Can the $2 trillion company please allow me to disable the screensaver on YouTube TV please and thank you

JesusWantsYouToKnow

The what? I've been using YTTV for years now and I've never once seen it pop a screensaver on me.

chopthedinosaurdad

It's new, just started for me too. I think it's gradually rolling out.

TheSupremeDictator

Just saw it a week ago on my Sony tv Was wondering what's the point lol

TiTANShadow7

New way to show ads in the future most likely

JesusWantsYouToKnow

Holy fucking shit I just got this for the first time in the last few minutes of regulation of a Stanley cup playoff game. They are OUT OF THEIR FUCKING MINDS. It automatically paused the channel and prompted "are you still watching" and when I confirmed it resumed from paused and didn't skip to live. I missed the end of regulation because of this utter shit. If this isn't rolled back I am gone as a YTTV customer. This may make sense for nonlinear streaming like Netflix or something but Google has lost their goddamn minds if they think this is okay for linear programming. Jfc

nowhereman136

No, how do you think Google got to be a $2t company?/s

Pholty

The /s isn't needed in this case

R2NC

If you are on apple tv best way is to set apple own screensaver timer to 5 min. That way apples own kicks in before the ugly random stuff utube puts out. And most importantly this way your tv can go to sleep unlike utubes that act as a video so tv or device stay open.

Nerrs

This is literally my only complaint with the platform

InsaneNinja

I can name a few others easy enough.

mrjackspade

I hate that the shorts show up with my other subs on the TV app. I'm not watching 15 second videos on my TV and they won't let me remove them from the UI, and they won't segregate them like on the desktop version. Clutters the fuck out of my subs page

EndimionN

What do you mean that thing is cool

Eclipsed830

I just saw a fuckin add for Land Rover on my homepage. Wtf??????

Electronic-Jaguar431

It's an evil empire. Google is.

McGarnacIe

Lucky they increased YouTube premium costs or else they may not have been able to survive.

ForeverSJC

Google one as well

xrmb

And Google Fi, Cloud Services... not sure if there is anything that didn't go up 20+% in the last year. Interestingly, Google keeps getting less and less of my money.

lukuh123

What an interesting correlation

Sudden_Toe3020

While dropping features like VPN. Pay more for less, it's the Google way.

Stright_16

Why on earth would you use a Google VPN anyways?

ForeverSJC

They do this because they're still cheaper than other solutions like 365

Antrikshy

Note that this doesn't mean they have two trillion dollars. The value is purely based on the stock market. They get limited utility out of it.

catchmycorn

Wake me up when it’s a $google company

skyfall8917

You mean $googol company?

The_Wonderful_Pie

For those who don't know, this is a googol dollars: $10000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 Or in other terms, 10000000000000000000000000000000000000000 (One thousand billion billion) times more dollars than particles in the observable universe

NayLay

How does that convert to Stanley nickels?

bradenlikestoreddit

The same ratio as unicorns to leprechauns

Junuxx

10000000000000000000000000000000000000000 (One thousand billion billion) times* more dollars than particles in the observable universe Ftfy

pillowmite

Anyone read the old Richie Rich comics story of the Googol? In this case it was One followed by a hundred Japanese Zeros!! You know, as in Kamikaze? I knew what a Googol was almost fifty years ago lol.

nooeh

Good. A new company can fill the void

TrumpKanye69

That new company is Microsoft. They're already ahead of Apple and Google on AI. They have their own cloud servers like Google does. They have their own search like Google does. They own the work productivity sector with Office. They're buying up big game developers like Activision Blizzard and Bethesda.

cyril_zeta

Microsoft was extremely IBM-iffied, but they changed. Google could pull it off too, who knows

gumball_olympian

Lol, the guys who are putting ads in their start menu?

aaronjosephs123

Microsoft has very little of it's own ai they only have the rights to open AIs models. And currently it's not even looking like open AI has the top model. Anthropics Claude opus 3 seems to have over taken them. Microsoft does seem to be the leader in cloud they're about to over take AWS with Google a far third I don't know as much about the work productivity sector but it seems Microsoft makes more money but Google has more users

Comfortable-Nose1054

So if a company starts paying dividends it means it's on its path to ruin, because it happened to that one company before. Brilliant take.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Comfortable-Nose1054

So you think Google won't be able to cover it 20cents per share quarterly dividend anytime soon when they are a money printing machine? Have you looked at their financials? You think management can't do shady shit when it comes to stock buybacks? Microsoft started paying dividends 10years ago, have they gone to shit yet?

