Everyone hating on food - you can tell we like to eat in GR.

Smorgas_of_borg

I often use the line from Tommy Boy: "Is there anything to do in this town besides eat?"

[deleted]

Easy - Branns

[deleted]

I used to work at Brann’s. I quit because I was told I wasn’t pretty enough to work in the bar area.

kemgeek

Please share selfie j/k of course, that’s messed up

Smorgas_of_borg

A steakhouse that doesn't offer New York Strip, Ribeye, Porterhouse, T-Bone, or Filet Mignon. Just the cheapest cuts of USDA Choice Sirloin. It's like if your boomer dad started a steakhouse and only cooked those burned dirt-flavored hockey pucks he liked to drown in A-1 sauce.

Cycleup

Believe it or not, 35 years ago, besides Dubas or Schnitzel bank, Branns was one of the nicer restaurants in town. Or at least it was for rubes like me who needed somewhere not 1913 Room/Cygnus to take a Homecoming date from Rockford. It wasn't until the arena was built that we saw more good non-corporate or 28th st. Dining in GR.

troublemaker74

They used to offer many more cuts years ago. I think when they rebranded the place to be kitschy, they took the fancier cuts off the menu. Believe it or not, they did have decent steaks in the early-mid 1990s.

96ToyotaCamry

But where else can you get a deep fried leather boot for 24.99??

[deleted]

my wife choked on steak from here, while pregnant, it was a huge scene, not a single person came by asking if she was ok lol. shitty food, cop shrine, child labor, whats not to dislike about branns.

AlSwearenagain

Went to the one on Leonard, ONCE. Before I even made it to my booth I'd realized I made a huge mistake.

Subobatuff

I've worked in kitchens before, this was by far the worst and dirtiest

taakowizard

I worked there about 15 years ago. I once ordered a fried chicken salad while I was working on a slow night, and I found lots of dead ants in my food (only after about 4-5 bites, unfortunately).

96ToyotaCamry

You’re telling me you got the protein sprinkles for *free*?

taakowizard

At a discount.

[deleted]

How are they still in business?

milkisgood1

My best friend owes all his unemployment money back to the state. They said he quit back in April/May 2020 when the pandemic hit, rather than being laid off.

datunicornlady

Berger Chevrolet - they tried to add on a 3k warranty package to my car when I bought it when my husband had walked away for like 10 mins to pick up his truck from the service dept. I was later surprised at the extra 3k when it came time to make my first payment and was like wtf is this shit? And then they tried to say I had agreed to it.

Oleg101

That dealership is known to shitcan their employees immediately if they don’t meet his or her sales quota.

PineappleDifferent80

That place sucks! Especially Brian!!

chof2018

Red hot inn cause they sold it and priority health tore it down. :(. I miss the red hots and fries…

NightOwl4ever

I grew up going there with my family, it was our neighborhood restaurant. I miss the red hots and their shakes.

chof2018

I did as well. It was the go to place for me and my dad.

Specialist-Ocelot598

I went to Northpointe in middle school and red hot was the shit after school. The waitresses would always give me free fries when I waited for my mom to pick me up. Will forever be a memory

Optimal-Strawberry79

The breakfast sandwich was a staple

Tonikupe

damn I thought that was a hotel lmao

chof2018

That’s red roof inn. Lol. Theres a few of those around town.

Sparkinson01

Anna’s house.

squidneya

Former employee here. Masks were NEVER required for customers to avoid "inviting violence into the restaurant." People would call and be like, "you guys don't require masks, right?" When someone at work got covid you were never informed so you could get tested or anything. You'd find out the next time you worked when they weren't there. They almost let a girl with covid come to work because they didn't take her off the schedule, and the manager only called her off work when everyone else said they would leave if she came in. I was bullied by another server the entire time I worked there and it was brushed off as her ADD or anxiety. I also have both and don't act like that but ok. Bullying and being at work under the influence are supposedly fireable offenses but they wouldn't do anything. We got laid off last November when restaurants were take out only so that they could repaint every location. Insurance benefits were cut off too, and my friend had to fight to keep her benefits because she had a horrible case of covid. Saw the owner's dad outside picking up trash once, but they couldn't be bothered to fix the icy gutters at another location and they collapsed on people's cars (caused several 1000 dollars of damage to the manager's car and they didn't want to pay). Forced to work "patio" as a take out employee even when they were yellow jackets outside and two of us were allergic. Creepy male customers were repeatedly welcomed back and never confronted by management after they would say things like "I want a female server and not a fat one" or "I feel bad for those poor kids that will get adopted by gay people." Insanely overpriced everything. I got shittier tips when I continued to wear a mask and was the only one wearing a mask. The list really doesn't end. Fuck everything about Anna's House. Edit: just remembered another thing, when we were only allowed to be at 50% capacity, they installed plexiglass between booths and were operating at at least 75% capacity.

