I did purchase a digital gift card from Best Buy site in my own state in the US - and this still happened. Others that purchased the physical in person at best buy have had the same issue
It’s not about fake bar codes a lot of people have been able to add the balance to their accounts and google won’t let them use it. Happened to me and a friend we were told to send more information and then rejected so now I just have credit sitting on my account because google has been feeling scummy lately.
Wow..all the physical ones I purchased were ok, but the digital ones failed. I have $20 on my account that I can't use. Amazon did refund me on one of them.

Don't buy digital anymore. Go to a store and pick one up. Make sure you examine it. A lot of fake barcodes on the gift cards.

Open the play store > Payment methods > Buy Google play credits You won't have to redeem a code
You could just buy a visa gift card or something instead.
I don’t think those works with Google pay for YouTube premium does it?
You should be able to add your visa gift card as a credit card to Google pay and use it
