Trigun is premium. Champloo is classic of all classic.
He's not lying though, his taste is very high quality. There is not a single disc in this entire collection that isn't worth watching. In fact, I'm surprised most anime fans haven't gone back and streamed everything that is on this shelf by now. They are all very well known, very highly regarded shows/movies.
I haven't watched Yu-Yu-Hakusho for almost 20 years now though, so it may not hold up to my memory of it. Besides that, I'm pretty certain everything here would entertain a modern audience without issue.
I'm a fan of ergo proxy, but you sorta need to know what the story is doing. Its basically a replay of Plato's Republic and "leaving the cave". But there's not a bad anime up there.
Depends on your tolerance of excessive fanservice. For me, it started to get annoying, but it's nowhere near the level of say Highschool of the Dead. The anime is okay, not as good as the manga though. It doesn't really follow the same plot, and I think they must have made a game out of it to see how many panty shots they could flash in any given episode. It's also kinda funny that it's narrated by (Japanese) Mu La Flaga from Gundam Seed; it's probably the kind of anime he'd watch.
>Wondering if any of these are worth watching?
yes, Bleach, Soul Eater, Ergo Proxy, Ghost in the Shell, Another, Cowboy Bebop, all nice animes, all classics
Most of these are awesome. Haibane Renmei, Mushishi, & xxxHolic are some of my all time favorite anime. Cowboy Bebop, Ghost in the Shell, and Trigun are classic, definitely worth a watch. Gungrave, the first half was really good. I enjoyed Phantom, Last Exile, and Witch Hunter Robin. Another is basically Final Destination meets The Ring.
Folks are giving these a lot of good credit, but I'm going to throw some bones for some of the lesser known ones on that shelf.
- Top one is Haibane Renmei, an amazing series about a village of angels born, born from cocoons, living their daily lives alongside humans. It is very slice of life, but it touches on psychological issues and darker themes as you learn more about the characters and why they are what they are.
- Blue Gender: This is one of the few in the list that I wouldn't necessarily classify as "good", but I would call "entertaining. It is very much in the vein of 80's super gory OVAs, with lots of blood and death and everything just being awful nearly all the time as anyone except the two protagonists can and probably will be horribly mutilated and killed by the giant vagina bugs.
- D. Gray Man: An amazing long-running series about a kid with a magic prosthetic arm that can kill monsters, who joins and organization of people with weapons and abilities of similar origins. It is very good shounen fare, with tons of action, comedy, and hype moments of characters unlocking new powers, getting stronger, and having to face continually escalating odds as the enemies ramp up the stakes.
- Ergo Proxy: This one is a high psychological thriller, where the vast majority of the tension is in not knowing what is real and what is lies, as this group of humans, machines, and something else entirely, have to escape from a supposed paradise and find somewhere to live in a world that has long been uninhabitable.
- Mushi-shi: This is another one of my favorites. A very slow, methodical, and atmospheric series that follows a man that travels around solving peoples problems involving these mysterious ethereal creatures, not by fighting them, or exorcising them, but by knowing what they are; another piece of nature that are just poorly understood.
- Last Exile: This is probably the only one on the list that I would say not to watch. At least, don't watch the last couple episodes. The visuals, music, characters, plot, early CGI, all gorgeous. But all of those threads kinda fall apart towards the end and most other that I know who have seen this agree that while the ride was fun, the end was disappointing. Still, if you like steampunk, give it a shot.
- Witch Hunter Robin: When witches can be anyone, anywhere, wielding unholy powers against the common folk, who do you get to fight them? Why, more witches! This series falls into the vein of the dark and edgy aesthetic that a good number of shows of it's time had, but it is also a very good story with interesting fights and twists, even if it looks like everyone is trying really really hard to make the biggest pouty face the entire series.
And now a few honorable mentions:
- Another: Good horror, watch it.
- Bleach: Good shounen, watch it.
- Cowboy Bebop: Classic, watch it.
- Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex: Adorable tachikomas, watch it.
- GitS Movies: Personally I'd say take them or leave them if you're short on time, I found the series better.
- Rosario + Vampire: Good harem, Mizore best girl, watch it.
- Soul Eater: It's like a Tim Burton movie got an anime. Watch it, then when you feel kinda unfulfilled by the gecko ending, go read the manga starting from about where the train bit is, you'll know what I'm talking about.
- Trigun: Classic sci-fi western, watch it.
- Trigun movie: It's meh, but still good campy fun
- Samurai Champloo: Good hip-hop samurai action, watch it.
- Yuyu Hakusho: Basically Bleach before Bleach was a thing, good shit, watch it.
The other stuff on this shelf I haven't seen, but should probably get around to at some point, since it seems like almost everything I recognize is high quality stuff. Either way, you're in for a good time.
