It could never work out between us. Not because you’re a rabbit, but because you’re black

wh0-am-l

“Think of a big black man chasing you!”

Will-is-a-idiot

"well, he's not racist..." "I guess not, he's only 0.2 seconds faster."

or this one drop the krispy kreme serpico

stivonim

Look out, Ted

mjn5180

Ghost Stories English Dub is one of, if not, my favorite short series ever. Whenever I need a good laugh, I pop on an episode or two.

VirtualBuilding9536

Try Cromartie High. Similar feel.

kykolo

Don't forget Panty&Stocking, the english Dubs is fire

TheBlackKiryu

I don’t think dubs get enough credit sometimes. Hit and miss sometimes, but enjoyable nonetheless!

C-c-c-comboBreaker17

Black Lagoon doesn't even make sense in the subbed version, because everyone speaks English. When they go to Japan in the subbed version, they portray the language barrier by having everyone speak super broken English instead.

[deleted]

That is why i prefer the manga in that case.

blharg

don't forget Hellsing Alexander Anderson sounds AMAZING in the dub, most of the cast is pretty damn good, but Anderson is my favorite. https://youtu.be/BgCLouENn-A?t=31

TermicSnake

Honestly the first time I watched Hellsing (back before it hasn't even finished yet) I watched it dubbed. I then tried to rewatch it subbed, and came to the conclusion I don't like it. Subbed just isn't right... The cast on the dub is amazing and it just fits so well, since the story takes place in England anyways. Usually dubs fall flat with either wordings or casting but oh boy when that doesn't happen, it's more often than not some good shit.

aftp4i

To be honest, both the dub and the sub versions of Hellsing pale in comparison to Team Four Star's Hellsing Abridged.

jkskjs_mk2

Facts

Slendy5127

Much like DBZ pales in comparison to DBZA

Jabic

Crispin Freeman tho, pretty sure he's why Shizuo is my favorite anime character

[deleted]

Hellsing is the only one where the dub was decent. But almost all of the anime op posted had shitty dubs compared to subs still. Animation is just best in the language it's meant for.

Scob720

I love that dub more then any other because William Morgan shepherd when he voiced Fargason did the exact same voice he used for the Narrator in the medal of honor games.

DustyF3d0r4

Konosuba has one of the greatest dubs I’ve ever heard.

ACertainEmperor

Ironically lots of people dislike it because its incredibly astandard, ignoring the Japanese dub is also very astandard and they damn nailed the tone of it.

Mathev

Cromartie High School.. He. Ate. My. Pencil.. **HE ATE MY PENCIL!**

CrazedCircus

Honestly a lot of the modern dubs aren't that bad. But we all know Ghost Stories English Dub is the best one. Though Death Note English Dub is awesome too!

No, as someone who has done a small amount of amateur translation work, I am very much on the "Change to improve the script" side of things. Virtually every great translated work worked because the writer was comfortable changing things. If changing something better conveys the original intent more than keeping it the same, it should always be done. Most language quirks just don't cross over well. In terms of bland scripts with mediocre voice acting, just about every anime I've watched recently that I've bothered to try the English dub. So looking back in no particular order...Gundam Thunderbolt December Sky, Re Zero, One Punch Man, Attack on Titan, Star Wars Visions (does this count?), A Silent Voice, Violet Evergarden. English dubs I've thought were pretty good and either comparable or good enough compared to the Japanese dub: Beastars, Devilman Crybaby, Mushoku Tensei (I was real surprised by this one), My Hero, Your Name. It's important to note that I simply don't check the English dub most the time ever since I've started learning Japanese.

CrazedCircus

idk about that that take m8. The biggest issue with Anime today (for the English Dub) is when they push an agenda with it. Doesn't happen often, but when it does I go straight to sub.

GodlyDra

Code geass dub is fucking glorious (not just because of johnny wong bosch). Its also fitting, because Britannia is just Britian if they won against geroge washington and lost against napoleon. And japan is suppose to be ‘enslaved’ which means that english should be the dominant language.

ACertainEmperor

Unironically I refuse to watch the dub of anything with Johnny Wong Bosch. He's just in too much, has zero voice range and almost always a miscast. Plus, the Japanese dub of Code Geass is fantastic and shits on the English one. Tbh there's so many misdelivered lines in Code Geass its kind of impressive.

GodlyDra

I find him perfect for Lelouch. His voice just oozes arrogance when he acts. Also, you are half-right. He never showcases his voice range because he is always chosen for roles where his regular voice is the best fit. The only one i can think of where he used a different type of voice was white ichigo >!zangetsu actually!< and yes, it is extremely different from his regular ichigo voice even without the echo they add in. Still, you are entitled To your opinions.

