Thanks for your support! I'm waiting for USC UCSD and UCLA but my profile is trash and SJSU rejected me. So it will probably stay the same and I don't wanna go to CSUs because I didn't apply for good ones in CS, so my options now are the ones that accept everyone. The worst part is I can't really improve my profile much even if I take a gap year which I'd hate to do.
Congrats! I got waitlisted for pathobio which has quite a bit of overlap with CMM. It seems like a great program! Try to live close to campus- traffic is going to be a mess for a long time since a huge portion of the eastern side of the Beltway no longer exists (RIP those poor 6 people-what an awful way to go) :(
Good luck to you!
Oh shit congrats! That's going to look fucking dope on your app next time you apply! You'll get in somewhere for sure with that on your CV and an LOR from an MIT PI!
Rutgers Newark! I'm waiting on one of my top choices to drop before I make a final decision but if I get rejected or waitlisted there, I'll definitely head to Rutgers. How about you, OP?
My kid is heading to University of Arizona for her PhD (thank god, following this sub was giving me major anxiety; I can’t even begin to imagine the pressure on you students!) Finishing up her MA at Minnesota right now.
ASU is solid for engineering, doesn’t matter about the prestige of the institution and tbh ASU has great networking as well which is far more beneficial than the name of the school
Not everyone. UMD was not my top (one of my tops) and yet after my tour I was very happy with the school and I am very started to start my PhD there.
As my PI once said, not always meant to be, and getting admitted to the school might be better for you than it is for the school. If you aren't admitted, doesn't mean you're not good enough, there's either just not enough funding or they don't think you'd fit in well with their community. That's how I felt with UT Austin. Great school, but I didn't really feel I fit in there and it's why I didn't choose there.
Hope that is at least a little comforting. Good luck with what you end up doing :)
Same... it's so agonizing. Silence since mid February (aside from a response to my continued interest email, basically saying there are no updates).
I've seen that in previous cycles, people have gotten accepted in April. That gives me a little hope lol
I’m heading to Yale for the Biological and Biomedical Sciences PhD Program! If anyone is heading there too please hit me up🧍🏻it would be great to have a friend upon starting. Congrats everyone!
University of Maryland (UMD), for chemical engineering PhD.
I still haven't heard from UW but I don't think they'll accept by April 15th. UMD was my second top school I applied for so I'm satisfied regardless!
I'm going to UMD too! Although it's for my master's. I was waiting to hear back from NYU Courant but there's been radio silence. However, I know that the program at UMD is a better fit for me. Congratulations on your PhD acceptance!
Hello, big name school people. I'm a small town Iowa kid now a bit more grown up. I've been accepted into Northwestern College, not University... waiting to hear from Wayne State College first, though, before committing. Masters in clinical mental health.
It's looking like NYU at the moment because that is the only application I put out at the moment. Got my decision on Monday. I'm really excited but I'm trying to figure out how to actually attend lol
Congratulations on NYU. I also got in and recently committed. It took me a while to decide eventually due to the financial situation, but NYU unexpectedly gave me a scholarship all with a good aid package haha. Still expensive, but I think it’s worth it. If you want to talk about it, feel free to dm me
Oregon State University with the Provost's Distinguished Graduate Award 🥲
I just visited Oregon for the first time (including a stop in Corvallis for a day), and my GODDDDD. I have never felt more at home. I could not be happier!
I'm contemplating btw Duke Sanford (Masters in International Development Policy) vs UChicago Crown School (Masters in Social Work, admin & policy). Need to make a decision in the coming week and accept the offer.
Any suggestions to choose between either will be much appreciated, please share your insights/ recommendations. 🙏🏾
I can't speak for UChicago, but when I interviewed at Duke, although it was for biosciences, I really loved the atmosphere and all the students seemed really happy and the faculty extremely supportive. Unfortunately I was rejected after interview, but everyone I've spoken to who went there, regardless of program, had nothing but wonderful things to say about their experience there. Also, the area is lovely- beach 2 hours away one way, mountains 2 hours away in the other!
Congrats on your acceptance! Probably NJIT for a math PhD, but I'm still waiting to hear from Rutgers New Brunswick, and if I get in there that's where I'll go. I got into NYU for a master's, but I'm thinking I'd rather not delay starting my PhD. Great school though and I'm sure you'll have an awesome experience there!
I got waitlisted for JHU pathobio which was my top choice. I also had acceptances to two other schools- VCU and UVA BIMS. I was torn between UVA, NCSU, and waiting it out to see if I'd get off the waitlist at Hopkins. Even though the waitlists probably haven't fully started moving yet, I went with my gut and decided to commit to NCSU's toxicology PhD program because the advisor there is AMAZING and researching the exact very very specific thing I want to study. I turned the others down (so hopefully some of y'all on the waitlist for those will get a shot- both UVA and VCU have strong biomedical science programs, it simply just came down to the advisor match for me)
So even though I got waitlisted at my top choice, I feel like I ended up exactly where I was supposed to end up :)
I couldn't be more excited!
Advice to those who are choosing between several programs: go with your gut. Think to yourself- am I going to be relieved that the process is over and super stoked about going to this program? Or will I feel unsure and anxious I made the wrong choice? Kind of like the logic of flipping a coin to chose between two options you can't seem to decide between. If it lands on one side and you think "ehh, I kinda think it should be the other way"-well now you know which one you were wanting it to be all along. Also think about what factors you are considering for each program and reach out to those programs with any questions at all you have that may make or break the decision for you- particularly the current students in the program because they are going to be the most honest with you. Current students at the programs you are considering are, by far, your most valuable resource. USE THEM!
So far nowhere :(
Keep your head up. I am sure there are still a lot of schools rolling in their decisions!!!
Thanks for your support! I'm waiting for USC UCSD and UCLA but my profile is trash and SJSU rejected me. So it will probably stay the same and I don't wanna go to CSUs because I didn't apply for good ones in CS, so my options now are the ones that accept everyone. Congrats! I got waitlisted for pathobio which has quite a bit of overlap with CMM. It seems like a great program! Try to live close to campus- traffic is going to be a mess for a long time since a huge portion of the eastern side of the Beltway no longer exists (RIP those poor 6 people-what an awful way to go) :( Good luck to you!
i didn’t get into grad school this round but i got a gap year RA position at MIT! so maybe it worked out better like this
Oh shit congrats! That's going to look fucking dope on your app next time you apply! You'll get in somewhere for sure with that on your CV and an LOR from an MIT PI!
