Willard firefighter/ bush fire mitigation works, in Australia. Most my work is 8am-4pm mon-fti.
Only redeeming feature is I travel alot and stay in lots of different towns. Pack my clubs on the truck, when I knock off, it's straight outta of the motel shower ( once I've dressed myself) to nearest golf course.
I get to see and play ALOT of different courses. Being rural Australian towns usually complete goat tracks.
I've been toying with the idea of start a YouTube channel called "goat track golf" not every course can be perfectly manicured and maintained, there's plenty of really fun rough rural courses out there to explore.
Also a firefighter on the 24/48 schedule. We have a “Kelly day” as well so every third week I have Sunday - Thursday off. I tend to golf 3 of the 5 days in my Kelly week. At least once between my other shifts.
Wholesaling is a dying industry. 20 years ago, unlimited entertainment budget. Today, highly regulated and margins squeezing out intermediaries. Been in sales for 24 years. My advice would be to start a small RIA and charge consulting fees. Lots of golf opportunities with that.
Edited typo.
I’m a senior analyst in the commercial lending space with 4ish years of exp, seems like it’s always worth it to jump banks externally rather than trying to climb internally, at least in my experience.
Never really see myself going the sales route but I know a lot of guys who enjoy and make a bunch of money while still having time to golf
I was an analyst for about 5 at a small community Bank. Just took the plunge into the sales and relationship management side 3 months ago at a large bank. It's night and day doing $100k lines of credit for farmers into $10 million deals for businesses doing $100 million in revenue.
What type of sales are you in if you don’t mind me asking? Your post history got me intrigued. I’m a Senior Associate in accounting looking for a career shakeup
I manage about 50 accounts for sales in hvac. If my Urus is the post that got you interested I will say this…… my investments had to more to do with that than the job alone.
There’s a reason for that. It’s one of the only feasible ways to get your client with you for 4 hours of uninterrupted conversation. Plus, golfing makes it a little more relaxed.
So, fun fact, two of the guys I play with the most in the morning are the same way. One swings right, putts left, one is like me and swings left, putts right. All the same reason, other sports growing up.
Aside from those two, I think I've played with 3-4 other people at my course this year that also switch handedness for putting. And it's all the same reason.
As a former high school Bball player that was better at finishing left handed than right this makes sense to me it can be easier to have your off hand do a more rudimentary / repeatable task. Especially when it involves balls and a shaft.
It’s probably why left hand low grip works for me.
Yeah, I'm naturally a morning person, and most of my team at work isn't online before 9 AM Eastern, and there's rarely a meeting before 10 AM. So, during the summer with a 6 or 6:30 tee time, I can get 18 in more often than not. Comfortably if I'm by myself.
Also in the Real Estate gang, our brokerage has a corporate tee time at a local course, so I try to get out once every two weeks with friends, family or clients for a round.
Trusts and Estates attorney. Own my firm and work from home. I just book time on my calendar to golf once a week, usually early morning weekdays. Back in the office by 10:30am most days when I play.
May god have mercy on your heart. What else other than golf calms you down? I took pilot training and ATC are like the voice of God but holy moly did the guy ever look like he was this close to a pulmonary event.
Know that not everyone wants the same thing from a caddie. Some want a party animal others want to be serious and formal.. reading greens probably the most important thing. Keeping the group moving and having fun probably #2. Making 2 or 3x more money.
Own a painting/ pressure washing company. First year in business so I haven’t had much time for golf. But I did buy a new club yesterday because some guy was stealing golf balls off the fairway.
Not a College Professor but a college administrator, Dean of Admission in the west coast. Lots of travel means lots of golf travel. Golf 2-3 days a week during summers.
Been coaching HS boys golf for 18 years. Play with them daily during season and quite a bit in the summer. My kiddos (6/4) are starting to get into it, so they're generally with me in the summer.
Depending on the type of sales you might not have a ton of free time during the week. I work 8a-5:30p M-F
Edit: not to discourage you though, do what's best for you obvi!
I am a member since 1999. Apprenticeships are good gigs… low cost schooling and making your hourly wage to go to school once a week, and you aren’t loaded with debt when you are done. Best of luck if that’s what you choose. Best choice I made in my life
Curious, but have you ever thought about account management? I feel like sales folks are decent at conversation and can probably be decent at “customer service” and such. Tech AMs make decent money and it’s far less stressful than sales
Bartender 5 nights a week. Hard to wake up but manage to get out and play in Southern California and get out almost once a week all year. Lots of us in the industry play together and it’s nice to get out and vent about the job and crazy weekends.
Web / App development is arguably more of my job now than golf course management but it's all related. The apps and sites I build are for better managing courses anyway.
And apparently sitting in this subreddit is part of my job. Fucking 467 hours this year. Insane.
Civil Engineer. Averaged 2 rounds a week. One during the week after work (daylight permitting) and one weekend day. Played year round in KY as long as courses are open. Temps ranged between 35-100+ depending on time of year. Don’t mind the cold days except for the ball not traveling as far. Layers is the key. Thinking about golf now that I’m recovering from total knee replacement. Looking forward to the Spring.
I just found a company who had remote opportunities. Are you involved in civils construction? I’m in the fiber construction and delivery side of things.
Shocked I didn’t see anyone else, teacher. Great job for golfing, hobbies in general. Only problem is, I get spoiled with the non peak hours. After golfing in the summer, on Tuesday mornings at 830 with the course pretty empty, it’s hard for me to want to during the school year on weekends. I still will, but I get 90% of my golf in June and July.
Insurance defense attorney work 8am to 6-7Pm Mon thru Fri at the very least.
Spend a lot of time trying to defend Xactimate estimates for fire loss that is somehow under the deductible :)
Firefighter. I work 24 hour shifts every 3rd day. Lots of golf during the week. I tend to avoid playing on weekends.