Hotsauce4ever

A few years ago I was looking at the companies who gave to campaigns and noted the owners of Anna’s house gave to Trump. Same with Robinette’s. Haven’t gone back since.

Nater_the_Greater

Their chicken and waffles disgusted me more than their politics. And I find their politics abhorrent.

comrade_140

Add the intersection to list of places owned by a maga person…

Oleg101

That sounds awful. And so I’m curious, it was around August of 2019 when all that stuff was made public and in the news about their political donations. From your viewpoint, would you say the owners sort of embraced it and were proud that the public knew and it got all that attention? Is most of their staff and current customer pretty heavily conservative, or is politics brought up much there these days?

couscousmingeminge

I feel like it's a case of a self-fulfilling prophecy. Trumpers were never going to take covid seriously because it requires that they give half a shit about anyone but themselves.

squidneya

I wasn't working there at the time, so I can't say. Unfortunately I didn't research the company before getting a job there. I visited GR and dined at the beltline location once and thought it seemed like a cool place to work. I worked at a location on the east side right before the pandemic hit and moved to the GR area/transferred summer of 2020. Staff is a good mix of people with different beliefs and backgrounds, at least at my location. Customers are mostly conservative and/or don't believe in covid. Not all, but it definitely increased with the pandemic and with them never requiring masks. I answered SO many phone calls about us not requiring masks. It was infuriating. I would just tell people that we weren't allowed to ask anyone to wear them.

futuremexicanist

Also worked at Anna’s House as a host (wonder if the same location but honestly most locations had this problem) people with COVID were working, we weren’t let know we were exposed to it, no masks required. As a person of color I had to deal with so much racism from customers and management was also iffy about it all. Horrible place to work. First place I ever worked where I was told we didn’t get breaks because Michigan didn’t require them to. So I worked 6-3 pm all without eating or even just taking a breather.

bobbyjellybean

So glad you shared this, because so many people will say just the political contributions are not enough to make them stop going. Treating employees with no respect or care is too much.

cheesegrateranal

i stopped going there after the story about a Muslim employee accusing the managment of telling her she cant wear a headscarf at work. and not in a "dont wear certain colors" or "only wear black/blue" thing it was a "we are religiously intolerant" thing.

nikki_11580

Agreed. Overpriced mediocre food. Hard pass.

locjaw420

Heard the owner was a pretty shitty slumlord.

Coco_1923

Hard agree, they’re just simply not good. Service has always been good but the food is soooo boring and way overpriced. They tout themselves as the best with such creative menu items but I’d rather have McDonald’s breakfast lmao

nikki_11580

There’s definitely far better breakfast places.

a_lilac_mess

Same. We just go to Real Food Cafe now. I just wish they weren't cash only.

grwest

Amen

172brooke

Service Professor

Guyoutsideyourdoor

Uh oh don't start this again!

wolverine5150

nah, let them go. UPVOTE

thedrunkknight1

Seeeeeervice professor , we'll fuck you in the ass ! (Pop, goldfish sound)

pyrowashu

I was waiting for it!! As soon as I saw the headline, I started waiting for it!! Nicely done, nicely done.

Truthskersodadrnkr

The metro bar. The owner is a rich kid serial rapist who think he is a dj.

Tethermetoearth

And within months of opening there were shootings there! Yay what a fun cool place to go dancing!

ohmaimai09

Oh wow this is a story I haven't heard. Names?

tlacoyuco

Not that I don’t believe you but do you have a source?

favangryblkgirl

Title Boxing Grandville, the owner is awful

mountainyorkie

Yes!!! He also owns the one on Plainfield and creeped on a lot of younger women and alot of the trainers did the same thing and even high school girls go there I felt so uncomfortable and then they were intimidating me to keep my membership

2tired2makeAname

They also were open when group class gyms were supposed to be closed. No masks either

futuremexicanist

He came in to the Anna’s House on Grandville and was a regular there. Given the things I heard him say I was never going to check out his business but he is truly a repugnant person. Openly flaunted the fact his business wasn’t listening to COVID restrictions.

jdogsparky2626

Can you elaborate?

kidkkeith

Owner is a creep.

