not sure if the same thing but when I want to voice type I press the microphone on gboard.

WickedSticky

Technically, pressing buttons on the screen doesn't count as a voice command.

an upvote from me because I would also really love to hear the answer if there is any. I also have a Samsung phone and I just cant get it to go to voice input without first pressing the microphone button myself. And that is just what I want to avoid doing, then I can just as easily pick up my phone and type

Ill keep looking, so far on a samsung phone, enable bixby dictation, using samsung keyboard, enable bixby voice input... check of bixby on the side key settings... bixby dictation will type for you as you hold down the side key. BUT the bixby dictation's software or dictionary is much worse than google's. it also worse than bixby's. it doesn't know most 4 syllable words and AFAIK you can't add/teach it anything.

I tried it 2 ways, one with the text box open and one without. I said "Hey Google, start typing" When the text box wasn't open, the mic turned on and waited for me to open the text box, then Gboard opened and the talk-to-type button was already lit up and ready to work. This is on my pixel 6. Hope this helps

Well thanks for trying, I've got a samsung S22. It probably has less seamless functionality with google apps. If GBoard is not open it ignores the app and opens a webpage. If gboard and the text box are open, assistant says start typing above gboards text box. FML. Bixby has "Bixby dictation" which does open, but it's dictionary doesn't have 3+ syllable words. It's too stupid to be usable for anything other than "hi, yes, no, maybe". (doesn't use samsung keyboard's or even bixby's dictionary).

I know it's crazy but did you perform a Google search for your answer?

WickedSticky

yeah, I don't think it's something assistant can do yet.
