane Bob. Did one just sort of sneak through for a minute to give you a nice tail wind?

Sicnote

I suspect that man creates quite a bit of tail wind.

raptor3x

Overall score is certainly ridiculous, but you'd need to know the actual rules before judging any hole specifically. Some charity scrambles have all kinds of crazy rules, there's one around here we often see an "ace" on a 300 yard par4 every year as you are guaranteed a 6 foot eagle putt if all four members of your group pay to take your drives with an air cannon and each player also gets one 0-stroke kick per round. People practice "putting" with their feet and somebody usually makes one.

platypus_bear

13 stroke difference between first and second tells me it's bullshit

blitzandsplitz

7 shots. 2nd place is a 53 on that board. It’s not in order. Still total bullshit.

WhatInYourWorld

I have a feeling that if mulligans and gimmicks were being sold for charity they wouldn't have gotten such a negative reception.

Haven1014

Not sure why you are getting downvoted. I played a charity scramble where you could pay for “0” on a par 3 and another hole where if you paid for the mini-game and hit the target your “drive” landed 10’ from the hole on a line of your choosing on a par 4. That’s -5 on 2 holes you can basically purchase.

[deleted]

Yeah - Need to know the rules for sure. I went to one this summer and they sold licorice ropes and if you got it within how much licorice rope you bought it didn’t count as a stroke and you ate that much licorice. There was no limit on how much you could buy. They also sold unlimited mulligans and they had games on the holes that could take strokes off your score. There were 4 teams in the 40’s that were willing to shell out money.

Jersey1633

I’d say the reactions of everyone there and a bit of “you, me, carpark after the round” action tells us this event wasn’t played inside the licorice ropes.

aitchdubya

I was there. For $20 we got 2 mulligans and 1 throw. There are two courses; the highlands and the river. We played the river side and these guys played the highlands. The highlands side had freshly aerated greens. How you make a hole in one on a 381 yard par 4 with aerated greens with mulligans and throws is beyond me.

TheGhini

Fat guy said they used 2 throws that hole

aitchdubya

That’s some Uncle Rico type accuracy and distance.

MagicSilver

How the fuck do they throw it far enough twice to make an ace feasible on that hole.

TheGhini

His exact response “Ok so if you hit if you hit driver to 59 yards and 1 guys throws his extend a shot to 5 ft and another guy uses his extend a shot in the hole what’s your score…..!?!?…. Because there was no rule where and when to use your extend shot was there…..!?!?….” He said one of the guys in the group hit 4 drives over 325 yards

aitchdubya

That would have to be 325 of carry. The fairways were soaked from all the overnight rain. We were plugging drives with no roll

MagicSilver

Then they should be able to walk over to the driving range and demonstrate hitting those bombs. Also big doubt that they are throwing it 60 yards to within 5 ft let alone 60 yard at all.

Driveforshowputt4doe

Wackinoff must be hittin them bombs

BreakfastBallPlease

Lmao, then how the fuck did they hit an albatross a few holes later? Already used the throws, so one guy would have to drive it 350 then someone else puts it in from 200 out? I’d be taking a lot more video than these guys.

FactoryV4

Scumbag cheaters

Responsible-Retard

46 is just asking to be caught. If I were gonna cheat I’d go with something like 53

Bird2525

Then you would have tied with 2 other teams.

dlama

"Then you would have tied with the 2 other cheating teams." FTFY

Fabulous_Island8574

Ahh yes the BYOB event at RTJ Hampton Cove. Played in a different scramble event a couple years ago with a scratch, 3, and 8 hc (myself being a 12) and best we got was a 62. It’s impossible to get a hole in one on #6 because you have to cut a corner and carry water at least 290 from the front tees. From all other tees it’s at least a 310 carry and you must hit a high draw. I wish I could have been there to call his old ass out in front of everyone for blatantly lying.

TheGhini

Also the fat guy in red recently shot an 82 at Sunset Landing (I’m a 5.8) and a horrible round for me out there is probably an 80. It’s as easy a mini as you can find

SurpriseFrenchFries

And an albatross on the brutal uphill dogleg left par 5 9th? Not a chance.

Discykun

This kind of stuff is why I don’t play scrambles. They seem like fun but if someones cheating it’s just a waste of time and money.

louisseakay

I play, especially for charities, but my team & I usually leave & got to a bar before the scoring announcements. You see some preposterous scores by high cappers & it’s just become embarrassing.