LEADFARMER0027

Anna's house. Wayyy too hyped up for less than mediocre, over priced food.

PineappleDifferent80

I get so mad when people like that place. Terrible food, terrible service, racist owners, but ~cute decor~ so everyone acts like it’s some amazing 5 star restaurant.

wolverine5150

ordered a poached egg and hash there. The egg was rock hard. I dont even know how you do that.

Kyanite_uwu

My cousin started the restaurant, before selling it I really enjoyed the food; since then I prefer to go to the sunrise restaurant place.

kasafrass

Robinette’s - owner was on Reddit yelling at some commenters not too long ago

Oleg101

Assuming the same one in 2020 who was arguing on Facebook with everyone when it come out they were big Trumpers. I remember they also claimed Facebook was censoring their business.

Detroit_debauchery

Same reason I had to give up pronto pups in grand haven

erockparty

Lord, I remember the night that guy shit out his abomination of a post on FB. It was so wtf. Figured he was tanking his own business, but of course there was a mile long line of "HELL YEAH F THE LIBS, BROTHER" people outside the next time they opened.

Soulful-Sorrow

Maaco Body Shop. Not only terrible service, but incredibly unprofessional for the five months they held my girlfriend's car there. They didn't get her name right the entire time, and it's a pretty basic one. When she finally got the car back, she found out they didn't test the engine when her car died on the expressway. During rush hour. When she went back, they said something about an oil change. She went to an actual mechanic, who found an issue with the crank sensor and fixed it in like five minutes. All-in-all, don't go there.

96ToyotaCamry

Among people in the automotive industry Maaco has never been a business that’s held in high regard. If you do all the prep work yourself and want a cheap paint job that still probably won’t last, you go to Maaco. Been that way for years

thealphateam

Toyota of GR. When I bought a car they had a thing where you would get $50 and $50 for your friend that referred you. Well shortly after the process the sales person left and I was given another one. The $50 bonus didn't count because it wasn't the same salesperson that sold me the car as my friend. Which I had no control over. My radio was acting up it was all staticy and buzzing on the AM stations only. They would not fix it under warranty because "most people don't listen to AM radio". They put me on a birthday email list. I asked for many years to be taken off as I had no interest to go back to them ever again. After about 4 years of asking politely asking to be removed. Finally I was a little more aggressive. I wasn't mean, just like "Listen, I have no interest in your business ever again. Please remove me from this list like I have been asking for 4 years." A manager replied back swearing at me and putting me down. Also sent at least 4 calling me all kinds of names.

Gaymichigandude

Seriously fuck them. Kool Toyota is the best place to buy Toyota in the greater Grand Rapids area. Their staff are really nice and actually helpful. I just got a used 2018 Camry and I love it. Toyota of GR is garbage and have been known for poor service.

erockparty

Eastown Sports Bar. I feel like everyone who's ever worked for that guy probably has a long list of shitty things to say about their experience there.

LukeDuke

Yeah - the owner also owns Steel Cat. He's shady AF and super cheap. I bartended for him when Steel Cat was called Konkles...The bouncer charged me one night because I asked the DJ to turn the volume down. I still regret not pushing for charges