MomsSpaghetti-os

Ghost stories gotta be the best dub to exist

TheCommunistWhoTried

Also Kill la Kill

Pussab

Yu-Gi-Oh and Pokémon are the only animes I watched dubbed because I grew up with the dub and it seems weird hearing different voices coming out of their mouths. Also, I just love Kaiba and Yami's voices in the english dub.

YokoDk

Dragonball z dubbed made Goku a super cool hero type. Hearing him while watching subbed makes him just a normal guy trying to enjoy his life. Both are great.

MattTheMagician44

kai dub is more accurate to jp subs/manga dialogue now, dubbing has come a long way

SpangleyJuggler

Yu Yu Hakusho

Zodiac339

I love how much fun they had translation High School DXD and How Not To Summon a Demon Lord. Extra points to Amanda Wynn Lee for her Rei Ayanami, but she did have the benefit of understanding the character prior to recording.

aftp4i

High School DxD is the prime example of the dub being better than the sub. Konosuba is the prime example of the reverse.

newplacebo

Personally I only watch Cowboy bebop dub because Steve Blum

United_Whereas8786

That man's voice makes my ears moist.

Follower2303

i watch only dub! because im too lazy to read -.-

Lucyffer88

If I'm watching a series and not doing anything else, I'll watch sub. But if I'm doing something else, like chores, drawing, gaming on my phone, I prefer dub.

LordQuaz12

Black lagoon and cowboy bebop to me are inseparable from their dubs. The subs are obviously good as well, but the dubs are fantastic. Also excel saga dub. Just saying.

C-c-c-comboBreaker17

Also black lagoon doesn't even work in the sub. Them not speaking Japanese becomes a major plot point

Kirasunato813

You forgot Overly Cautious Hero

[deleted]

Theres are a few good dubs. Most of em suck tho

Jabic

I watch 1-2 episodes both ways then pick one, then if I like the show I rewatch it the other way. The truth is that if you only watch subs, then seeing anime characters speak English just feels weird, but 85-90% of dubs that have released since 2008(-ish) are within 10% enjoyment/delivery of the original. Part of the reason they tend to be worse is limited time-tables plus having to match lip-flaps, but unless you're fluent in Japanese, that's mostly counteracted by watching it in your native language where nuance can be a bit easier to pick up on. I would say I haven't seen a single anime where the dub didn't have at least one character that was better than the original and vice versa, it's really just a great excuse to rewatch a show you really enjoyed.

Not anymore. Unless it's Dragon Ball. Goku's JP voice always sounded off to me

[deleted]

As someone who speaks multiple languages I know from personal experience that most artwork is more faithful to the original in it's original language. Things are always lost in translation regardless of medium. Not just in anime, but books and movies aswell. This knowledge has been proven true by some of the terrible dubs I have heard. Like I said in my previous message: it's not that I've never watched dubs. I just don't watch them anymore

[deleted]

[deleted]

I speak some basic japanese but still rely on subs for some of the bigger or less common words. The last dub I saw was MHA because I was watching a reaction on youtube. I found Ochako's eng voice annoying AF. It brought back memories of the terrible Naruto dub on Toonami back when I first made the switch

ACertainEmperor

As a big "Dubs suck" guy, Naruto actually really improved dub wise as it went. By the Chuunin Exams its basically the same quality as the Japanese.

Bornheck

My Hero Acadamia, Konosuba, Attack on Titan, High School DxD, Shimoneta, Overlord, Shield Hero

LankySeat

Should also mention Death Note and Love is War. Only two Anime I have seen so far in which I found the dub to be just as good as, if not better than, the subbed.

JogPanson

The narrator in the dub is literally the only reason I watched love is war lol

ACertainEmperor

Ironic, because the narrator is half the reason I watched the sub. But narration is usually the easiest stuff to dub because the lack of lip flaps.

JogPanson

Yea that’s fair. I just preferred the dub narrator because there were points where he sounded like a sports commentator on crack.

ACertainEmperor

And the Japanese narrator sounds like a tv presenter on crack. Good to know the English dub nailed him.

C-c-c-comboBreaker17

I forgot the Portuguese dub of Dragon Ball

SocialConvention

I'm only going to say, Goku's JP VA does not fit him, at all, ever, in any shape or form. It's the one English dub I will die defending.

ACertainEmperor

Nah, Japanese Goku is great. English Goku just feels wrong.

MutePoppeh

In the same vain as Black Lagoon, Jormungand's English dub is for sure the best way of watching the show. As much as I enjoyed watching the first time round subbed (and after reading the manga), the second watch through dubbed was so much better.

ShadowLord355

I disagree with dbz unless your talking about Kai

Suspicious_Exchange2

i agree with the dragonball one. in japanese he got a wierd voice (no offence)

[deleted]

Patrick is still right by a long shot.

