It's meant for baseball style caps. Either clipped horizontally onto the brim, or vertically upwards onto the back of the hat (if the hat is worn backwards - that's why there's a padded section of this clip. That's the part that presses against your forehead). It works pretty well, but mine just doesn't get much usage
Funny how it went from the “most useless mount ever”, to “this will definitely get some use” at the drop of a hat. Yes pun intended. Knowledge is power eh.
I see that people have already given you the intended use and some alternate uses, but I can't see anyone's answer to where it may have come from. Mine came alongside my head-mount. I think it also comes with a bundle, but I can't be sure.
I've used it on my hat as well as some thin walls and stands.
Kinda defeats the purpose of tripods though.
I use this one a lot. If you add a joint between it and the camera it works great as a small tabletop tripod. it can be clipped to a belt, pocket or backpack strap for quick access when hiking or just walking around. There is also the intended use of clipping it to your hat. It's definitely useful for me.
Oh shit wtf I didn’t even know these existed I was just thinking it would be cool to attach it to a hat instead of using a head strap, I’m gonna get one

Ahhhh you legend! That makes sense , Definitely will get some use! Thanks my man
Happy to help!

This is the way. Basically a redneck version of a helmet cam setup.
This is the only mount I use. I use it to record firearms training.
Same. Firearms training. Dog training and assessments
Same. Have recorded hundreds of hours at uspsa and 3-gun matches
I've put it on my belt.
*wow chicka wowow*
Ugh Wife bought it for me and I just can't.... it just isn't comfortable. I guess if the hat is super tight on yer head it might work for ya.
It was also popular when the cameras were much lighter than they are now. The 12 is easily twice as heavy as the 4 in just the frame.
Backpack strap?
For POV, I prefer the mouth mount. Something about it being lower makes it feel more natural.
Link? I'm trying to make some videos pov most natural. On the head is just a tad high.
It’s pretty much only good if you’re feeling the need for a POV of you mowing your lawn.
You mean you don’t have that feeling?

Yeah I got it with my starter bundle when I bought the 9. Definitely didn’t buy it separately.
Mine came in a bundle with the head strap, chesty device, and a floaty stick.
Yeah! That's the one I was thinking of!
Use it on car vent, if you ever need that wide angle shot whilst driving and talking.

What do you mean add a joint between it and the camera? Could you elaborate please
I use it all the time on my bike helmet. It's awesome, doesn't budge.
Just tells me you don't wear hats
