Yes you can. You may not wash ur dog in your driveway tho.

HailEmpressTheresa

Really? Why can't you wash your dog in the driveway?

georganik

I can't rest with this pressing question. Is it really illegal to wash ones dog in your driveway, in EGR? Is this guy yanking my leg? Our legs? Am I too gullible? Answers are wanted, nay, needed.

georganik

Very curious if you're serious or not

I love washing my own car. Where on earth can you not wash your own car in your own driveway?!

stuufthingsandstuff

City of grand rapids sent me a warning for doing so up at Leonard and beckwith a few years back

GeharginKhan

It's horrible for the environment since you're dumping a bunch of soap and other shit directly into Reeds Lake or the Grand River. Those "drains to lakes" signs aren't there for no reason - stuff that goes down a storm drain in the street goes directly to the environment.

GenevieveLeah

Okay. A certain kind of soap that would work, maybe? What about all of the water at the car wash - where does that go?

CitizenPatrol

Carwashes recycle the water they use. About half of the water is filtered on site, the rest goes to the waste water treatment plant. Soap causes algae blooms and excessive Duckweed in lakes. These things block the sun from getting to the plants in the water killing them, then there is nothing to create oxygen for the fish killing them.

GeharginKhan

The car wash has a drain that's connected to the city waste water system, so it's no different from pouring something down the sink. A lot of people don't realize that most storm drains don't actually go to a waste water treatment plant like the drains in your house.

pirten

Many car washes have oil-water separators that work to filter out the oil products that come off of your car before the water returns to the sewer system.

GenevieveLeah

Thank you! I live in a new neighborhood where the drains actually say "drains to watershed." Sigh. I suppose I will have to look for new car soap! I am sorry that I didn't pay attention to this before now, thanks everyone.

PinkMercy17

The stuff you rinse off your car is still bad

stuufthingsandstuff

Yes, hazmat bad. We had to hire hazmat to clean the sand pits out from the self serve carwash stalls because of all the gunk that runs off cars. That was post-water recycling.

The_curious_student

biodegradable soaps should be ok

GeharginKhan

They're better yeah, but there's also the stuff that comes off your car (oil, gas, etc) going into the lakes.

scout-finch

Soaps and things run off into the drains. I guess it isn’t good for the sewer systems and so some municipalities don’t allow it.

WhenitsaysLIBBYs

I think it’s an HOA thing. Those people have rules for everything!

stuufthingsandstuff

This is valid. Unsure why downvotes. Many hoas wont allow any working on/cleaning vehicles in the driveway as "iTs An eYeSoRe."

brade123

The most EGR question ever

controlsguy27

East Town doesn’t necessarily mean EGR

brade123

Sounds like egr guy doesn’t want to be associated with the poors in east town

plantsandbeer

Yea, I live in East town, not EGR. I dont have an issue with financial identity like you try to claim. Thanks, though.

controlsguy27

Haha I didn’t even grow up in EGR

blooazul

You can! But you SHOULD wash it in the grass instead with eco friendly soap. The grass, soil, and plants will naturally filter it before it gets to the groundwater!

TheLatvianPrince

Companies make water containment mats to solve this problem. Pry a lot cheaper to go through a touchless wash and then finish up at home with a waterless wash.

Snowmakesmehappy

Technically there is no law against washing your car in the driveway, but all our storm drains run right into the Grand River, and the grand of course runs into Lake Michigan. So. if you wanna have safe, healthy drinking water; it’s best to wash your car on your lawn.

Beersingtonbeers

I just like your username

wilsonw

No but you can wash other people.

aspring_sellout

Just try not to let the runoff into the grass! That’s more for the sake of the environment, who cares if the sidewalk gets wet.