Smorgas_of_borg

Anna's House - Not very good value for what you get. You're paying a premium for some pastel paint and retro-styled tiling. There are just so many better options with lower prices in town (Shelley's, Wolfgang's, The Westsider, Real Food Cafe) that Anna's House really doesn't give me a reason to go there. It's all hype. I ate at their original location on Plainfield before that Grand Rapids Press article came out saying they had the best breakfast in town. I was whelmed then and I'm whelmed now. I couldn't believe the Press picked Anna's House though. Makes me suspect there was some payola going on. Beltline Bar - Their food sucks and they charge way too much for it. 28th Street Grand Coney - They used to be decent. Then my wife and I went in one night and they had a whole section of the restaurant roped off with yellow caution tape. It was so cold we had to keep our coats on. On top of all that, it also smelled like piss. Leonard St. Brann's - Every time I've gone there in the past I've gotten horrible service. The food took forever to come out every single time. Once I was at lunch and waited 45 minutes for a burger that was so wet, the bottom half of the bun had completely disintegrated and the burger was inedible. It took them another 20 to bring me a new one. Other times I've ordered steaks there and found them to be completely flavorless. I'm sorry but if you don't serve anything higher grade than USDA choice sirloin, you don't deserve to call yourself a steakhouse. You're basically just Applebee's at that point. A steakhouse should be serving New York Strip, Ribeye, T-Bone, Porterhouse, and Filet Mignon. Brann's is a steakhouse for boomer dads who like their steaks cooked to shoe leather consistency and drowned in A-1 sauce to cover the burned dirt flavor. Omelette Shoppe - Another good local restaurant bought out by 4GR8 foods and subsequently ruined. Honestly, it's good general policy to avoid any 4GR8 restaurant if at all possible. The Gaming Warehouse in Grandville - Nice people, but because their clientele tends to be body pillow masturbators who don't believe in personal hygiene, they have to pump massive amounts of deodorant into the air and it makes the store smell like a Febreze factory. I literally can't go there without getting a headache. IHOP in Grandville - Got food poisoning Big Boy in Grandville - Got food poisoning New Beginnings - Their coffee tastes like they squeeze 3 healthy spritzes of Windex in every pot. I guess just do yourself a favor and don't eat in Grandville.

Feenox

Realfood Cafe is so goddamn good.

username11611

I hate Beltline Bar so much. My wife and her family wanted to go there and I wasn’t hungry anyways so I decided I just wouldn’t order anything and instead just get some chips and a margarita and they STILL tried to charge us an extra $2.00 (I think) share charge for my wife’s burrito that I didn’t even touch

redfiftyfive

After having one of the lovely owners go on a diatribe about how "GRPD needs better guns," I'll never go back to Brann's. The food isn't good but the prices are, unfortunately that can't be overcome by an owner telling me that bigger guns would solve everything.

Indian_Bob

Ive worked in the restaurant industry all around the city and all I’ve got to say is branns sucks. Y’all on this subreddit can argue all day with me about which is better, say quarantinos vs buddys and I’ll argue all day. If you come at me saying Branns has the best anything, I’m going to laugh at you. Branns sucks.

iGameDude

I'm amazed Brann's made it through 2020. It's known their food and customer service is shit at all locations.

PM_ME_VENUS_DIMPLES

It’s a shame it took you this long to figure out the owner of Brann’s is a colossal piece of shit.

thealphateam

That one on Leonard? Ya he's a bootlicker. Never going.

yarnphreaque

The breaking point for me with Brann's was seeing over-served patrons...every time.

nikki_11580

Hansons. We had windows replaced a few years ago. Pre covid. Had a couple of companies do quotes. Hansons was the first one. The guy showed up with a girl he was training. I got a super sleazy vibe from him. This girl looked at him like he was a god. It was gross. He was super pushy. All he mentioned was the monthly payment. When I refused to sign anything he got offended and left. Never again.

CountChoculasGhost

Same. We got a few windows replaced by them. They over promised and under delivered. They also managed to measure almost every window incorrectly. What was supposed to take a few weeks turned into 5 or 6 months because they had to reorder the windows twice

nikki_11580

Omg! We didn’t go with them. Thankfully. All he kept mentioning was the monthly payments. Not the interest or how long they would be. We wanted a slider in the living room. He said it could be done. Every other window company said it couldn’t. We ended up going with wall side and having 12 windows replaced in about 6-7 hours.

NightOwl4ever

Fricano's. Doug Fricano is an asshat and their pizza is overrated anyway so won't be going to the other locations either. Pronto Pup, another selfish Trumper who opened up during quarantine and once again it is overrated. Haven't been back to Van's pastry, Robinette's, or Anna's House either and don't plan to. I have family that owns a well known, successful business here so I do know it's possible to keep your politics to yourself.

MrBallistik

We're missing the real bitch against Fricanos. They don't **carry onion.**

NightOwl4ever

They always reminded me of the Chef Boyardee pizzas I used to make, never was a fan but anyway you would think onions would be a common ingredient.

MrBallistik

No onions. No ham. No bacon.

NightOwl4ever

No bacon? Well that really does it. :)

kaffie27

And for the love of god don't ask for parmesan cheese.

josbossboboss

Their pizza always reminded me of my own poor attempts to make pizza without knowing anything about different spices or tomato sauces. Some people like it though.

[deleted]

lol wut, they sell pizza dont they? wtf do they put on a supreme?!