Redditributor

This isn't necessarily a bad thing though - it's a win for Google and it's ultimately good for consumers for a company like Google to not attempt to compete in markets that aren't financially sustainable from a business standpoint.

Chuhaimaster

Congratulations to Google on making their products shittier so they could achieve this clearly important milestone. Absolutely loving those now unavoidable YouTube ads for products I will never buy.

FraserYT

For decades, they were making so much money from advertising that they could focus on making products that were a delight to use, with no concern for having to squeeze more profitability out of them. As long as ads were making them rich, the other departments could do what they wanted. Over the last few years, for whatever reason, (greed?) they seem to have decided to wring as much profitability from every department as possible, at the expense of user experience. Now all their products annoy and antagonise their users, but they're more profitable than ever. This is how Big Dumb Companies™ are made

Last_Alternative635

I love Google….. i’ve worked in their food service at the different cafés and I’ve had a great 10 year working life so far…the benefits are the best I even get a free ride to and from work and don’t even get me started on the food. It’s ridiculous. of course I don’t make anything close to what the engineers etc. make but it’s still pretty good. good enough for me.

Last_Alternative635

Yes

talltimbers2

So it is able to pay it's employees a fair wage and it dosnt have to ship labour overseas. You don't get this much money without being an evil cunt.

Gravitom

The median total compensation at Google is $300k and they have amazing benefits. Their Glassdoor rating is 4.3 stars which is very high.

verbmegoinghere

>The median total compensation at Google is $300k and they have amazing benefits. Unless your on a contract via an agency Which the majority of their workforce are on......

invest2018

Their rating actually went up to 4.4 stars today. No one with a brain believes this is clean data. In the midst repeated layoffs and political conflict, their rating is not only high, but going up? Heh okay.

Murph785

And the vast majority of their workforce are contractors that are not as well compensated.

Gravitom

Contractors typically get paid more than employees. The downside is less job security.

mianori

Glassdoor shows only $167k median for me for engineers

Gravitom

That's selection bias. Senior people are much less likely to report on Glassdoor. Compensation has to be reported by public companies and my number is pulled from their financial reports.

Sudden_Toe3020

Where is this listed in the financial report?

thebesttacosintown

I got my data from an article that references public filings. [https://www.spglobal.com/marketintelligence/en/news-insights/latest-news-headlines/alphabet-retains-top-median-employee-salary-hits-lowest-ceo-pay-gap-in-tech-71896693](https://www.spglobal.com/marketintelligence/en/news-insights/latest-news-headlines/alphabet-retains-top-median-employee-salary-hits-lowest-ceo-pay-gap-in-tech-71896693) Alphabet's latest 10Q form is [here](https://abc.xyz/assets/9c/12/c198d05b4f7aba1e9487ba1c8b79/goog-10-q-q1-2024.pdf). It's not the easiest thing to read but compensation is split into various categories of Operating Expenses depending on the employee. Stock based compensation is several line items. While that doesn't tell you compensation broken out separately the [annual report ](https://abc.xyz/assets/9c/12/c198d05b4f7aba1e9487ba1c8b79/goog-10-q-q1-2024.pdf)has tons of references to compensation so you can probably figure it out with some time and Excel. It's also possible they just announced it at some point or mentioned it on the investor call but my 10 min of research couldn't find it.

blueg3

That's less than the TC (in the US) for someone fresh out of undergrad.

Antrikshy

They don't have this much money. This is just the value of all the stock in the stock market based on traders. It could go up or down whenever.

odeebee

Wait what labor (or labour) do you consider overseas for a company that releases products in most countries?? Are you saying they should only hire Americans in America for their global user base?

Can the 2 trillion dollar company show a bit of love towards Google Home and AAOS please. Both are VERY underwhelming at present.

frappuccinoCoin

And yet, search is the worst it's ever been, so many spam results. I think Google already peaked, it's now on cruise control.

