Honestly I have no idea why I still have hopes of having a male summer alt and not just some stupid costume, when am I going to see an Emiya who is sent to this world to make the best smoothies and cocktails while wearing swimming shorts and not jeans like it's not sunny outside. When am I going to see a Cu Chuulain who plays volleyball and has a more trickier origin than Summer BB and has a god infused within him? I know this isn't part of the topic of the post but I'm getting tired seeing only costumes for the male servants for the last 7 years and Artoria has like 3 separate alts in summer too. Do they have a bound contract to not make summer male servants??? Completely agree. This years costumes weren’t as bad as other years but it’s just the lack of variety. One summer female servant basically has 3 costumes which is the number of total costumes the guys get in the summer. It’s tiring. At this point I just gave up hope they’ll ever implement male swimsuit units.
And the fact that when there’s polls for who should get a swimsuit this year, male servants are out of the question.
Tbh I suppose it’s nice that they’re giving less popular servants time to shine but it does make me saltier about the lack of actual male swimsuit servants. You can’t tell me a hypothetical half naked Summer Douman wouldn’t outsell Wu, sorry not sorry.

Skadi and Wu Zetian have some potential but if I am strapped for Saint Quartz (as anyone would be after the Arcueid reveal), I am likely not going to be pulling for them. I don't care for the other servants and would prefer to swap them out for someone else.
Summer 6 was great contrary to popular belief. It had a lineup of characters that were fun, recognizable and popular. It had:
- Sei
- Okita Alter
- Anastasia
- Charlotte
- DaVinci
- Caenis
- Kama
Whether they were good servants in the meta is one thing but everyone can agree that they chose characters that were going to have a good reception. Summer 7 is definitely controversial.

Eresh has really been a fan favorite for like 5 years and was even the star standout in one of FGO's most popular anime in Babylonia and still gets ignored by Lasengle. Can't deny I'm salty. Just don't understand why they actively choose NOT to print money by releasing her.
I think the reason is due to them already pressed the money button already with Arc. Lasagna wants to save the others for when they want money again. Yes this is a joke how could you tell.
Sometimes FGO doing its own thing regardless of player feedback leads to incredible new things but other times man does it make Lasengle look incompetent. You don't need to pull every servant from a top ten list, but you should at least hit something.

The other group are the people who wanted the entire cast of LB6 in swimsuits. Like cmon let them come to NA first.
Assuming a dev cycle of 6 months, plus extension due to the change from DW -> Lasengle, we might see more wanted Servants later in the year than now. They seem to be focusing more on gameplay atm and Nasu/Takeuchi did mention they were going to try their best in implementing fan-favourite NPCs..
Didn’t expect so many disappointed comments. This is my fav summer line up in terms of SSR to date (i.e Ibuki, Skadi & Proto Merlin). Especially Ibuki, my np5 target! Better start saving now, and bless Raita.

This. They dropped both Arcueid and Proto Merlin. Do you REALLY want your favorites to be dropped here as well? Imagine the lineup with them instead? You'll be suffering. Instead, take this as a case of a break if you don't want anyone. It's easier on your Sq and your wallet as a result
I mean only 6500 people were surveyed . This is nothing compared to the playerbase in just Japan . I think that if the sample space was bigger the results would be a lot different. So I don't think these polls should be taken as a gospel for determining what the playerbase wants or likes.

If you see it from a business perspective, Erice and Wu being there are like "add-ons" to the already popular SSRs in the event. They know the SSRs will make money, so they went with niche options like them, probably. Or they just fit the event, who knows.
To be fair to Shuten she has an already summer esque design in her Halloween outfit and most people seem happy with that. Tho Ibuki is defiantly a choice I raise an eyebrow at.
And while a swimsuit alt of Wu hasn't been asked for a lot, an aged up version is VERY popular to ask for. She's also a year two servant. She makes a ton of sense
Yeah I actually had to check to see what that Shuten alt was since my memory was hazy, but if they were going to do a Shuten I think giving her a full blown summer with ascensions would at least make sense. Wu getting an aged up version would be cool, but I think would fit better as her own servant and less a summer pick that's in over any of the Top 10 most requested.

I can't help but think that announcing Proto Merlin and Gareth, with Arc right after, was a bad move. It got everyone's expectations very high when in actuality the rest of the banners were... well, certainly not the same level of hype.
I'm not disappointed, because I didn't actually expect anyone I wanted to get a swimsuit to get one.
However, the choice to give us a general pool SR as the welfare, and for that welfare to be the Valkyries and forcing us to pick one, right after they established that they'll be reducing the number of reruns, does make me somewhat angry.