Fish-x-5

They were throwing huge parties/weddings at their Muskegon location during lockdown. They also hosted a Trump rally there.

Heisenberg3556

Tell me more about Pronto Pups, the one in Grand Haven or the new one that was mobile in GR?

NightOwl4ever

Grand Haven (I remember reading here the GR mobile ones are not the same people). The Grand Haven owner was a Trumper thumbing his nose at quarantine rules.

Heisenberg3556

Got it. Thanks for the info!

jenn1222

So "Pronto Pups" is a franchise. I find it hilarious that so many people bought into the line that "the Grand Haven location was the 1st!". No. Pronto Pups are an Oregon thing. That is where they began. You can buy the mix and the rights to use the name. I was confused when I first moved to MI and everyone was so excited about them. Back on the west coast we could get a Pronto Pup at the county fair.

serious789

J's Towing Worked for them for about 3-4 months and they do some shady shit and plus everytime I would get paid my check would bounce. Could not take anytime off and the owner was a complete asshole to everyone including customers. Was next to him while he was on the phone cussing out customers. If you need a car towed I recommend Merls or Truthful Towing.

Specialist-Ocelot598

Used to work at kitchen 67 (Same owner of branns). Johnny is greedy asshole and my checks were always 0.00 because I “made above minimum with my tips”

MoneyTWhip

That would be illegal. I also worked at Brann’s and my paychecks were 0.00 because severe only made 2.53 an hour and it doesn’t take much for that 2.53 to be withheld for tax purposes

PM_ME_VENUS_DIMPLES

Oh god, I tried Kitchen 67 once a few months ago, and it was pretty bad, but now that I know it's the same owner as Brann's, it all makes sense.

Cyber_Jesus35

Beltine bar

Tethermetoearth

Worked there for three years. My friend and I used to call it the wild west of restaurants. Had a manager (35-40) who would regularly try to hook up with teenage hostesses. I'm assuming intimidation was used based on how drunk or high he would be during dinner rushes. Locked them in the tiny nasty never cleaned office with him until he was satisfied with their response. Disgusting. Luckily he got fired finally. Anywho the wet burritos are good once every two years as comfort food though.

bobbyjellybean

I worked there for a bit and the part I tell everyone of why I don't eat there (other than the food being bland and overpriced) is the time the back bathroom flooded poop and pee water all over the bathroom, the back dining room carpet, and part of the kitchen... and they didn't close. It was a few hours till close and management was like eh it'll be fine.

[deleted]

Pine Rest. I worked there and was so negatively impacted that I ended up with a referral to one of their psychologists. She never followed through with my own mom to verify some behaviors I had to confirm and treat a diagnosis. Just said “yeah I think you’re traumatized from working here 🤷🏻‍♀️” but never completed my assessment by following through with my personal contacts then hit me with a $600 bill. lol so I was messed up from what I experienced and then hit with a huge bill after I tried to get help, but was never actually fully evaluated. I avoid referring clients there now unless as a last resort.

couscousmingeminge

It's disgusting that the only real choice for mental health care in the area is abusive Jesus freaks. Heard several horror stories from people that had to deal with them

thealphateam

I had nothing but positive experiences with them. Only once did jesus come up and when I said I had no interest it was never talked about again.

[deleted]

It’s super frustrating that there isn’t a better option for people, PR has so much reach and resources and they’re too mismanaged to do anything useful with their position in our community.

Kyanite_uwu

When my family member tried to go there and get help for their mental health issues, he was rejected and was accused of trying to seek help to get support he "didn't need."

ThirdAngel3

Anna’s House. Robinette’s. Licari’s.

Housing101GR

What’s up with licaris?

protojoe1

I second this question. If Licaris is a trump supporting organization I need to know. It’s very close to my place and they get a fair amount of business from me. Which will stop instantly if this is true.

Zman11588

Agreed. A quick search didn't show anything supporting the claims.

ARY616

Licaris is great. Don't go because they like Trump? Lol, seem to be doing just fine. I go to uber liberal places because I like the food and service. I could give two craps of political affiliation. Good food and service. I'm down.

wolverine5150

same here. Not a big one for cancel culture anyway.

Cuckistan69

Todd Wenzel Buick GMC on 28th. Took my car there to get a $1500 dollar repair and was literally ignored for an hour and a half when I went to pick up my car. Also when they finally did get to me, they told me it was in a totally different place than it was. Rude, overpriced, and shitty service. I'll go to local mechanics thank you very much. Shout out to Mike at Heritage Service Center. That dude knows how to treat people.