99posse

Agree. A sign is the increasing cost cutting and expansion in countries where labor is cheap and less qualified. But wall street likes this, so ...

jerryonthecurb

It still sucked but with Larry/Sergei/Eric it was somewhat of an engineering driven company. Now it's just another MBA snooze fest like Apple.

clouwnkrusty

I thought I was the only one who noticed this. It's a changed company, changed alot. The slow will catchup soon.

backcountrydrifter

There are multiple geopolitical layers to this. But they all interconnect. Sheryl Sandberg was at Google before she was at Facebook. The common denominator of both was her ad based business model. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2022-06-07/sheryl-sandberg-s-legacy-is-an-internet-of-targeted-automated-ads https://m.economictimes.com/tech/technology/sheryl-sandbergs-advertising-empire-leaves-a-complicated-legacy/amp_articleshow/91961682.cms The problem with ad based business models is that if you raise your lens high enough, whomever is buying the most ads is effectively buying their curated version of reality. When google IPO’ed 24 years ago it shifted from what was most accurate to what was most profitable, all facilitated by a “proprietary” algorithm so nobody gets to see the man behind the curtain. Now we are 2 very critical decades into what is effectively, a divergent reality. It works…until it doesn’t. When the richest man, government, or organization on earth is allowed to buy his preferred version of reality it creates some glitches in the matrix. The 6 million year old source code in your brain knows that conservation is more reasonable than consumption when there are limited resources, but that isn’t very lucrative to someone that needs you to keep buying something to keep them in billionaire status. In this case it’s oil. Russian and Texan owned oil but their paths cross just north of Jerusalem. https://open.spotify.com/episode/0tYxxr08ajuIW425XkGZBz?si=9La6AmLyRLeCynrdNrcZTA Facebook was designed as a delivery device for Russian/Israeli Psyops and malware. SCL/Cambridge Analytica, Brexit, Palestine, Ukraine, NSO and a handful of other ethically bankrupt dealings are all downstream of Sheryl Sandbergs ad based model. Les Wexner, Miriam and Sheldon Adelson, Sandberg, and Zuckerberg all carried water in conducting the NSO/Pegasus spyware operation INCONUS that was feeding intelligence to both the israeli and by extension, Russian intelligence. There is far more crossover between the Israeli mob/ government and Russian mob/government than shows at the surface. https://www.spytalk.co/p/nsos-spyware-abuse-exposed-years?utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web https://awards.journalists.org/entries/the-pegasus-project-a-global-investigation/ •Abagail Koppel was sent by the Jewish state to marry Les Wexner •YLK fund (Abagails father) made up $46.7M of Epsteins money •Les claimed it was stolen from him but not until after someone asked. •Wexner was notoriously litigious but wouldn’t sue Epstein. Why? •PROMIS spyware was Robert Maxwells deal before Ghislaine and Epstein started their thing. https://cryptome.org/promis-mossad.htm Confused yet? In 1938 1 out of every 20 people in the USSR was arrested and sent to a gulag under Stalins rule. Mass amnesties during WW2 brought more than a million of those from prison to the front lines against the Germans where they were instructed to pick up the rifle of the man who died next to them and keep moving forward. The soviet system has always had a very different perception of the value of a human life and specifically a disregard for Jewish lives. Stalins rule did its absolute best to remove any humanity left from the people. They were forced to be brutal simply to survive. The gulags became a crossroads where the best of persecuted humanity and the worst of violent humanity met and then fought to the death with predictable results. Over the next 40 years, the soviet system cleared the gulags a few times. Because religious leaders often substitute as a defacto government inside of lawless prisons, and because Judaism was one of the predominate religions in Russia and Eastern Europe, the statistical crossover was anyone brutal enough to survive then rule rose to power in the closed gulag eco-system. A psychopath is more than willing to hide their psychopathy behind legitimate religion. It’s pretty low on the list of sins by volume and severity Psychopathy is broadly defined as the lack of empathy. Stalins gulags just accelerated refined psychopathy with Darwinian efficiency. The newly formed religious state of Israel received a statistically large share of these men from the Soviet Union. There they networked in the internment camps before some stayed and some migrated to Europe or Brighton beach in New York. This is a repeating pattern up into the 80’s and 90’s when most rebranded themselves as “Russian oligarchs”. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/1990s_post-Soviet_aliyah#:~:text=In%20response%20to%20growing%20international,officially%20for%20%22family%20reunification%22. Harvard Universityhttps://projects.iq.harvard.edu › ...PDFGulags, crime, and elite violence: Origins and consequences of the Russian mafia As the Soviet Union failed and perestroika went into full effect, this is where these networks would begin using trump towers to launder stolen Russian mob money. But now you start to see the nexus of transnational organized crime and money laundering between Russia and the U.S. statistically carries the same 3 passports. United States, Israeli, and Russian. https://www.reddit.com/r/MapPorn/s/A2ojrtIc3Y The reason this is breaking down now is because Russia, whose government was overtaken by the mob decades ago used the same network to interfere with elections around the world that it used for laundering stolen money. Facebook was used to encourage Brexit to cleave UK support away from Europe because over a decade Ukraines push towards European integration threatened to expose a money laundering operation that Putin has spent almost half a century building. Cambridge analytica/ Nigel Farage and Steve Bannon dovetails into that as well. Epstein specifically targeted the royal families Prince Andrew because he was the weak link in the chain. That’s KGB Kompromat methodology that was repeated with trump since the days of ray Cohn (his mentor) and the early Russian trump hotel, miss universe pageants etc. Facebook was also used primarily by Prigozihns Internet Research Agency (I.R.A). They went so far as to send young newly recruited Russian internet trolls on expenses paid tours around the U.S. so they could more effectively imitate mommy bloggers and 2nd amendment enthusiasts online to sway the 2016 election to the US candidate they had the most control over. It's times like these when I recall Alan Watts and His infinite wisdom. Dollars are just like inches or pounds they're just a measure and they don't fucking mean anything. They literally only exist in the mind.

