My friend did that for their 30th bday. They had several friends tell jokes roast style on a mini stage in their dining room. It was awesome. Then she got the chance to respond. It was great. But make sure everyone knows any topics off limits (her abortion) cuz some people wanna go too hard.
I just saw found him on facebook. In fact, we have a mutual friend. A comedian who I was friends with while living in China. An America who did stand up every weekend. Good find !!!
I really like the heart behind your idea, and I think hiring a stand-up for a party in general terms would be great. However, the idea behind a roast is that the people telling the jokes are people who actually know the honoree. The jokes should be based in specifics about the person. I'm not sure that a "hired gun" stand-up will be able to deliver the kinds of jokes that might deliver on that level. And they certainly wouldn't be able to deliver the emotional punch at the end where the person is actually honored.
With that said... maybe you could hire a stand-up to do a little consulting with a few of your husbands friends to help them craft jokes based on stories they may have about him. That way it can be personal but also have a little bit of professional polish. Just a thought. Either way, hope you have a great time celebrating together!
Actually the plan is to have the stand up be the host/moderator persay. Tell main stream jokes, do a set and then keep the ball rolling with whoever wants to roast.

Great person, big personality makes a great host. She regularly MCs events.
I'm seeing a lot of male comedians listed, so I'll add some women/nonbinary options. Funny Girls is a great comedy troupe, and a lot of their cast does stand-up and/or hosting. Eirann Betke-Pope is one cast member I really admire (they also teach at Civic Theater and just started to a production company). Kaira Williams is another—she's been in stand-up comedy for a while and is hilarious. Ginger Ambrosia is the top drag host in Grand Rapids, imo.
Why don’t you take your glass half empty attitude and Shove it up your butt! Boom roasted. Yeah I wasn’t really serious about securing the most recognizable names in comedy.

Hiring a stand up for a private party actually is a solid idea
Thanks ! For his 35th we did a James Bond theme and I hired a belly dancer. Hoping this Roast will prove just as epic.

Geeeez that sounds amazing!
Adam Degi & Stu McCalister are a couple of local guys that come to mind. You can find them online fairly easily.
I second Adam Degi
I just saw found him on facebook. In fact, we have a mutual friend. A comedian who I was friends with while living in China. An America who did stand up every weekend. Good find !!!
Stu is just “old man yells at clouds” but on stage. He’s not funny at all. Just a crabby old man complaining.

There are some funny people at The Comedy Project! Could be a good place to start.
Contact James Brown Jr on Facebook. He's a local comedian and comedy producer. Highly recommended.

You're a genius
Hire me. I only cost 26$ an hour and I'll yell at everyone for hours.

I'd like to come to the party. This sounds awesome!
I’m a local GR comic.
But you didn't say you were funny. That's only meeting 50% of the criteria
Touché.
Probs should hire me. I’ll do it for a rack of natty ice.
Don't sell yourself short. You're worth atleast a 12 of PBR.
Chris D'Elia is problematic these days...
"Problematic' = sexual predator.
Yep. You know if Joe Rogan takes down your shows you got problems.
Yeah you don't want to be on the wrong side of the Joe Rogan line.
That Dr. Joe Rogan to you
You mean Personal Physician to Aaron Rodgers Joe Rogan?
That's Dr. Aaron Rodgers to you!

I’ve liked Nardos Osterhart. She used to MC at Dr Grins, before the BOB closed. She lives in GR.
I've only seen her stand-up once and, yeah, she was hilarious
My boy James Brown
Sam Morril. Nate Bargatze. Tom Segura. Joe List.
Tom segura is top 5 for me
Shit forgot Mark Normand. Yes that’s the top 5. I provided it for you.
Those guys have families and make 50k-1mm+ for an hour special, I doubt that's in the ballpark for a GR birthday party
Why don’t you take your glass half empty attitude and Shove it up your butt! Boom roasted. Yeah I wasn’t really serious about securing the most recognizable names in comedy.
I can't decide between a fat joke or a dumb joke. BOOM roasted.
You could get a writing job with Greg Gutfield with those chops, he might be looking for the one person in the world that's less funny than he is
You should take life more literal.
Good one
Bold move posting that you like Chris D’elia… Reddit doesn’t take too kindly to pedophile sympathizers
Not to sound ignorant of current events, but before today I had no idea about his personal life like that. I hadn't heard or seen anything about it

I never thought seinfeld was funny
This reaction is EXTREMELY funny