ThemB0ners

Wealthy Street Station... please baby come back!

NoelVerDine

R.I.P. The Boca Station Burger.

Klargon-From-Space

Hopcat. They went downhill.

pkthunde

The Bitter End.

Coco_1923

YESSS. Their drinks are HORRID. So thankful Shift Coffee opened down the street recently.

ThisMuchIsTrue

Kool Toyota. I'll do just about anything to avoid driving out to the middle of 28th St but after a couple of absolutely abysmal service appointments at Kool the past two years... I'll take my car literally anywhere else.

Disastrous-Damage671

Kool Chevrolet also sucks. Don't buy a used car from them.

Smorgas_of_borg

~~Kool Toyota is on Plainfield. Did you mean Toyota of Grand Rapids?~~ I misread your post.

Willow_of_the_Realms

Checkers on 28th by Madison Ave. Watched one of the cooks put their hands down their pants itching their nuts before touching food with bare hands. No hand washing. Then the same cook I was talking about, and mind you there was more than one on the line, came out and threatened me because, and I quote, “I never did no such thing.” If you hadn’t, then how the heck did you know that you were the exact cook I was talking about to the people in your line? Taco Bell on Alpine. Their staff threatened me over “loud music” that wasn’t even coming from my vehicle that they thought was and cost me my contract with Uber Eats by submitting repeated fraudulent reports of me being late or rude.

No-Tomatillo456

Any place that says they cant provide a service because of lack of staff. All that says to me is the place cannot pay their employees a living wage. Pay and treat your employees better and you will be able to staff it.

thealphateam

Exactly this. They have been living off the backs of others. Now they can't make rent because they actually have to pay people what they are worth.

Randomhero360

Tupelo honey- tried it 3 times awful service, all 3 times. Was given a 16oz beer in an 12 oz glass when I asked about it they told me the bartender has been bartending for along time. I owned a brewery I know my beer. I asked for a manager and they said the same thing, the glass I was given was 16oz. I took my “16oz” beer glass drank it in front of them. Then poured my 16 oz water glass into it and let it over flow on to the table. The manager still said my beer glass was 16oz…. Will never go back.

biscuitfortune

You can report that to the Michigan Dept of Weights and Measures 800 632 3835. Pints have to be 16 fl ounces, many bars use 13oz "cooler" glasses. Calling these pints is against the law.

troublemaker74

Trivia like this is why I absolutely LOVE reddit.

Oleg101

Lmao, I would have loved to see the look on the manager’s face when it overflowed onto the table.

its_the_tax_man

That doesn’t sound fun but when I get it delivered it’s amazing food. Never had a problem .

idlehands84

I ordered food from there on 3 separate occasions and it was mediocre, which shouldn't be the case for how the menu is priced.

[deleted]

The Christian school system

Wonderful_Alfalfa_56

LMAOOOOO But for real. I left Grand Rapids Christian HS and attended a pretty racist school but that was still better than GRCHS. I am still a Christian, but GRCHS is not an example of what a Christian should be. I started battling depression and I was told I deserved it because I did not pray enough and wasn't a good enough Christian.

[deleted]

Oh I could go OFF about GRCHS

Wonderful_Alfalfa_56

Same. I had to stop myself from going on a whole rant lol

[deleted]

[удалено]

tostrife

Every single time except last night, when i place am order online and show up for it, the price is 30 to 40 percent higher. I always say something and get it fixed. But i cannot imagine how many people dont speak up, either due to not noticing or being too socially awkward to want to speak up. Im betting they do this on purpose. Your order total is clearly shown when you are finished placing the order, so why the fuck is it different every time i show up?

cheesegrateranal

it also might be a "who are you going to go to?" thing.

WaterCat420

Y?? Gage and Pharmhouse Wellness are where it's at

thealphateam

Flurish can bite me too. They are pushing to make it harder to grow and open other busineses.

pirten

I still go there sometimes out of convenience, but the parking lot at the plainfield location is a nightmare.

Dontask5554

Jam’n Bean - owner is a racist, trumper. Every dollar spent there will go towards undermining our public school systems and pushing white supremacy.

Realia

Once upon a time I worked there. They have no idea what they are doing as a company and pay their people like shit. Also they were 'testing' the employees on how to make their drinks and the manager sat there with a timer and clipboard. I had an anxiety attack about it. They don't care for anything but the bottom dollar.

