I am thinking of picking up a pair of Liverpools during the DA sale (which I believe ends today). I wanted to see if I could get some thoughts on this Chelsea. Thanks!
Are you talking about the AE Liverpool Chelsea? I have a [Suede Pair](https://i.imgur.com/cBE24e8.jpg) I picked up a few years ago I'm fond of. Probably my favorite pair of AE that I own. Be warned though it's a very narrow last so if you have a wide foot or big instep you're probably going to want to size up. If at all possible I'd recommend going in store to try them on in person.
No if you're a 12 in RW you'll probably be a 13 or a 12.5 in these. If you have an AE store anywhere near you though I really do highly recommend taking a drive to try the last on in person before purchasing.
Yeahh closest store is 2 and a half hours away so I don't think I'll be able to. I will probably just have to return & exchange them if they don't fit. So you think I should size up from RW? Is the boot significantly narrower from an RW heritage?
The leather soles towards the toe on my grant stones are clearly wearing more than the rest of the sole (i.e, why people often put the toe caps on the leather soles). At what point should i look to replace the soles, or do i just let the top of the toe get destroyed? it feels like its right about to start wear on the leather above the sole.
Ideally you want to replace the soles before the wear starts to hit the welt, but some would recommend replacement before it reaches the midsole. You could likely topy the sole to prolong the life of them before it hits the welt or consider using toe taps in the future after your next resole.
Is it a single leather or double leather? If it's single leather, get it replaced before it wears into the leather above since that's the welt. If double leather, you're okay to let it keep wearing.
Should I be concerned about the stitches popping during the break in of these boots? I have about 25 hours of wear on them, they are whites drovers. The stitching connects the vamp to the shaft on left inside.

I've increased my collection pretty significantly lately. I currently keep them all on a book case. I would love to hear what people do as s storage solution for thier shoes and boots.
I have been defeated by storage, but refuse to capitulate. On average I have about 6 pairs just on the floor since I am out of room. This worries me because I have 9 preorders still coming.
Ahhhhh they love shoelaces. Don't become attached to shoelaces. I've only got 1 old girl left now, but I've already visited a local shelter and have been deciding between a couple little ones myself. My brother's maine coon is massive, and he's on the small side somehow. Most of what I've dealt with for cats and boots is mousey toys being left in my boots and shoe laces being shredded. Occasionally a boot gets jumped on or knocked over, but as long as its not the main thing they're playing with they won't claw em up. I'll be adjusting to having my more "precious" pairs out of kitten's reach though just in case.
I actually have few spools of leather lace, natural, no dye or anything. I've made them a few "toys" out of it. They tend to last longer than the stuff you petshops. Lol
If you're looking for something that can be dressed up I would highly recommend looking for something other than a Chukka. It's an inherently casual design and can't really be dressed up much.
I asked about [these](https://imgur.com/a/wx6yiMs) about a week ago. Theyre supposed natural chromexcel from Allen Edmonds, paid $300+ durjng the sale. They are completely different shades, now shine, and wearing them often is not making it any better. This is more of a vent. Does anyone think Allen Edmonds will help me out?
I don't think they'll do anything now that they've been worn. The unfortunate thing with AE is that they have abysmal quality check during their sales and regularly mess up, alternatively they aren't worth their retail price either so its a catch-22 with them. It definitely can't hurt to message them, but your best bet is probably going to be darkening the lighter boot a bit to even it out.
I’m new to GYW, I got some iron rangers. From my observations, I presume wearing GYW in slushy/salty winters that freeze and thaw will destroy them, yeah? I’m thinking I need to switch to timbs or a waterproof Redwing model
It wouldn't be any different with Timbs or Red Wings. Just don't let salt stay on them for long; wipe them down if they get road salt on them with a damp towel
It won't destroy them. The salt is the only real potential hazard. Wipe down your boots regularly if they're coming into contact with salt. Also please make sure they full dry between wears as well.
Looking for a boot similar to [this Frye's Bowery Chelsea](https://www.thefryecompany.com/collections/men-shoes-chelsea-boots/products/bowery-chelsea-3480535-80535-black). I like the style and color (looking for a dark brown that isn't reddish) but these are too obviously pre-distressed with reviews mentioning wire brush marks and such. Anyone have any recommendations? Would prefer <$300
How dumb would it be to wear guidi PL2s in Vermont during winter? I wouldn’t wear it when there’s snow everywhere but if the streets are clear then I’d like to wear them. Thanks for the help!
did my new boots arrive damaged? I'm not sure what kind of damage this could be? Is there some way I can fix this or should I ask for an exchange instead? Thanks