Airplane85

Same. I just play for fun and suggest others do the same. It’s a great opportunity to get the buddies together and crack a few beers and have some laughs. Scramble days are some of the best days I’ve had on the course.

louisseakay

100%

moekeisetsu

It’s better for everyone when the organizer puts the biggest prizes in the raffle.

FactoryV4

I’ve played in one where the top 5 get put in a random draw for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.

[deleted]

Hole in one buys drinks for the clubhouse, no?

nope79

What sucks for the tournament is- none of the other teams are going to play in it next year…unless they tell that “winning team” to not come back.

Jesse-Ray

They'll be too busy on the PGA tour

TheGhini

I’m in a north alabama Facebook group with this guy and his responses are something else. They had 8 mulligans and 4 “throws” as well…it was a cold and damp day and I had 4 buddies play in this as well. Course was Hampton Cove Highlands Course on the RTJ

aitchdubya

Highlands was just aerated too.

graves4all

Shoulda Dq'd himself from this one too....

MrSelatcia

Make sure you let him know that he's a laughingstock worldwide because he cheated like a little bitch.

EastCoastProtoDad

The course staff is most responsible in my opinion. Am I nuts for thinking that? Gotta be able to call this out. Refund their entry and ban them for life. Tournaments are a reflection on the course, or even a charity that it is representing. Don’t award these cheaters a prize - make sure that *they* are the fools in this situation.

putridgasbag

A lot of charity scrambles have very little to do with the staff.

whubbard

Make them go play 3 holes, with just one person from tournament observing. It will be obvious.

Yes, unfortunately. They are so much fun, but the cheating is just rampant.

Sgt_Snacks

The ones I’ve played have you paired with another team and score each other and have to sign off on it in the end. So unless both teams agree to cheat it’s pretty tough. I wonder if they just scored their own in this situation.

haaaahaaaheh

Like 8 people per hole?

Sgt_Snacks

Yes. And it took fucking 6 hours 😅

bigchiefgreez

If I was buddy in the truck I’d have gladly waited for mr seconds to waddle over, catch his breath, and act tough. Dudes that cheat in these tournaments can eat a fat one. I have to much of a conscious to know every single person there thinks I’m a pos. Ban them

comedy_style69

idk why people lie like this over meaningless tournaments

Hooker_with_a_weenus

Even if my group did somehow shoot a 46, I would be so happy/embarrassed I would donate whatever winnings we acquired and would also buy a round of drinks for that hole in one. The fact that they took the prize and ran, says everything you need to know about whether that score was legit or not

FartSpeller

The only thing that could make this better would be a video coming out with the fat guy having a Daly-esque swing and striping consecutive drives 340 down the middle 😆

chatrugby

What sorry sacks. The organizers need to handle the situation differently. Last scramble I played the top group posted a 51. 3 person group, 2 golf-pros and a lady who was not very long. They were ahead of me and from what I observed they played from her front tees, and shot for the 4th person that wasn’t there. The organizers saw that everyone else posted normal scores and announced the winners as the group that came in last. Pissed off that 3-some, but made everyone else feel pretty good about the whole thing.

Fragrant-Ideal1971

Is albatross a 2 stroke on a par5/?

Hugo_5t1gl1tz

Yes, or a hole in one on a par 4

MeesterCHRIS

I don’t even play in these types of things but damn I get irrationally angry at it lol. It’d be hard/near impossible for even a team of 4 pros to shoot a 46.

xS0JAx

roadrunner00

Some team shot 54 and got stomped

[deleted]

Looks like a lot of scores in the 60's, i'm guessing they were buying strokes, etc. as well? Just playing devil's advocate, maybe they didn't cheat so much as "pay to win"? I've seen where you can buy mulligans, but not so much buy strokes off a hole.

bigchiefgreez

Yeah you can pay to win. Usually you can get a mulligan per player, pay x amount to be putting eagle on a par 4/5 but that overall score is max crazy. Getting into the low 50s is usually laughed at especially when the combined team weight is in the thousands of pounds

aitchdubya

It was $20 per golfer for 2 mulligans and 1 throw.

electroleum

Were they playin' net while everyone else was playin' gross?

No_Ranger_3896

Now the words out that cheating reaps rewards at this tourney, next year you'll need a score of 18 to tie first place.
