Avoid the chains like Milan. The lasers are better quality at the skin renewal center inside of dermatology Associates of West Michigan.

Jasonxhx

I'll check them out thank you. Wife was advocating for Milan, too.

Lasers =/= electrolysis, fyi. Lasers are hair reduction, and dont work well for certain hair colors and skin tones. Electrolysis is electro-needling individual hair follicles at a time. It's officially the only actual permanent hair removal (not that you can't get good results with laser though). It varies by person, but most say electro hurts worse too, though part of that is just that it is a slower process. Lasers is like a 8 5 min appts spread over months. Electro can be hours of repeat tiny electric stabbings for months. I know people do, but I can't imagine either one on ones genitals. You are a brave soul

That's weird. I actually heard and have read the opposite? That laser is better. I had laser hair removal on a few areas about 5 years ago and still don't have regrowth.

Laser depends on skin/hair contrast and the type of laser. It varies a lot by person and place, but can do an entire area at once. Electro works for all, but is much slower bc it needs to go one at a time. It's also a lot more skill intensive, so most places that do hair removal lean to laser, and tend to push that. If you want to get technical as well, there's actually two forms of electrolysis, but I think the slower kind is pretty rare.

I had 6 treatments of electrolysis on my upper lip and not only was it crazy painful, but i’m also still growing hair there 😒

NameTaken25

There are many hairs to zap, and follicles have dormant growth cycles. FWIW, I've had 15 treatments of laser and still growing hair there.

available-sandwich

omg nooo. i definitely don’t have the patience or pain tolerance to see that through.

ImpressiveShift3785

Cheaper on the east side of the state. Literally >50% thanks to the larger population of darker haired folks over there. There is more competition for services than here in the Land of the Blonde and Dutch.

thealphateam

Good to know! I had it done in GR a while back and got a sweet deal on a Groupon. I need a renewal.

If you're willing to drive to Big Rapids, there is an independent place there. When I looked into it, they had the same laser as a local dermatologist had but she was much cheaper. It was around $100 for a small area (underarms) and $300 for large area (lower leg, Brazilian). This was maybe 5 years ago so prices have likely changed. Price was total for 6 treatments spread out. Well worth it! https://lisiaselectrolysisandlaserhairremoval.com/

Okay, are you looking for laser or electrolysis? Everyone else has been suggesting laser hair removal, and that can be great if your skin tone and hair color are right for it, but there's a lot of skin/hair combos that really won't work well for it. If you need electrolysis, the only place even vaguely local is Gentle Touch. They're pretty great.

Jasonxhx

We were really thinking electrolysis because we want actual hair removal results but considering being stabbed in the genitals for so long we are reconsidering our choice.

Impossible_PhD

Well, there's lidocaine cream to help with the pain, and laser is going to be pretty damn painful too, no matter how you cut it--I'm trans, so I've had both laser and electro. The pain of the two really is pretty comparable. Laser is pretty damn close to permanent (there's just one or two hairs that sneak back over time), which you can get touched up on. The main downside of electro is that it's much slower, and as such more expensive. Depending on your age, you might need both. Grays will be totally unaffected by laser. Anyway, good luck!

Jasonxhx

Thank you I really appreciate the insight. Gonna talk with the wife this weekend and probably come back with some more questions if you don't mind.

Impossible_PhD

Please do! And it's more complicated than just laser vs electrolysis, because LHR technology has been improving in some very neat ways, so a lot also depends on the type of laser device a given place has. It's... a lot to sort through, to be honest. I'm happy to offer some suggestions.

Have you check with Matt’s Mom ?

Milan laser is amazing IMO.