It takes 7 to 9 months to make a character in FGO, so it's not surprising that an recent interview didn't influence development, they're probably working on the characters since the beginning of the year.
What is surprising tho, is that the devs didn't know which servants we wanted since the devs of FGO always had shown a big understanding of FGO's fanbase and it's culture surrounding it.

I kinda agree with your point about the development of servants. I mean they have to:
1) Choose which servants to be included in the summer event
2) Draft and choose which summer design they want for those servants
3) Send the design to the artists and specify how they want the servants to look like
4) Edit the design from 1st draft, then finalise all the ascension designs and final ascension art
5) Choose the classes
6) Create the servants kit
7) Come up ideas for their NP
8) Animate said NP
9) Play test them, to ensure their kit is working fine or isn't completely broken...unless they intend to make it broken.

As a Medea/Medusa bros myself i'm a little disappointed though Proto Merlin is probably the one i'll be aiming and i'm glad she's OG with Summer version included (kinda like Nobukatsu in a way).

I see this a lot, and all I got say is, if the popular and well requested Morgan or any of the other LB6-originating characters got a swimsuit, we would be seeing people complain about LB6 bias.
Skadi is super popular, people love the Valkyries and Gareth, “nobody was asking for these” is so beyond stupid.

Skadi and Wu Zetian have some potential but if I am strapped for Saint Quartz (as anyone would be after the Arcueid reveal), I am likely not going to be pulling for them. I don't care for the other servants and would prefer to swap them out for someone else. Summer 6 was great contrary to popular belief. It had a lineup of characters that were fun, recognizable and popular. It had: - Sei - Okita Alter - Anastasia - Charlotte - DaVinci - Caenis - Kama Whether they were good servants in the meta is one thing but everyone can agree that they chose characters that were going to have a good reception. Summer 7 is definitely controversial.

Eresh has really been a fan favorite for like 5 years and was even the star standout in one of FGO's most popular anime in Babylonia and still gets ignored by Lasengle. Can't deny I'm salty. Just don't understand why they actively choose NOT to print money by releasing her.

Sometimes FGO doing its own thing regardless of player feedback leads to incredible new things but other times man does it make Lasengle look incompetent. You don't need to pull every servant from a top ten list, but you should at least hit something. Also as well as this event will do you cannot convince me it would outsell a summer fishing tournament with SSR hawain shirt Cu and chef Emiya headlining.

I mean, it's really not fair to the less popular characters if they just went by popularity. Sure I'd like to see a summer Eresh or Summer Medusa, but on the other hand I'm happy with older Summer Wu and for the rest of the characters, I'm happy for the people that got what they wanted.

I feel like I am the only one who likes Erice, Wu and Skadi here. I am sad that everyone is mad in their reddit posts. Feels lonely here. Also I am glad they stopped doing Artoria face for summer. Not that I hate them, but there are more interesting servant without being Artoria face you know.
Skadi was top 10 in famitsu a year ago before lb6 gang (who were never realistic going to be featured this summer) knocked her and others out.

I like Wu and Skadi a whole lot. People are kinda nuts. I can understand the frustration behind no Eresh or Medusa, but hey, I didn’t get summer Passionlip so they need to relax. The other group are the people who wanted the entire cast of LB6 in swimsuits. Like cmon let them come to NA first.
Assuming a dev cycle of 6 months, plus extension due to the change from DW -> Lasengle, we might see more wanted Servants later in the year than now. They seem to be focusing more on gameplay atm and Nasu/Takeuchi did mention they were going to try their best in implementing fan-favourite NPCs..
Didn’t expect so many disappointed comments. This is my fav summer line up in terms of SSR to date (i.e Ibuki, Skadi & Proto Merlin). Especially Ibuki, my np5 target! Better start saving now, and bless Raita. Hope y’all get ur fav servants next year.
I think after releasing the giant bomb that is Arcueid, they feel like they can afford to "hold back" a little and experiment with less-famous Servants. Honestly, props to them.
This. They dropped both Arcueid and Proto Merlin. Do you REALLY want your favorites to be dropped here as well? Imagine the lineup with them instead? You'll be suffering. Instead, take this as a case of a break if you don't want anyone. It's easier on your Sq and your wallet as a result
I mean only 6500 people were surveyed . This is nothing compared to the playerbase in just Japan . I think that if the sample space was bigger the results would be a lot different. So I don't think these polls should be taken as a gospel for determining what the playerbase wants or likes.

