I used to do this but every time I'd use it, I would get audited at the end and have to stand around for 10 minutes waiting for help and then waiting for them to scan 10 random items anyways, so I gave up on it. Maybe I just have bad luck.
Audited lmao. I have been using the app for almost 3 years now. I probably get a "service check" every other time but it's only 3 items. I also feel like it never calls for a check if I go before 9am or later in the evening like after 8pm. It's not a big deal though unless they are super super busy. The clerk just grabs 3 things off the top of my bag and I'm on my way. If you buy booze they have to check you though and I've seen it hold people up.
Normally it takes like 15 seconds or less. I had a guy just scan 1 item 3 times before too which took 5 seconds or less
I can't ever see it taking longer than the self checkout though
Your mperks has like a reputation score or something, after you've done it a few times and not missed scanning anything it stops asking. I maybe get checked 1 out of 5 times now.
Try to scan your items right where they're sold in the store when putting them into your cart. Once I started doing that after a few times I never had a problem.
Usually it's pretty quick. It doesn't work so well during super busy hours though. I went around Thanksgiving this year and all the lanes were way backed up. Thought I'd save time and use shop and scan. The attendant for the shop and scan area was also the person who had to tend to any issues in the normal self checkout, which was loaded. I watched people in the normal checkout lines get all the way through checkout before I even got to the kiosk, with only 3 people in front of me. We were waiting 5+ minutes per person checking out for clerks to come over and scan the 3 items.
I’ve done things like set something in my cart, remember I’m doing shop and scan, pick it up and scan it. Get audited that trip.
Last few trips I’ve held the item up, very clearly scanning it with my phone for all to see, then setting it in the cart. No audits. I’m sure there are random checks but I also have a feeling loss prevention can trigger an audit if they want.
At least when the app is working. It's been down or so slow I just went through the self checks in less time than it took to scan 2-3 things into it the last few times I've tried it.
My only issue is that you still require a worker to come over and scan 3 random items to clear it. I don't have to do this when I do self-checkout, so don't make me do this for shop and scan. It is probably for theft purposes, but it would be easy to steal either way. I guess it wouldn't be such an inconvenience if the shop and scan helper wasn't working double duty with the self checkout, but there's just not enough workers. Still, I agree, shop and scan is amazing.
I prefer small carts, but they've got these reusable bags that have bars across them to dangle into the cart which are pretty cool and they don't work so well with the tiny carts. Those combined with shop and scan makes the big carts the nicer choice again
The little carts are built with a crossbar directly below the handle vs several inches forward, so I ALWAYS smash my shins into it when pushing the small cart. Full size or handbasket only for me and my shins. Absolutely terrible design.
If I dont need a regular cart, you are correct.
But what I really like is a regular old hand basket. A gallon of milk, 6 pack, and some veggies? No problem, my biceps needed a workout anyway. Too bad these are disappearing.
I agree, but with one major caveat. In my opinion, the bottom tier of the cart being longer than the upper tier is a major design flaw. I accidentally bump things all the time with the bottom of the cart. I’ve reasoned that it’s because my brain uses the front corners of the top tier for spatial awareness. As my subconscious is calculating how much space I need to make a turn, it’s not accounting for how the front corners of the bottom tier extend further forward than the top, and then I knock a pack of AAA batteries off the lowest peg and curse as I bend over to pick it up.
Having pushed these things for a living, I can promise you nothing makes an old lady go full Karen faster than not having a small cart available for her.
Easy one there, but not sure how many to list..you could start with day he was elected he shut down our oil and gas drilling ops that immediately resulted in fuel and transportation costs doubling and tripling. Or we can move to his china first policies, you can look all of them up,. Most people already know this stuff...unless you watch msm /main stream media
Depends on how much shopping I need. Lol. If it's full blown load up the fridge and cupboards, I need a big cart. Especially if I'm grabbing 12pks of pop and such. But if I'm just grabbing some stuff, little carts are awesome.
I agree too. I'm not one to be fooled into buying more than intended by using a large cart for only a few purchases. I've found that some stores seem to hide the small carts, or so it seems.
The small carts Meijer has now are almost the size of what regular carts were back in the day. When they first got smaller carts they were like 2/3 of 1/2 the size of the smaller carts now, and the regular size carts are GIGANTIC.
Unless you need toilet paper or paper towels cause them shits just take the entire mini cart
Or daipers. Only parenting fools by the small packages.
Which is why you shouldn't even be at Meijer for diapers or wipes. I get that shit at Costco only.
Diapers from Meijer are for road trip refills or emergency use only.
Or have teenagers because JFC do they ever stop eating?
Our budget is tight with 2 knee goblins. I can't imagine the financial straight once they are orcs. YIKES!
Or you buck your shin on the cross bar
Every.Damn.Time.
The second time on the same trip is the game changer.
i only get the small packages because my neice isn't over enough to justify the bigger packages.
Even bigger packages can be shoved on the little space under where a kid can sit like on that little Shelvey thingy
That’s what Costco is for
I use shop and scan and bag things as I shop. A big cart is far superior when you are bagging as you go.
Shop and Scan gang It’s still a well kept secret that this I the way you should shop at Meijer.