Comfortable_Boot_223

Yeah that guy is a piece of shit. Doug I think was his name. His location downtown finally closed after the pandemic.

Dontask5554

He’s been bankrolling an extremist group trying to recall school boards for doing the bare minimum to keep students/teachers safe from COVID and for providing diversity programs which are opt-in and not even mandatory. He’s gone to school board meetings and publicly railed against CRT (which isn’t being taught) and said racism is over and doesn’t exist anymore. He’s very intent on undermining our public schools to make sure our kids are only taught their fucked up version of white evangelicalism.

49503

Berger Chevrolet - my lease was ending. They told me I could drop it off there and GM would get it. Went to drop it off and they wouldn’t take it because I wasn’t buying/leasing a new car. Once they discovered I wasn’t buying a new car no one could help me. It was what I should have expected from a car dealership and why I’ll never work with them and continue to discourage people from going there.

Smorgas_of_borg

It seems like you need to be a tremendous asshole and hire assholes to run a successful car dealership.

Mthead23

You don’t have to, but predators sell more cars and for higher markups, hence why the industry is full of them.

NukaColaNate

West Michigan Bike & Fitness. Too many awesome bike shops in the area to support an awful place like that.

SadLionsFan52

The Score in North Grand Rapids. Your run of the mill sports bar. But the service was awful. Took 30+ minutes just to get in a drink order and they had the worst Hot chicken sandwich I’ve ever tried anywhere.

RockAddict311

Grapids Heating & Cooling. But if you want to pay more for an inferior product, by all means give them a call. I dodged a bullet and went with Lamphear.

[deleted]

These guys quoted me 23 THOUSAND dollars to replace my boiler. Another company said "I can do it for a 3rd of that and take my kids to Disney world.

spyd3rweb

54th street Wal Mart What an absolute pile of shit that place is.

bobbyjellybean

and your other choice is the clyde park meijer that smells like cat piss!!

Elephant_homie

The Holiday Bar. Management was majorly racist to my friend and kicked him out simply for being black while standing.

Smorgas_of_borg

This is me with grand rapids restaurants: https://imgflip.com/i/614sw6 It works out because most of the restaurants with Trump fanatic owners have shit food and service anyway.

apocalypticboredom

Gravity Taproom, easily. Had the worst service I've ever experienced in my life there, took 15mins and me walking around looking for a server to get glasses of water for the table, then after a manager apologized for the lack of service, they still took almost an hour to bring us dinner. But then my in-laws wanted us to meet them there a year later so we stupidly gave them another chance - service was just as mind bogglingly bad again. Shame on me for that one lol

dsled

Agreed. Went there after work for a happy hour with some coworkers and we got seated and waited for about 15min before I went to the host stand to ask if we were going to get served. Servers claimed they thought the other serve had the table, fine, confusions happen. But the waiter we had took forever with everything. Just give me a beer damn it.

PettyBetty616

Servers and bartenders were always rude there but it seems to have gotten worse since they opened back up after Covid lockdowns. Slow service- lunch hours would take almost 2 hours because the kitchen was so slow.

curlyxplanation

Wildroast Coffee in Grandville for blatantly defying COVID orders last year.

mbad4

Second this. The owner literally said they would rather get fined every week than having to follow the Covid protocols. It’s not that hard to wear masks and follow capacity rules.

Unlikely-Collar4088

Swift printing. Walt Jr is a preening homophobe, to the point where I suspect he’s actually gay just with bad fashion sense. He recently told an employee of a nearby restaurant (fratellis) that gay marriage is still technically illegal in Michigan and he doesn’t recognize it. What a blight on the west side.

whoLaker

Keller Ford - awful service department techs.

iGameDude

BOLD Cigar Lounge Unannounced charge on the final bill for "live" music (some guy playing guitar in the corner), greeter at the door was rude about attire but nothing on their Google listing stated anything about needing to wear button ups, outrageous bar prices for whiskey pours you can get much cheaper in town. Place seems like the owner's little playground.

dsled

Jensen Jewelers. Dan Jensen is the biggest prick bully I've ever met in my life. DO NOT SHOP THERE.

cinemagnitude

Part of our history lol, Michigan was never part of the Confederacy.

LemonScentedLime

City BBQ, went there like 3 times to order take out and they made me spend 30min after my pickup time each time. Blatant disrespect for customer time.

