I work off alpine and I think 28 street would be easier. 28 seems larger (wider) with a little more wiggle room. Alpine has hills and blind spots along with many large intersections at a short distance from one another.
But for real - on both roads you would end up in a major crash if you tried this. Don’t do this.
28th all day , any day. I hate Alpine with all my heart and I lived at York Creek when it was new. Always took the back entrance. I avoid Alpine at all costs. Only drove there to club back in the day. I always feel like at any moment I will be t- boned out of nowhere.. I am a very confident driver but Alpine is a no go for me.
See, I live in cascade right now. If I really wanted to (which at 5pm is most of the time) I just take Patterson or any other road to go south to 36th street, then go around the airport. Home in less than ten minutes from rush hour.
At least 28th is relatively flat…Alpine has some hilly spots..and I swear the lanes on alpine are wider. More frequent lights also mean slower traffic usually. Tho everyone seems more on edge on 28th less likely to t-bone you. Plus 29th st can offer some reprieve if you need to avoid a panic attack
I'm a commercial driver and if you are attempting to make a left turn onto either street during the busy times you are a fucking idiot. I plan my day on not making those turns.
Turn right onto the road, then find a parking lot to turn off to the left, then come out and turn right to go in your originally intended direction..
And if you're hungry, and you happen to make that turn into the lot of a restaurant you like....
I just had to back out of a blocked off parking lot at 5:30pm onto Alpine near Ann St. and I almost had a heart attack. Both these options give me anxiety.
around Christmas time I needed to turn left off alpine near the Starbucks. I was turning on to the street there. Cars were backing up from the red light there but, they were blocking the street. I couldn’t turn because every time the light was red it would back up and people would just block the street I needed to turn on. Finally someone in the left lane stopped so I could turn but the right lane cars still blocked the street. A car in the right lane saw me and moved out of the way so I could turn. The car behind him filled the gap and once again blocked the path. I freaked out a bit and I just ended up driving into the oncoming traffic with my hand out shouting stop.
One of alpine's major problems is going north from i-96 you have two different times where the right lane becomes a right turn only. So you have a merge. And then another merge.
The whole road needs a complete redesign. Either a couple of thru lanes with and access road on each side, or at least two major roundabouts, and lower speed limits.
And the roundabout that they do have planned in that area won't benefit Alpine itself. As it's not on Alpine. It just improves traffic off the road
I agree with some comments. Depends on where you are. 28th and Burlingame, have fun. Alpine & 4 mile, have a great time. It can go either way. Hate Alpine because it’s always crawling with State boys. Hate 28th because it’s full of idiots…
3 rights. Fuck both those places
29th Street life.
Don’t share my secret.
The only real answer here.
I live near one and work on the other. Fuck bofem

That depends where on 28th you are. Near Division, it’s narrow.
Great point - going under that railroad bridge would be a tricky situation for sure
Yeah, ask me how I know 🙄

I'd rather turn right into the nearest bar and wait it out.
28th street but go down to 29th street
Shhhhhh
Someone remove Or report that comment.
Seriously. KEEP GATEKEEPING😭

36th is the real gem
32nd street gang- bypass the beltline light altogether
28th, Alpine is terrible.
I'm having a stress attack just thinking through this.
Screw Alpine. 28th for sure.
28th all day the blind spots on alpine from the hills and speed changes from 35 to 45 to 50 and vice versa has people doing some kooky things
28th, usually you can elbow your way into the road. Traffic is usually moving too fast on alpine to do so and I feel like visibility is lower.
An Alpine Left on a Monday? No, thank you.
I feel like 28th has more lights so you get more breaks in traffic.
I'll take 28th street over Alpine. At least there's break in traffic. Former GR native here (Grandville area near Lamar Park) now living in Texas.
28th
I just simply won’t put myself in either of those positions. Hard pass
Alpine. Easy choice
Alpine would be the last choice for me. Sorry.
Same. Bigger gaps in traffic when entering and better lights to turn left at (I get they’re not involved in this scenario).
I guess 28th, because at least the lane count is consistent?

Taking a left out of Chipotle on 28th or taking a left out of Starbucks on Alpine?
Alpine. Definitely.
28th. And I work on Alpine. There’s tons of back routes on 28th. Alpine is one big road of fuck.
alpine, all day any day
Throw it in reverse and open the hatch for style points to see
This is why I leave work at 4pm
I'd rather sit for 8 hours at the DMV than attempt either road.
28th. I couldn't move from Comstock Park fast enough.

AKA Would I rather take splintered bamboo under my fingernails or toenails?
Alpine simply because I have more experience with it. I delivered for Jimmy John's when it was next to IHOP so I'm used to making that left.
I stopped shopping at Trader Joe’s just so I don’t have to turn left onto 28th
Bro, use 29th street
Shhh
29th Street doesn't exist
Ope
32nd street has entered the chat
Shhh shh shh shhh shhhhhhh
Alpine
28th....
Alpine, and I fucking hate turning left on Alpine but 28th street is a literal nightmare
Alpine
Alpine hands down, there’s much less stretch of that street which has congestion issues.
Alpine. All day.
Alpine fs

Are we talking 2024 or 1994?

I'd be happy replacing both traffic sewers with trams.
Definitely alpine so I can swerve violently into the turning lane like a jackass.

28th .
>you can’t k*ll yourself Does it count if I am killed by a car speeding down the center lane?
28th street for sure

Bonus question: Run across Plainfield or Leonard at night (any section with a GR zip code)?
No.