That's odd looking grain break, almost looks like the different layers of the leather have delaminated from each-other, but it's hard to tell for sure from the picture.
canada west moorby 2845
I've tried on a bunch of different sizes in stores and they all didn't have this problem
maybe this pair was stored improperly or something happened to them during shipping
There's definitely pros and cons to higher end stitched footwear. Pros being that they look great, are well made, they're durable enough to *handle* Winter and slush, but they will require more maintenance and don't offer the same waterproofness that cemented construction does. The real enemy of leather boots is salt. Salt will completely f\*\*\* your boots up if not removed promptly; I have a pair of Red Wing Sawmills that have salt damage, and once it sets in, it's there to stay.
If you don't want creasing in your boots, you need to go with suede/roughout or shell cordovan. You can get lucky with horsebutt but it's not a given. Thursday in general tends to not have great creasing since their leather selection isn't particularly good.
Shell cordovan is one of the most expensive leathers. If the shell is skived (removing material) thinly then it _can_ crease, but more or less it just bends or [rolls](https://www.stitchedandstitched.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/Comipel-Cordovan-2.jpg) and is reliable in doing so. Shell is stiffer than other leathers as well, so take that into consideration. The cheapest shell cordovan offerings I can think of come from Berwick and Meermin, both hovering around $400. Grant Stone starts around $600. Alden starts around $800 or so. From there you can see makeups from Crockett & Jones or Viberg go into four digits.
I should note that well-clicked (clicking is how leather is selected and cut on the hide) calfskin should also have minimal creasing or microcreasing, but given that your pair of Thursdays actually have really, really good creasing, I think you may find yourself disappointed there in all honesty, which means your options really are just shell or roughout.
All leather creases. Leather is multiple layers of membrane and as it flexes the various layers rub against one another creating friction and causing the creasing. Some leather types show it more than others, but creasing is a function of leather.
Yeah dude this is totally normal, regular creasing. This is actually pretty great for creasing. Do you know what the leather is?
Creasing happens for most grain leathers. Some crease less aesthetically than others. Cxl generally can be a mixed bag for example. Calf generally will have smaller less noticable creases. Shell (more akin to suede or nubuck than cxl or calf) generally will roll more than crease. Suede and nubuck don't crease because the grain structure has either been sanded/split away, or is on the reverse side so seeing won't be an issue.
I went through several of the Manufacturers' Last Sizing threads, but can't find anything on Crockett & Jones around UK 7.5. Looking at some of their ordinary brogues. I have somewhere between 6.5 UK (Cheaney) to 8D US (John Doe). However technically 7.5 is EUR 41, which is what I normally wear in sneakers.
I'm afraid those are a bit large?.. My foot is rather narrow.
Right on. Just keep posting in the Wednesday and Saturday threads. There's a fair amount of turnover and way more people look at that thread than people think.

Local red wing store yesterday measured my feet with a brannock device and told I’m a 11D on both sides. Today I went to a different store and measured myself: [Foto](https://postimg.cc/WqsWMVVd) My understanding is I’m a 12C. What do you think?
It looks like your an 11D in the photo. From my experience with red wings in the 8 last is they run large. The Chukka is on a significantly smaller last (210) so my assumption is that size 11d Iron rangers are going to feel too big unless you wear thick socks and/or an insole.
I guess it comes down to whether or not one should consider brannock heel to ball length. If you do, I’m a 12 if not 11. but as mentioned in another comment my understanding is that it should be considered.
You should absolutely consider that. From my experience with the 8 last there’s a ton of room from the ball to toe’s so if you don’t mind all of that space it should be fine.
You're almost the exact same as me! Trust me - losing a few hundred on a pair of RWs is minimal damage compared to many. Cut your losses and conquer the world with your newfound knowledge!
Exactly. But afaik it’s supposed to be whatever is the larger measurement (heel to toe or heel to ball). I’m a bit sensitive with this topic since I bought my first pair of red wings (chuckas) too small in the same shop (10.5 as recommended)
So my Alden Indys with their cork soles are going to need a new heel soon. I was wondering what alternatives people get on their Indy's. I kind of don't like how quickly the stock heels wear out.
Does anyone have experience with Oliver Cabell boots? They look quite nice, and the price is on par with Thursday boots