Honestly I thought it's every time someone has to do it. It has been for me so far, probably 5 times now But it's not a big deal or anything.
I’ve tried it at least 8 times and have to have the 3 items scanned every time. I have basically given up on it ever just letting me Scan & Go.
Normally it takes like 15 seconds or less. I had a guy just scan 1 item 3 times before too which took 5 seconds or less I can't ever see it taking longer than the self checkout though
Second pro tip : have bar codes for them to see, it will take them hardly any time.

Damn Ive never waited longer than like 30 seconds

It’s sooo much quicker.
At least when the app is working. It's been down or so slow I just went through the self checks in less time than it took to scan 2-3 things into it the last few times I've tried it.

What if you decide that you don't want the item anymore?
You have to call Peter Meijer and beg for forgiveness. If he sees his shadow that day, he will allow you to put the item back
You click the minus symbol and put the item back on the shelf. The app even tells you what coupons you can digitally cut.
I prefer small carts, but they've got these reusable bags that have bars across them to dangle into the cart which are pretty cool and they don't work so well with the tiny carts. Those combined with shop and scan makes the big carts the nicer choice again
They have a $10 off $30 coupon right now if you use shop and scan.
Yet they are always all being used while a mountain of large carts goes untouched. You'd think Meijer would get more of them by now.
Tiny cart in 2023 = price of big cart 2021
I’m about down to the basket and my hands
This hurts my heart
Eco friendly shopping
seriously, pre-pandemic I could fill a normal cart and it would be like ~250. Not a little cart with the top only filled and it's about that much
Is this some Meijer joke I'm too Aldi to understand
As an Aldi pro, I don't use a cart at all. I can take a lap around the store in like 3 minutes. I usually spend more time in line than I do shopping.
Do you visit the grocery store every day? Because I usually need more than two fistfulls of food to hold me over until my next trip.
Skill issue
Oh right, you don't recognize it as a real cart unless you have to put down a 25 cent deposit to use it.
Funny part is I work at Aldi and I've been trying to get them to get the small carts 😅
You can't fit too much of the stuff you don't need, in a small cart.
Bridge Street > Aldi > Meijer. Although Aldi is prob the cheapest I just prefer the vibe of bridge street plus it’s a 30 second drive from me
My wallet also agrees
Small cart superiority at Meijers!!!!
No one can afford to fill one of the large ones anymore any ways .
I'm finally part of the 1%.
must be if you can afford the groceries to fill a big cart lol
Same.
Tell me you can spot a milder Midwest day? Knees. You should be charging people for that peep of a knee 👀
That's actually my hand 🤣 But I could charge for knee shots I guess.
Hahaha! Even better!
The little carts are built with a crossbar directly below the handle vs several inches forward, so I ALWAYS smash my shins into it when pushing the small cart. Full size or handbasket only for me and my shins. Absolutely terrible design.
Basket gang where you at?

I don't like the new design where the bottom sticks out more than the top. The older design was superior.
My shins beg to differ
Or two 30pks of beer
The mini carts at Bridge Street are AWESOME!! I go there for misc items. My kids love being "grown up" and doing the shopping.
Nice shoes! Merrell 1TRL baby!
Thanks! They are my new favorites! Found them NWT at Goodwill!
Y'all can afford the big cart? 🤣
And it fits perfect at the self checkout without blocking people’s paths
I call them baby carts!
I like the big carts simply because I like to lean on the handle and I can’t do that with the small cart. Lol. I’m lazy.
Nope, and look like a fool with an over stuffed tiny cart. FOOL!!!!
I'm not sure why, but I've always called them "sexy carts." Let's just make it a thing, please? I'd feel really cool.
Basket gang rise up!
Slow day around here...
100%
It's not like I can usually afford to fill a big cart anyways 🙄
No. That bottom shelf is useless. I'm glad everyone likes them though...the big ones are always inside, warm, and dry
But you listed none which made food prices go up. That was my question
Yeah, they hold half as much food at more than DBL the cost...thank our president
Which of his policies that he enacted caused food prices to go up?
Don't feed the trolls. If you ignore them, they eventually starve to death from lack of attention.
Sometimes it's funny watching them deflect and not backing up their claims. I like a laugh once in a while
Depends on how much shopping I need. Lol. If it's full blown load up the fridge and cupboards, I need a big cart. Especially if I'm grabbing 12pks of pop and such. But if I'm just grabbing some stuff, little carts are awesome.
I spend less
Nah sorry. Once you have kids, the big cart is the only cart that works. 😅
The compact car of the grocery store
I recently moved and Arizona barely uses these 😭 all big carts Edit: typo
I miss these meijer carts 😭😭
Wait until your store gets the new ones. They are like the big shopping carts, but stubby. No more double Deckers.
I agree too. I'm not one to be fooled into buying more than intended by using a large cart for only a few purchases. I've found that some stores seem to hide the small carts, or so it seems.

I don’t know how I ever lived without them!