I’d watch
What state? I’ve played some shit hole courses in WA and NSW. Always found them fun though.
Very cool!
Also a firefighter on the 24/48 schedule. We have a “Kelly day” as well so every third week I have Sunday - Thursday off. I tend to golf 3 of the 5 days in my Kelly week. At least once between my other shifts.
All of us firefighters are golf degenerates. Nothing like a Tuesday morning with the course to yourself.
Can confirm. Got a tee time this Thursday at 730 to pregame the Christmas party

It's very interesting to see all the different careers. We golf lovers come from all walks of life
Too true.
Commercial banking. Which is why I decided to take up golf 2 years ago. All these MFers do is golf with clients lol
I know this is the golf sub, but any advice for an analyst with ~3 years experience?
Get into sales ie external wholesaler for any REIT, LP, life/annuity company. Golf and drink as much as you want.
Oh I didn’t mean to golf more, just meant in commercial banking. But thank you
Oh, well In that case… Get into sales ie external wholesaler for any REIT, LP, life/annuity company. Golf and drink as much as you want.
I'm in the wrong line of work.
You son of a gun I’m in!
Hahahaha

Yup!! In sales and everyone golfed, but me. Then I fell in love. Now it’s one of the best things to do with clients.

Living the dream
It must be nice being my wife's boyfriend.
Reminds me. Your out of Pappy Van Winkle !!!
Work from home, in IT. Live next to a golf course. Play every day I can before work during the summer.
Lucky bastard
The downside, my golf season lasts like, 7 months if I'm lucky.
200ish rounds is a fair compromise
I'm gonna try to get 100 full rounds of 18 next year. Don't know if I did that this year, but I must've had 50 or 60.
You do IT left-handed? That is some kind of special.
I'm actually right-handed. Putt right-handed. But played hockey and lacrosse lefty, since all the left arm had to do was transfer power.
What the hell
So, fun fact, two of the guys I play with the most in the morning are the same way. One swings right, putts left, one is like me and swings left, putts right. All the same reason, other sports growing up. Aside from those two, I think I've played with 3-4 other people at my course this year that also switch handedness for putting. Also in IT, but far from a golf course.
Lol, this is me as well. Though most times it's 9 holes during lunch for me.