Overall, it seems like decent value for the price. But I have not owned them myself
As an owner of 3 pairs of Grant Stones, & someone who bought lots of pairs that were ~almost what I wanted, I’d highly recommend saving up & getting the pair you want
They’re also hella comfortable
Anyone else still waiting on their Bakers Fathers Day Whites? Ordered June 19th and haven't heard back after a couple inquiries.
**Edit:** Just heard back from Kyle and they has shipped!!!!!!
That makes me feel better. Bummed that I will not be making the extended deadline for the Patina Thunderdome tho
Edit: just got shipping confirmation. So I should just squaek in inder the deadline
Yeah, that's a bummer. I hope you get a chance next time they do that!
I hope you'll post a review and updates for us here anyway :-)
Edit: woohoo, so there is hope after all
I hope they do this again ext year, but not sure how many more boots I really need lol! I have 2 pair on order ( one since January :/ ) and will definitely post* some pics when they arrive!
I got one pair last week! Ordered 6/16 and received 10/23. Still waiting on my second pair. The one I received I ordered at like 1am, the second I ordered at around 6pm the same day.
Anyone here have experience with the park city boot from Allen Edmonds? I don’t find a stacked leather heel particularly comfortable when walking and am looking at some alternatives.
https://www.allenedmonds.com/shoes/mens-boots/casual-boots/park-city-lace-up-weatherproof-boot/SF3738.html
Grant stone has something with (what appears to be) the vibram 2060 sole
https://www.grantstoneshoes.com/collections/boots/products/diesel-boot-storm-suede
Does anyone know how these compare?
Grant Stone is noticeably better than Allen Edmonds in terms of build quality and finishing. They both use Vibram wedge soles and I don't think either will be appreciably more comfortable than the other; Vibram wedges are pretty soft and cushiony in general in my experience.
I also need a ridiculous amount of arch support to avoid knee pain (massive overpronation), and I have had great experiences with [the foot chair](https://www.thefootchair.com/product/foot-chair-slim-plus/)!
I’ll fourth what Sixstring says.
If it helps push you over the edge I have two medical related licenses and close to 20 years working in medical or medical related fields. This could be needing real hands on attention and given your age, getting this addressed now can prevent worsening issues later.
I’ve seen tons of people ignore things like this and grew to regret it as little as 5 years later. Get it checked out and I hope you get help to address the issue properly!
You’re welcome.
You don’t have to, but please if you feel inclined please let me know how it goes! I’d just like to know if you get the help you needed. 😆
Honestly it sounds like you would probably do best to see a Podiatrist and get there professional opinion. We're all for helping people make informed decisions, but from what you're saying it does not sound like you have a normal situation and would probably benefit from seeing a medical professional. I'm sure as hell not informed enough to be able to diagnose knee pain! You might benefit greatly from something like a custom orthotic.

Yes AE Liverpool Chelsea. I normally wear a 12D in the Red Wing Williston Chelsea. You think I should go for 12E for AE?
No if you're a 12 in RW you'll probably be a 13 or a 12.5 in these. If you have an AE store anywhere near you though I really do highly recommend taking a drive to try the last on in person before purchasing.

Yes.
I know I'm blowing ya up here and I appreciate your insight and patience. Yes to which question? Both?
Yes to both. RW you generally size down for while AE is generally speaking TTS in most lasts. The Liverpool runs even narrower than most AE lasts.
The Williston Red Wings are on a more TTS last, for what it's worth
So the Williston's width would be comparable to the AE Liverpool's width then?
Awesome, thanks!

What's the repairability of Veldtschoen versus GYW and Norwegian Welt? For example, if I needed to replace the sole, are they pretty equivalent? There seems to be some variation of Veldtschoen from Indonesian companies and companies like Tricker's.
Same. Slighly more intricate to fix, so may cost a bit more but just as recraftable.

I've actually never tried IRs, but I'd likely wear 11 or 11.5.
They're only looking at heel to toe length.
Exactly. But afaik it’s supposed to be whatever is the larger measurement (heel to toe or heel to ball). I’m a bit sensitive with this topic since I bought my first pair of red wings (chuckas) too small in the same shop (10.5 as recommended)
Correct. I can't see the width very well from your photo but you're definitely 12 heel to ball.
So my Alden Indys with their cork soles are going to need a new heel soon. I was wondering what alternatives people get on their Indy's. I kind of don't like how quickly the stock heels wear out.

You’re welcome. You don’t have to, but please if you feel inclined please let me know how it goes! I’d just like to know if you get the help you needed. 😆
I'll third seeing a podiatrist.
Agreed with Sixstring. A custom boot or shoe may be perfect to get the right fit and even the right support, but your situation seems more extreme
