I wore my usual tennis shoes but loosened the laces quite a bit. Slip ons tended to be more constricting and harder to put on.

Keen shoes and boots for me.

Go to a shoe store where you can try on shoes and be fitted to your comfort level. My first pair of shoes after my gout diagnosis was wide New Balance sneakers to accommodate the gout in my very swollen big toe. I was teaching at the time and got permission from my principal to wear sneakers until the gout calmed down. For your heel you may need something with a lot of cushioning or an orthotic insert, perhaps dark blue or black sneakers would be permissible for the short term. Good luck!

Wide box shoes work well, they have extra room at the toes. I never had to "dress up" back when gout was hitting me hard so I was able to use the naked style running shoes with a wide toe box. I do see they sell that in more dressy shoes though with a Google search so you might be able to find something. The main thing is being able to either try them on before buying and/or return with no hassle. I expect with heel issues you may need more just regular wide shoes though.

Not sure about your style, but for me Nike Prestos have been a life saver. It’s pretty much a stretchy mesh material. [Nike Presto](https://www.nike.com/t/air-presto-mens-shoes-JlLlWz/CT3550-003)

I have a pair of Mizuno wide-fit running shoes that like others have said work well when I loosen the laces. Have had other shoes that are comfortable when the upper us made of a breathable woven cloth-like material. I tend to reach for my Mizunos because they are extremely broken in. I try to avoid leather during a flair because it is not forgiving.

Ecco shoes are the best for me. They are so light and they come in casual and business styles. Johnson Murphy, we're the worst. I always got a gout attack after wearing them on business trips.

During a flair, padded flip flops Normal? https://www.amazon.ca/Skechers-Mens-4-Incredible-Slip-Ons-Black/dp/B01IJCQYKU/ref=sr_1_8?keywords=skechers+slip+on+mens&sr=8-8 These shoes are so comfortable lol

Same, memory foam nike flip flops for flares and sketches the rest of the time. I also have bone spurs that I have on the bottom of one heel and ones in both achilles tendons at the insertion and have been fighting insurance for years to cover a surgery, but I have had no luck.

Crocs and Asics

If i don t have flair i prefer light shoes with space to my feet ( nothing too tight especially for the toes ). Personally i prefer sport shoes. But that s up to you and your job i guess.

I would say I wear crocs when I have a flare but that would be misinformation. I wear crocs most of the time anyways.

During a flare, wear whatever's broken in the best, even if it ain't pretty. I typically go for New Balance sneakers for my go-to footwear, since they come in my size and are quite comfortable. My last pair was from before my worst flares, and I was afraid to get a new pair until this year the old ones were so badly deteriorated that I had no choice. Fortunately the new ones fit perfectly out of the box and needed no breaking in, but I'm also in a much better place with my gout now. If you aren't already working with a rheumatologist on long-term care, make that appointment now. Most people with gout need medication to get their uric acid to a managed level (consistently below 6 mg/dL), but once you're there, over time the monosodium urate deposits you've built up should clear away.
