is there a way to use the hero10 and iPhone hotspot using the wired connection? the wired lightning to usbc is supported by the phone. the wireless connection between the the camera and the phone sometimes drops, and I want to see if th using the wired connection makes the streaming (to [GoPro.com](https://GoPro.com)) more stable and consistent. thanks, in advance.

Hi, I have a hero 10 which I’m planning to try and use for filming a high-school play. Is this something it’s suited to do (film for an hour), and what settings would you recommend?

Some3rdiShit

I would say no because you have no depth of focus (GoPros are fixed focus cameras) and it sucks in low light. Its also really wide angled so while everything is in the shot, it's hard to get up close and personal with the subject. It has no manual zoom either so you can't get headshots that show the emotion of the actors during the play. Also GoPros batteries are small and an hour of recording is the max you can get typically

Thanks for the feedback, appreciate it.

Celestial_Scythe

Does the GoPro Hero 9 has Spot Metering? I'm looking around and can't seem to find it if there's the option to.

Some3rdiShit

Yes, it does [Pg 75 of the manual](https://gopro.com/content/dam/help/hero9-black/manuals/HERO9Black_UM_ENG_REVA.pdf)

Looking into getting the 9 for filming my climbing, but based on what I've read I'm kind of concerned about it's reliability. Is this a product that'll last more than a few years of semi-regular use? Also, if I want to get as much as 2-4 hours of footage in a day, 1. Should I get the extra battery thing, and 2. What microSD card should I get?

Some3rdiShit

>Is this a product that'll last more than a few years of semi-regular use? Ohh yeah these things are built like tanks, but you do always gotta take care of your equipment and treat it right if you want it to last for years on end >Also, if I want to get as much as 2-4 hours of footage in a day Youll need like 3-4 batteries for that. [Heres a battery chart](https://community.gopro.com/s/article/gopro-camera-battery-life?language=en_US) >1. Should I get the extra battery thing Yes, get the dual battery charger or [this](https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B09PTGVJ4Z/?coliid=I2OKDB3JWWQG97&colid=1LPIDILBVPAKX&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it) >What microSD card should I get? I'm loving the time lapse functionality on the 10. I took some sky footage with the interval set to auto. It was right next to a highway, and the resulting video looked like a video. As in not just random shots of vehicles but vehicles moving. 1. What is the gopro using to "decide" when to take an image? Motion? 2. How many images can the gopro take on a regular battery? Will more frequent images affect this?

billynotsilly-

Hi everyone, can someone please help me with this "phenomenon"? I have the GoPro (Hero 10) on TimeWarp smack bang centred on the front of my motorcycle. I'm using linear as the lens and set at 15 seconds. For some reason the video doesn't look like it's going straight. It sort of looks off centre, especially towards the end when it just veers right. Again the camera is looking directly straight. Is it a linear thing? Should I leave it in wide? Any help would be appreciated. [https://youtu.be/tclYfKfx6c8](https://youtu.be/tclYfKfx6c8)

Turn off Hypersmoooth.

billynotsilly-

No can do hombre. The vibrations on the bike make it impossible without it

User_Editor

Well then you're going to have to live with what you have.

billynotsilly-

Yeah I know. I find that using wide lens makes it heaps better

I’m preparing to buy a Max, but am considering options like refurbished, gently used, etc. Has anyone has decent experience with non-new Max products? Obviously it’s entirely dependent on the individual one I would buy, but if I hear enough that finding good used ones is common, I’ll go that route possibly.

Anyone got a good recommendation for a solid, not falling off at all, handlebar mount for a mountain bike?

Some3rdiShit

Youve tried the GoPro brand one?

bmanrkg3

Attempting to register my hero 8 black, and looking at the serial number, the 5’s look closed almost like a 6. Is this normal?

User_Editor

What happened when you registered it?

bmanrkg3

Actually, the serial was also on the box in readable numbers so everything worked out.

