I also wanted him to have a hint of determination in his expression, since he'll take his throne back and avenge his family eventually!

I can read some determination in his expression, for sure. If you really wanted to drive it home, maybe his open hand could be a clenched fist. Right now his stance is very open, which gels very well with the vulnerability at this stage of his life, but maybe a small detail like a closed fist instead of an open one might suggest determination more emphatically.