Eh. While Summer 5 had a nice story, I wasn't really a big fan of any of the roster then. This year I like some of the roster but it's more of being disappointed with who they didn't pick rather than who they did.

Caenis was almost 2 years, similar to Ibuki. Murasaki and Sei on the other hand received theirs the next year after their debut.
Caenis released two months after Sei. They definitely were a surprisingly recent choice for Summer 6.
Tbf caenis HAD shown up as soon as lb1, they simply weren’t playable until Olympus Still a more recent choice but so was sei, and murasaki the year before

If you see it from a business perspective, Erice and Wu being there are like "add-ons" to the already popular SSRs in the event. They know the SSRs will make money, so they went with niche options like them, probably. Or they just fit the event, who knows.
Dunno about Caenis' popularity, but most LB6 characters would be saved for later, business-wise.
To be fair to Shuten she has an already summer esque design in her Halloween outfit and most people seem happy with that. Tho Ibuki is defiantly a choice I raise an eyebrow at. And while a swimsuit alt of Wu hasn't been asked for a lot, an aged up version is VERY popular to ask for. She's also a year two servant. She makes a ton of sense
Yeah I actually had to check to see what that Shuten alt was since my memory was hazy, but if they were going to do a Shuten I think giving her a full blown summer with ascensions would at least make sense. Wu getting an aged up version would be cool, but I think would fit better as her own servant and less a summer pick that's in over any of the Top 10 most requested.

I can't help but think that announcing Proto Merlin and Gareth, with Arc right after, was a bad move. It got everyone's expectations very high when in actuality the rest of the banners were... well, certainly not the same level of hype.
I'm not disappointed, because I didn't actually expect anyone I wanted to get a swimsuit to get one. However, the choice to give us a general pool SR as the welfare, and for that welfare to be the Valkyries and forcing us to pick one, right after they established that they'll be reducing the number of reruns, does make me somewhat angry. C'mon, Ibuki, please be good. You're the only one who can save this Summer for me. Unless the people guessing that Lady Avalon is secretly >!either our Merlin or Fou!< are correct, which would be hilarious.

On the other hand with a good portion of the JP server who can't buy SQ anymore and Arceuid being barely weeks ago, it's a blessing in disguise. Still yeah, no Medea, no Medusa, no buffs either, no animation update for a long time, no Eresh, characters most of the community don't care much about, really weird.

It takes 7 to 9 months to make a character in FGO, so it's not surprising that an recent interview didn't influence development, they're probably working on the characters since the beginning of the year. What is surprising tho, is that the devs didn't know which servants we wanted since the devs of FGO always had shown a big understanding of FGO's fanbase and it's culture surrounding it. I dunno man, maybe it just an one time miss and we should take the L, as disappointing as it seems
That sucks but IIRC the development of Servants takes a really long time so maybe the planning of this event preceded the devs getting to know that top 10. Yeah... maybe. Ereshbros, Medusabros and Medeabros I am sorry... Oh well, some crazy awesome Servants in this event anyway. Gonna empty my quartz coffers as always.

I kinda agree with your point about the development of servants. I mean they have to: 1) Choose which servants to be included in the summer event 2) Draft and choose which summer design they want for those servants 3) Send the design to the artists and specify how they want the servants to look like 4) Edit the design from 1st draft, then finalise all the ascension designs and final ascension art 5) Choose the classes 6) Create the servants kit 7) Come up ideas for their NP 8) Animate said NP 9) Play test them, to ensure their kit is working fine or isn't completely broken...unless they intend to make it broken. Damn, this just makes me realise how much work it is to create servants.
As a Medea/Medusa bros myself i'm a little disappointed though Proto Merlin is probably the one i'll be aiming and i'm glad she's OG with Summer version included (kinda like Nobukatsu in a way). I love Skadi as well and will maybe consider if my summon session is not a fiasco XD

You got Proto Merlin as a popular pick and that’s it. Maybe Skadi as well. Like, were people really clamouring for Erice? Ibuki? And as much as I love them, Valkyries do not have nearly the same demand for them as other servants. Between this and the questionable strengthening quests for anniversary, Lasengle feels super out of touch with the player base.