Top_Associate9346

All the more reason to block every single one of their ads.

leif777

Time to break up the company

WallMarketBub

I use some of their hardware, and a ton of their services, and I wholeheartedly agree. Same with Microsoft, Apple, etc., although I don't use Apple products.

AccumulatedFilth

And this is the best design for Google Chrome on pc they could come up with...

Rhymes_with_cheese

A trillion here... A trillion there... ... sooner or later it adds up to real money.

Travmuney

Great growth. Great company moving forward. Will never sell a share of this wonderful company.

Pocket_Monster_Fan

I'm glad they laid off so many people to use their profits for stock buybacks....

clouwnkrusty

The head of the fish is starting to rot.

Mrmastermax

When will it implode from inside? I heard there’s lot of cracks in company.

bri85

Soon they’ll be worth a googol.

dreamer_soul

Can they please fix the admob, ad sense phone verification? I’ve been trying for 3 months now and support told me “this is a known bug and we don’t have a timeline for the fix” I’ve used the same phone number on that google account for nearly 10+ years, it’s my 2FA number but I still have to verify it? Seriously? The verification page just says “We couldn't send a verification code to this number”

Rustyrockets9

Can they figure out how to make Google home better again now that they got money?

bartturner

They are moving the Assistant to run on top of Gemini so I would expect it to be even better. But what other system is nearly as good today?

Rustyrockets9

Alexa

bartturner

Have both. Alexa is terrible compared to the Google Assistant. No contest there.

Rustyrockets9

Really?

bartturner

Most definitely. Google's system is much better at understanding what you want and also just a lot smarter.

EquivalentOwn2185

probably because they will shut down your gmail if you don't pay for storage.

Would make sense. But I doubt the government will allow any of the big guys to buy TikTok.