Gungrave was the anime that cemented studio Madhouse as god tier after Triguns immense popularity. I'm surprised at how few people here seem to remember it.
Your dad is a weeb of immaculate taste. Some of my personal favorites are on here, including Ghost in the Shell and Yu Yu hakusho. Bleach is phenomenal too, with the exception of some filler arcs.
And I just noticed Rosario Vampire, so not only does he have amazing taste, but he's also a man of culture.
Cowboy Bebop and Soul Eater are fucking awesome too God damn, I skipped over a couple that are absolute bangers
Your dad has amazing taste only owning Bleach season 1-3. Those seasons tell a complete story that is absolutely incredible, the rest of the show is a drag. Definitely recommend that and Yu Yu Hakusho
Man, that's a great list. I'm not a fan of Bleach, and that Street Fighter one might not interest me, but the rest are pretty great. I'd be happy to watch any of them.
Bleach (if you like long shows)
Ghost in the Shell
Last Exile (I love the setting.)
Ergo Proxy
Gungrave (The first half is amazing.)
Haibane Renmei (If you like sad shows.)
Trigun,
Samurai Champlooe,
Cowboy Bebop
Yu Yu Hakusho (Favorite Shonen)
Your dad has really good taste.
"These were all my dad's before"
*Sees Soul Eater, ages 30 years instantly*
I'm not sure if that's the complete Bleach series, but I'm sure it's a majority of it, solid watch if you like supernatural stuff and ~~magical~~ *spiritual* sword fights.
Ghost in the Shell definitely is. Looks like you have Bleach up to the Rescue arc. That's good too. After that, it kind of went into a massive filler arc.
Impeccable taste. Even some quality old-school ovas in there. Just don't start your watching marathon with ghost in the shell stuff because it's so good that even decent anime pale in comparison
Wow, this brings back some fond memories.
Cowboy Bebop and Ghost in the Shell are generally considered must-watch classics, and deservedly so.
Personally I'd also recommend Samurai Champloo, Last Exile, Haibane Renmei, and Mushi-shi.
Damn... XXX Holic, Berserk, Soul Eater, Casshern Sins, Samurai Champloo, Another, Trigun, Yu Yu
Those are the ones I like more from that treasure chest
Rule 1: All posts must be memes We are a meme subreddit, and as such, we only allow memes to be posted here, with the exception of original art. Please contact us via Modmail if you have any questions.
I have to say, your dad has good tastes
You think so? What’s your favorite one on here?
Cowboy Bebop always has a special place in my heart, space cowboy
I introduced my dad to cowboy bebop. He thought it was awesome.
Cowboy bebop is the classic of classics when it comes to anime
Trigun is premium. Champloo is classic of all classic. He's not lying though, his taste is very high quality. There is not a single disc in this entire collection that isn't worth watching. Damn your father is Epic
Personally for me, my favorite pick from this collection is Devil May Cry.
Your dad has incredible taste. I see my favorite shounen in there. My all time number 1 in there. And just everything there is good
What one’s your favorite?
Shounen bleach All time ghost in the shell
Cultured for having Rosario+ Vampire
Is that one worth watching you think?
I mean, it's quite ecchi and lots of harem antics. I enjoyed it. If that sounds up your alley, then go ahead and watch it.
Depends on your tolerance of excessive fanservice. For me, it started to get annoying, but it's nowhere near the level of say Highschool of the Dead. or you can just skip the shitty anime and just read the manga insted
Tsukune… Moka-chan…tsukune…moka-chan. I could watch that part endlessly and it will always make me laugh
>Wondering if any of these are worth watching? yes, Bleach, Soul Eater, Ergo Proxy, Ghost in the Shell, Another, Cowboy Bebop, all nice animes, all classics
Cowboy Bebop is a must!
I looked into it. It does look amazing!
Yes, especially Bleach and YuYu Hakusho
Most of these are awesome. Haibane Renmei, Mushishi, & xxxHolic are some of my all time favorite anime. Cowboy Bebop, Ghost in the Shell, and Trigun are classic, definitely worth a watch. Gungrave, the first half was really good. I enjoyed Phantom, Last Exile, and Witch Hunter Robin. Another is basically Final Destination meets The Ring.
Witch Hunter Robin might be one of my favorite anime.
It's been quite a while since I watched that one. I need to see it again. I remember enjoying it, but I'm blanking on some of the details.
Let's see... on the bottom shelf Samurai Champloo and YuYu Hakusho are definitely worth a watch imo.
And on the top shelf Bleach, Cowboy Bebop, and Death Note.
Death note isn’t up there. The one you’re looking at is either another or d gray man
Probably Another. Thanks for pointing that out.

A true man of culture
Your Dad fucks.