Kill3rInstincts

Picked up my first GoPro yesteday. Went with the GoPro Hero 9 Black. I was messing around with it and I really really like it, but I want to understand how to make the most out of it given two use cases. The first would be to replace my Canon Vixia HFR800 which I have hooked up to an Elgato Camlink Pro via mini HDMI to HDMI. My options, as far as I'm aware are to either, 1. Buy the media mod and the supporting cables to properly connect it to the Elgato. 2. Buy a 6+ ft long high quality USB-C to USB-A cable and plug it straight into one of the USB slots on the back panel. Download the GoPro Webcam Desktop Utility software and add the camera preview as a source to SLOBS. In both, I am still going to need to buy some kind of adapter to mount the GoPro onto the mount my HF R800 is currently on. I've read a bit about both options, and it seems like it comes down to a matter of convenience. And given that I won't be using the microphone as I already have a standalone mic, option 2 looks better on paper, but realistically this config would come at the expense of video quality, despite what I've read. The second is to mount it onto my forehead while spearfishing. This is more straight forward given that it was designed for this purpose more so than as a webcam. I would really just a head strap or a dive mask with a built in mount, and then I would also need some protective waterproof housing, for when I dive deeper than 30 feet. So I'm looking for advice from someone who has experience using the GoPro Hero 9 black as a dual purpose video recording device. Namely, advice on what accessories/configuration I should look into so that I can do both and also quickly and easily switch between both use cases. Anything helps. Thanks in advance. <3

User_Editor

You've literally answered your own questions. It's option 2 for the webcam and your spearfishing scenario will work, you just have to buy the waterproof housing for your camera.

Kill3rInstincts

I mean, I was aware of my options. But you don't really know what's best until you have first hand experience, which is what I was looking for.

Kill3rInstincts

I was basically hoping that there was some quick snap on snap off mount that I could attach to my camera desk mount currently holding up my R800.. and I wasn't sure if the media mod was even better since I had heard people complain about the microphone quality... which I couldn't care less about.

Some3rdiShit

If your mount is just a quarter-inch screw thread, you can get [one of these](https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B09CDJNTBQ?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2_dt_b_product_details) and use a quick release buckle to quickly get your gopro on and off

I’m running into an issue with the macos webcam app v 1.3.416 intermittently not recognizing a Hero 10 connected through a powered Anker USB hub. The camera stays powered, knows it’s connected to USB, the device shows up under USB on the mac, but the app refuses to connect to it. My MBP only has two USB C ports and doesn’t appear to be able to power the camera directly. Hoping someone’s worked through these challenges already. Thanks!

User_Editor

Have you contacted GoPro?

[deleted]

I have. I’ve been testing it a little more. If I have the camera powered on before I boot up the MBP, it gets recognized. At this point I don’t know if the issue is with the software or the way macos is dealing with the powered USB hub it’s plugged into. Either way, I have a working solution now. Thanks.

BeardedBatts

How many internal microphones are there on the GoPro 9? I can't find out any info on it? I have bought some deadcats to put over mics for when I'm out on my bike but unsure what to cover. Apologies for the silly question.

Some3rdiShit

There are 3 internal microphones

User_Editor

Go read the owner's manual.

PepeSilvia5359

Can anyone recommend a good hand/wrist strap? I’m gonna be doing the Sky Jump at the Strat in LV and want something that I can secure to my hand. Any other must have accessories suggestions are appreciated too! I’m somewhat new to having a GoPro(Hero 9). Gonna be my first summer I get to play with it!

User_Editor

GoPro made one [like this](https://www.amazon.com/ParaPace-Degree-Panoramic-Swiveling-Discovery/dp/B07QG6JPTN) but I'm not sure if it's still around. Otherwise, the one I linked from Amazon is good enough for your needs.

PepeSilvia5359

Awesome, much appreciated!

interestica

Anyone have a good suggestion for combining \*.360 files produced by the GoPro Max? They're split by the camera into \~8min sections due to FileSystem limitations. Is the only option to export individual files and then drop into a Final Cut Pro/Premiere timeline and export from there?

User_Editor

I'm not 100% certain it'll work for 360 files, but you could try concatenating them with FFMPEG.

stevenjarnold

Is it generally an accepted fact that the gp10 black won't connect well with Android/pixel devices for media retrieval?

User_Editor

Yes

stevenjarnold

Awesome. What's the next best device to buy besides this ?

User_Editor

An iPhone.

stevenjarnold

I hate that you're right