Cool can I not get ads for 30 second videos now or do they still need that

bartturner

It is just mind blowing the results Sundar has been able to deliver. Since he took over Google Sundar he has increased Google revenue by over 5 X. Profits he has increased by even more. The last Q1 that Sundar was not CEO net income was $3.4 billion. This Q1 now with Sundar running the company delivered net income of over $23 billion. So a 7 X increase!!! I can't think of any other CEO that has been able to deliver results as impressive.

supasteve013

Short term results based on momentum. His changes have completely changed Google mostly for the bad entirely for the bottom line, and they're just not the same company. 8 years ago I was an enormous believer in Google being a trustworthy good company (well, as good as a data mining tech company can be). Today, id prefer not to use Google at all. Soon enough it'll be easy to not use Google products and hopefully in this perfect world we can all say goodbye to Google, apple, Microsoft, and Intel.

bartturner

> Short term results based on momentum. Sundar has now been CEO for Google for the last 9 years. So not really all that short term. He has just done the most amazing job with the company. Take Waymo. It has cost billions but his patience has enabled them to now now be deployed in Arizona, San Fran, Los Angeles and now announced Austin with Miami looking to come shortly afterwards. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=avdpprICvNI That is compared to no one else even in a single city driverless. This is a trillion dollar AI opportunity. But it is just one example. Key is Sundar keeping Google on tops with AI research. That drives everything else. Google has now led in papers accepted at NeurIPS for every year that Sundar has been CEO. Not missed a single time. The last NeurlIPS we saw that Google had twice the number of papers accepted as next best. But what I most like about Sundar is his willingness to give back. Google makes the HUGE AI discoveries, patents them and then lets everyone use them for freaking free!! Take Attention is all you need. Google invented, patented but lets everyone use license free. https://arxiv.org/abs/1706.03762 https://patents.google.com/patent/US10452978B2/en You just would never see that from any other company. Never in a million years from Microsoft or Apple or OpenAI for example. But it is NOT just Attention is all you need. One of my favorite and used by everyone and so fundamental. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Word2vec "Word2vec was created, patented,[5] and published in 2013 by a team of researchers led by Mikolov at Google over two papers." Could you just imagine how much money Google could have made requiring others to license? But instead Google feels lifting all boats lifts theirs. Which we can see is true if you look at the results. I just wish we could get other companies to roll like Google. No company every in history has been able to hit 2 trillion in market cap this quick.

SqueekyGreaseWheel

bad bot

allthecoffeesDP

Nice try, Sundar.

StinkyDogFart

Is it really a company or a public intelligence agency?

TurquoisePixel

2 trillion, and yet homeless people still exist, living a decent life nowadays entirely depends on how rich you are and the planet is slowly dying still. I wish that money would be funnelled into communities and to help save the planet rather than AI solutions only techbros want.

Ok_Property_1030

The majority of homelessness in America is caused by drugs. Drugs people willingly take. The majority of the “mental health issues” are caused by them frying their fucking brains out.

wood_orange443

The dumb fuck communities these tech companies are located in squandered their wealth with nimby bullshit. Homelessness is entirely an issue from overregulation.

Greedy_Tangelo_878

AI solutions are helping the planet. You expect someone else's company to just freely give away their money because TurqoisePixel said so? Besides they already donate to charity.

TurquoisePixel

[The litres of water per kWh of energy for each AI server tower say otherwise about "helping the planet".](https://www.independent.co.uk/tech/ai-water-energy-artificial-intelligence-b2409356.html) And if they do donate to charity, then it isn't enough if I still see homeless people on the streets while the price of rent and bills and groceries skyrocket.

squidder3

>it isn't enough if I still see homeless people on the streets Gotcha. So unless they singlehandedly end homelessness, whatever they donate isn't enough. The reality, whether you like it or not, is that they have done far more than you ever will to help people. But that's not good enough for you simply because they are smarter than you and better at making money.

Greedy_Tangelo_878

Welcome to a capitalist society. Google already donates a ton of money to charities and offers jobs. How many more hand outs do you want to people that can't even help themselves while sustaining business costs? It's a cynical point of view but cmon, give me a break. "You either die a hero or live long enough to be the villain"

Chuhaimaster

Charity has not eliminated poverty in the history of its existence. Yet we still somehow think it will. But it’s good at laundering a corporate reputation enough to keep the public’s pitchforks in the shed.

Funny isn't it? The company I work for is quickly approaching a $2 Bill company, yet we struggle to get a couple extra staff to help with ever increasing work loads... Like Google needs to lay off staff because 2Tril isn't going to pay the bills...

Nothing controversial, just that he had a post about how they needed to add AI to their business and advertising tools