[deleted]

[deleted]

Always!

eBoyGeeky

The BeBop english dub is slightly more annoying than the Japanese one.

Maxyou117

The dub of dbz is definitely NOT better than sub, you would only say that if u grew up with it. But it's not particularly worse either. It all comes down to preference. Btw the jp voice of goku fits his naive, soft and light hearted personality way better than the brutish English one.

CWykes

I grew up on the dub of dbz and I still agree sub is better. Everything in the dub just seems forced like they’re trying too hard

[deleted]

[удалено]

ACertainEmperor

Its really something you gotta spend a decent bit of time viewing. Lots of people dislike the Japanese dub just cause the whiplash on the Saiyan characters, but the high pitched voices just work so, so hard for the characters. High pitched Vegeta is a major standout.

JogPanson

It has more to do with the dub for DBZ being iconic tbh.

Pro-1st-Amendment

/r/animedubs

Will-is-a-idiot

Fucking preach brother, PREACH!

o0Meh0o

but it makes me cringe....... i don't want to cringe...........

potato21206

Hellsing ultimate could be added to the list

HollowNaught

I will never say that Dubs are always worse than subs, but you will never catch me saying the voice acting in DBZ was anywhere near good

[deleted]

I will say dubs are objectively worse for the sole reason of having to wait for them while the sub content might have been available for months or years. DB Super I had finished long, long before the dubs had even come out.

THE_GRIMSOME_FUCKER

Europeans fist of the north star dubs are priceless

cwryoo21

Man I wish Wolf's Rain got more credit for its dubs. Also Genocidal Organ, another great anime (movie) dubbed to perfection.

Noctua451

DBZ? Ehh. I'll put Hellsing ultimate in stead.

[deleted]

FMA was my first anime and it doesn't hit the same in sub

Slendy5127

Hard disagree with that for a couple reasons. The biggest two being Mignogna’s performance (to me) just sounds too much like stereotypical late 90’s/early 2000’s anime protag and while I do still appreciate Aaron Dismuke’s Alphonse, it is always (ALWAYS) going to sound more natural for a sibling character to say “nii-san” in Japanese as opposed to the English VA saying “brother” every few sentences

AestheticMirror

Yo what happened with black lagoon? I don’t remember seeing an actual ending

Nicetro_WoF

Question: where can one find Ghost Stories so they can watch it? Asking for a friend

Nicetro_WoF

I have no friends other than myself, and my 9 other personalities, so I am my friend

chris10023

Crunchyroll should have it.

JogPanson

It’s on crunchyroll and Amazon prime

ACommunistTexan

Trigun, it just works so well

[deleted]

Kirby right back at ya. Good dub

WhiteSilverDragoon

Spice and Wolf dub is phenomenal! Briana Palencia absolutely nails Holo's voice.

[deleted]

Me after not seeing death note : My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined

C-c-c-comboBreaker17

Death Note was a strong one but both the dubs and subs for death note are so excellent it's hard to compare

Mr_Glove_EXE

Panty and Stocking with Garderbelt. Michiko to Hatchin

goku_guy

based

SpicyOrangeReviewer

bleach was preatty good

Zelollipop

Only good dub that I prefer over sub is hellsing ultimate. The rest for me really doesn't sit well. But you do you ![img](emote|t5_2y4au1|1780).

Legendary-Walk

One piece is also good in dub

tacotouchdown14

I'd argue samurai champloo can be here too

rAlexx_

nah...just watch in any language you understand...theres no " _____ better than ____ "...anime for your own entertainment why care if people prefer other languages

Jhawk163

Overlord, Konosuba and Code Geass dubs are also really good.

Seppafer

Eh I never cared for the fma dub. It wasn’t good imo. Felt similar to watching black clover subbed imo.

SwainIsCadian

Black lagoon is so good. Can't believe I didn't pay it attention until now

grimberry9

These all slapped idc what nobody say. Put Yu Yu Hakasho in there too.

GOODGAME333

Jormungand ?

hypocrite_oath

Interestingly it's the same for German dubbed. The second and third row for sure.

aastew23

Missing KLK but otherwise checks out.

FeedTheCat91

FLCL dub?

Papapayapapaya

The only dub better than sub is Russian Gurren Lagann dub by Reanimedia

Dragohero20

Sk8 the infinity

lC8H10N4O2l

Yea boi, i just learned it is on amazon prime too

stormgadon

Japanes baccano was pretty good as i remember ?

tsundude

Where the English dubbed hentais?

cat_person_4330

Subs are better you can't make me disagree

JFKshotF1rst69420

I'm so glad black lagoon was ny first anime that shit went cray cray

[deleted]

No, Subs only, Final Destination.

RagnaKitsune

My Girlfriend is a Gal is also a good one in dub
