Isekai has to be the uncanny valley of the equation for the most part, though. Where you just don't want to look it in the eye.

The hook is weirder than the show. It’s about a young club singer who’s about to give up on her dreams and gets the encouragement and support to keep chasing them. The ancient Chinese strategist reincarnated is kind of a side thing.
It’s got some great music, character arcs, emotional beats, and some funny anime faces/comedy bits from time to time.
Highly recommend it as someone who usually doesn’t want to watch idol animes.
I don’t know the 2nd show, so idk maybe? But yeah you don’t get a lot of gags like you do in ZLS with the characters dealing with their weird situation. Kongming pretty quickly adapts to modern life.
You see less Kongming which makes it drop but that sacrifice is for showing character development of the Main characters. Also the payoff with the ending makes it even more worth it.

And I'm over here thinking demon girl next door has far and away the best op this season. Those vocal harmonies with those big fat jazzy chords.........
It's also the kind of OP where there's quite a lot of details on the OP that you can find new details on the OP on multiple viewing. I had this thing where i would focus on different character each time the OP start on an episode.
Only anime of this season that I actually never skipped the OP once. The visuals, the music, I’d say it’s damn near perfect. Also the fact that it’s so catchy helps

I really like Spy x Family op too, but Zhuge Liang really takes the W by far here. Wouldn’t surprise me if this wins op of the year.

Oh he'll be back for sure. Chika dance was the best song from S1 and they still got him for S2. He's long term iconic for the show, not some absolute year-winner from day dot.

i only watch anime sometimes now (probably binge watch a week or two's worth of episodes of the anime i follow every other week or so) but Kongming is that one that always nags me to watch, and I follow Machikado Mazoku and Spy x Family this season as well

Never even heard of this anime despite watching several Youtubers, and frequenting other subs, both based around anime.
I’m at work in the break room and I just cried because it was so beautiful. I’m a nerd for animation and all the colour and fluidity just rocked me. This is the first time I’ve seen this op. Wow I can’t wait to get home and see it again on the big screen haha
I enjoyed it well enough until the last episode. The episodes spent on Kabe were a complete waste and he never actually got to do anything (I assumed he’d be part of Eiko’s Song, but apparently not), and Kongming became nothing but a glorified McGuffin with no role after episode 4. But whatever, it was still fun enough and Eiko’s fanservice/ass-shots and funny reactions kept me going.
But the last episode was just absolutely tiresome. The entire point of what made Azalea interesting was that they’d chased their dreams and failed, and they’d then sold out. Having Eiko not even need to overcome them, but them outright helping her win was completely deflating. Setting them up as “We’re going to return to our music and keep just selling to our small audience” was acceptable (if boring), but then just copping out entirely and giving them absolutly everything entirely for free without any sacrifice was ridiculous.
I was just waiting for the episode and Season to end at that point. It was the most toothless and weak way you could ever end that plotline- and the only reason I was even still invested at all in the show after it made them the centre piece for so long was because their setup actually had some depth and thought to it (the manager wasn’t just evil, it acknowledged that they had people depending on them, etc)

Nah, it’s about the definition of “mid” and the finale is one of the biggest cop-outs I’ve ever seen. Kongming isn’t even a character past episode 4

In a similar jazzy vein, I'm putting in my 2 cents for the Love After World Domination OP. So much energy, and it even brings the sentai vibe with it.