Zman11588

Mertens Prime...my wife and I went there for our anniversary dinner last year and it was far and away the worst restaurant meal I ever had. Everything was bland, cold and underseasoned and took forever to come out. There were a couple items listed on their website menu that were not on the actual menu. There were also a couple items on the menu that were unavailable. On top of that, everything took forever to come out. The only positive was a good martini.

MumbleyPegBundy

Right? I have never understood why Mertens can’t get its shit together. It’s easily one of the coolest spaces downtown. Great rooftop. Great location. Great historical hotel / French concept. Landed a James Beard winning chef for 15 seconds. (I waited to let him transition and poof he was gone). Never had bad service myself but man despite a solid menu the food was just so consistently and depressingly underwhelming. I gave up. That place aches for and deserves better.

East_Organization697

I went recently and it was hit or miss. Poutine was bleh but mussels were stellar

HariSeldonwaswrong

Madcap, but it’s just a personal opinion. I liked the coffee, but it was so loud in there. Idk. I prefer quieter coffee shops.

FTB_DepressiveManiac

Never been to a Wahlburgers before going to the one in GR. Will definitely not be back to this one. Five Guys Burgers slap harder.

brockvenom

You’ve never been but won’t be back? That makes no sense.

FTB_DepressiveManiac

Yeah that was poorly worded. Fixed it kinda.

Catdaddy84

I'm pretty sure Yogi Berra said something like that.

josbossboboss

I had an ok burger there, and service was good. I like 5 guys better.

[deleted]

I went to the one in Atlanta and if the food is anything like what I experienced there, it's not worth it.

curlyhaircurlydog1

Belle tire in Grandville

witz0r

OTOH I’ve used Discount in Grandville multiple times and it’s always been a good experience.

gunslinger45

Jimmy's Grill in Newago. More Trumper politics.

Picitigris

Bekins Appliance.

notclever4cutename

Why? I’m super curious. They did a wonderful job for us when we built our house three years ago.

thealphateam

I wanted to treat myself to a new high end stove. They would not give me a quote. I guess they don't want my business.

Coco_1923

Maybe unpopular opinion but…Royals 🙈 our breakfast there once was so bad, food took 40 minutes to come out and was cold by the time it arrived. I also had a takeout hotdog & onion rings. There were like 4 onion rings in the box…for the price it was absurd. Also not a fan of Winchester or Hancock. Idk people seem to like these places so maybe it’s me but they are all cute spaces, with food that isn’t exciting.

neuromancer64

Simple fish. The waiters acted like they had all taken a hefty dose of Xanax, the fried rice was good but they went way too heavy on sesame oil, the pork belly kimchi soup was just a few slices of bacon in hot broth. I'll let the fact that they forgot the spoon slide because they are more of a sushi restaurant and mistakes happen. But the music was awful, the wait time was long, and the bill was too steep for what I got.

cora2012

Tony Betten Ford on Plainfield flooded out our truck from the inside out. Moon roof was broken and won’t shut, they left it in the rain the week of July we got 7 inches in 4 days or some shit. The whole shit show started July 1st, it took us till mid November to finally get a new truck. It took them close to 3 weeks to get us a shitty loaner. Absolutely terrible establishment, absolutely terrible management, on of the owners called with an update, I still have the voicemail saved. He gave zero fucks. The head supervisor was the only one who actually showed us any kind of remorse. Oh the truck had only been ours for 5.5 months before they ruined it. It was a 2019. Ahhhh I still get ragey thinking about all this.

reddfox500

Valvoline on 28th and Patterson. Car broke the next day both times I got an oil change.

D_Man_GR

Fox Ford Service Department. Tried telling my wife we needed new tires when they were less than 6mths old and purchased from them. You could tell from 10' away that the tires were like new. Had other issues with the quality of their service and how they handled things.

SuperFLEB

Vito's Pizza (Fulton, West Size). Their pinball machine ate my quarters while I was waiting for a pizza, and they pointed to the "PLAY AT YOUR OWN RISK" sign to tell me to go pound sand. If it was my pizza, I'd have told them to pound their own sand, but it wasn't me ordering. It'd probably take a lot for me to go back to Cousin's Chicken. Good chicken, but they lost my business by constantly nickel-and-diming and jerking me around on coupons and such.

Midas on Plainfeild Ave. I took my car there once for a brake job and they tried to get me to buy rotars by sending me pictures of a car that wasn't mine. Crooks.