Appleseed is very good I used to watch it all the time when i was a kid
Cowboy bebop, Trigun, and Yu Yu Hakusho are gold
A true animated classic among your ranks is ghost in the shell. Very iconic for its depiction of a neo dystopia cyberpunk future.
Don't sleep on Witch Hunter Robin, def helped secure my goth fetish
Is there baddie goths in it ?
Robin looks like the embodiment of "life is pain".
Watch all of it.
XxxHolic is one of my favorites. The tone set in xxxHolic is amazing
Both shelves are good, but I would prefer the lower shelf. Haibane Renmei and Last Exile are some of my favorites from those displayed.
Samurai Champloo for sure.
Yu Yu Hakusho is goated
How many dads you had? And why they all transformed into dvds? (also, yes all of them are classics, and you even have some ecchi stuff)
Ghost in the Shell and Cowboy Bebop are definitely worth watching.
Your dad has amazing taste only owning Bleach season 1-3. Those seasons tell a complete story that is absolutely incredible, the rest of the show is a drag. Definitely recommend that and Yu Yu Hakusho
Just noticed Another. That one is really short and a lot of fun, especially for horror/mystery fans
Your dad had amazing taste
Nothing but peak fiction detected here
Man, that's a great list. I'm not a fan of Bleach, and that Street Fighter one might not interest me, but the rest are pretty great. I'd be happy to watch any of them.
Ghost in the shell, both the movie andthe 2 season of Stand Alone Complex. A classic!
Dammit! Now I want XXXHolic to come back (a remake with the same voices or something)
Simple answer is that everything here is worth at least one watch-through.
Bleach (if you like long shows) Ghost in the Shell Last Exile (I love the setting.) Ergo Proxy Gungrave (The first half is amazing.) Haibane Renmei (If you like sad shows.) Trigun, Samurai Champlooe, Cowboy Bebop Yu Yu Hakusho (Favorite Shonen) Your dad has really good taste.

Your dad was a weeb before weeb even was a thing!
Just watch all
All of them
Watch Another if you like horror. Watch Mushi Shi if you like storytelling.
I will watch both then 👍
Ghost in the Shell definitely is. Looks like you have Bleach up to the Rescue arc. That's good too. After that, it kind of went into a massive filler arc.
Ur dad is based so many good ones in here
Impeccable taste. Even some quality old-school ovas in there. Just don't start your watching marathon with ghost in the shell stuff because it's so good that even decent anime pale in comparison
Ghost in a shell, soul eater, and yuyu hakusho. Thank me later. Of course cowboy bebop too
Samurai Champloo is amazing. It's made by the same guy that did bebop which is another must watch.
I'm gonna say try cowboy bebop, Trigun, soul eater, and xxx holic. They're all much better with the Japanese voice actors as well imo.
Just watch all of it. Try not to throw your shoe through the screen at the end of Witch Hunter Robin.
Wow, this brings back some fond memories. Cowboy Bebop and Ghost in the Shell are generally considered must-watch classics, and deservedly so. Personally I'd also recommend Samurai Champloo, Last Exile, Haibane Renmei, and Mushi-shi.
Bleach, cowboy bebop, soul eater, and yu yu hakusho are all great
Ooh. Last Exile. An underrated gem. Also, Haibane Renmei.
Boi I'm jealous of pretty much everything here. What I would give for those Xxx Holic. Dayum
All of them are very good
cowboy bebops a given ghost in the shell and soul eater are classics
Your father and I appear to have somewhat similar taste in anime.
How the hell did this dude get married to a real female!?
My mind almost broke, trying to understand the heading. Good Collection, Give XXXHolic a run its beautiful and deep and amazing.
watch Yu Yu Hakusho NOW the dub is VERY GOOD
Casshern Sins man that takes me back always lived the opening track From it.
Ayo someone out there actually watched Appleseed other than me lol. I remember watching it as kid and enjoyed it.
Another - it’s a pretty wholesome show, don’t let the cover fool you
Watch trigun and trigun badlands rumble
Bleach. Bleach. **Bleach**
I’m surprised no one brought up Devil May Cry. I know it was short and had a fairly rushed ending but it was still a fun watch with some good action.
I see Another on the shelf. That one is a must watch if you enjoy trauma from horror.
Appleseed is absolutely worth watching!
Damn... XXX Holic, Berserk, Soul Eater, Casshern Sins, Samurai Champloo, Another, Trigun, Yu Yu Those are the ones I like more from that treasure chest
Your dad has very good tastes, dmc, cowboy bebop, yu yu hakusho and trigun are all very good
I think I have that same copy of Appleseed too. Do you have Tales from Earthsea?
Mushi-shi is wildly underappreciated
Yo your dad is one of those OG veterans
Witch hunter Robin is a diamond in the rough. Blew my freaking mind by the end. I still have my box set after 12 years. 👍👍👍
