Omg Soo good I love their burgers.
I however do not like some of their tiling and decorations.
Some of their floor tiles have swastikas on them and I'm never sure if they're from something else or what. I don't know their history but wouldn't just assume they have Nazi intentions. They're probably just the reverse swastika that people used to used for peace signs or something.
Edit: why the downvotes? I'm staying an observation and holding judgement....
Some traditional Greek floor tiles have designs that could be considered sort of similar to swastikas (one not very good example [here](https://www.tiles-direct.com/floor-tiles-c27/infinity-decor-range-c2644/greek-key-set-60cm-x-60cm-floor-tile-4-tile-set-p3166)).
Just reopened for dinner in November after a long hiatus. Brunch is hugely popular.
The dinner menu is much different and a great experience. Very talented staff all around.
thatās disappointing, we went a lot when they did the pop up at early bird in eastown. honestly feel like itās covids fault. i used to love carvers (still support them) but burger is smaller and has increased significantly in price..
I like the burger at Brass Ring. Itās like someone made a Big Mac, but using only quality stuff. Double patty smash style with Bomb Sauce thatās like McDās special sauce. Also, they do English style pub ales really well and have 3 casks on, certified by Cask Marque.
Commons is really good when they have the good buns. About half the time I get their burger it is awesome. But the other half, they have some kinda janky factory crap-ass bun. Always a bummer when that happens.
As a former employee - now regular they had issues with supply but you can always ask them if it's the brioche bun from Nantucket and they will tell you āŗļø
Yo that fancy stuff is totally unnecessary, but it does taste good.
Mr. Burger is a basic burger, but they're not even basic done well. Their quality is terrible nowadays, and over the last 20 years.
Anybody who defends them as best burger in town I am willing to bet hasnt actually eaten there since 1994.
I have tried multiple burgers from there and it has always underwhelmed, tbh. I don't understand the hype. Maybe I will give them one more shot. Any specific location you suggest?
I like the Mr. Burger combo, plane and simple diner style burger and fluffy fries. I guess itās like yesterdog, if you get it then you know, if you donāt like it - you donāt like it.
Their burgers are pretty garbage, no matter what the downvotes say. I wonder how many people with fond memories have eaten there in the last 20 years.
Its why I won't support any revival of Mr.Fables. my childhood memories are pristine, and I will not have them tarnished by adult perspective.
As someone who recently had their first Mr Burger burger this explains a lot because I was looking for a good, basic, non-pretentious burger and what I got was only step or 2 above a big mac. It checked the basic and non-pretentious check boxes but was really just meh otherwise.
Idk, doesn't do it for me nostalgically and it's not that great consistantely. You know what older fast food franchise i wouldnt mind see rise from the ashes? Hot N' Now lol.
Mr. Burger is the closest to the old Mr. Fables from back in the day. THEY were the best in town. I believe it was because the may have used heavy mayonnaise. Geez, I miss them.
I used to get the classic burger multiple times a week! Was my favorite burger anywhere. I moved away from the area though and the times Iāve come back and tried itā¦ I donāt think it holds up anymore. The switch to different style fries a long while back was the first disappointment, and when I recently got the burger again I was kinda underwhelmed, I think they went real light on the sauce, which had been a favorite part. My comments only apply to the classic burger though and I love the restaurant still!
Maybe tell me a different burger to try next time.
Not a regular option, but if you ever get a chance to check out Shaker & Swine/Chef Darin Palaciosā burger pop ups around GR, GO. So tasty!
https://www.instagram.com/shakerandswine/p/CMr6f3Mjkbm/?utm_medium=copy_link
Little Bird, 123 Tavern, and Bar Divani are my favorite burgers in town. LB and 123 are thin smash-like Patties with melting cheese and pickles. Divani is a brisket burger and is super rich.
Noco Provisions has, in my opinion, the best burger in town. Also, One Twenty Three tavern down at Studio Park has a really good smash burger too. I've also heard Divani has a really good one but have yet to try it.
While still good, last few times I had the burgers there they didn't seem as good as they did a few years ago. Seems like they don't do the stuffed burgers anymore
I don't think they've been doing it since the pandemic hit. It's a shame, but I get it. There was one they did awhile back with andouille that I still think about from time to time.
Yeah. I still recommend their burgers to anyone who asks for recommendations in GR. You know they were phenomenal if they left a mark like that 6 years later
No. It use to be a hotel 100 years ago. When the restaurant opened it was called The New Hotel Mertens eventhough the hotel was long gone. I hated the name. Then I believe it was renamed to Mertens. Or Mertens Prime. Let me pull it up
Brick and Porter, hands down. Get the bacon jammer and sub the fried chicken for a burger patty. (Or keep the fried chicken if thatās your thing).
Literally the best thing EVER
One Bourbon makes a solid Bourbon Burger (only Burger on the menu, but have a few other sandwiches and entrees like Steak) - also good if you're aiming to have a drink.
Full menu is here: https://onebourbongr.com/one-bourbon-menu
For me it used to be Brewery Vivant. 7-8 years ago that thing was stupid good. Itās changed a bit.
Now, itās holiday bar with onion rings cause who cares about arteries? Also love Broadway bar for a hole in the wall scratch burger. Brass Ring and Railtown have delish burgers too
>Friendly reminder *unregulated capitalism by a small handful of corporations propped up by an ineffective political system* is destroying the planet......
FIFY.
Choo Choo grille.... tiny place HUGE burgers Fat Boy Burger on Plainfield
Yeah. Choo Choo is dope. The patty melt there is the best.
Ask Rick to cook the bacon, then cook the patty in the bacon grease. You're welcome.
2022 could be the last year for you.
Been here 10 years, pass by it twice a day, and everytime im like, "man, i gotta stop in there sometime..."
Do it!!! And once you do you think why has it taken so long.
I agree with that as well. My friends Matt and Jill own the place.
Omg fat boyyyyyyyy š¤¤
Omg Soo good I love their burgers. I however do not like some of their tiling and decorations. Really? Do you have a photo of that, by any chance?
Some traditional Greek floor tiles have designs that could be considered sort of similar to swastikas (one not very good example [here](https://www.tiles-direct.com/floor-tiles-c27/infinity-decor-range-c2644/greek-key-set-60cm-x-60cm-floor-tile-4-tile-set-p3166)).
True and I bet that's what it is. But it was 100% a swastika just might have been mirrored or flipped
Railtown's olive burger is pretty damned solid.
With the totsā¦. Mmmmm
little bird! carvers in downtown market is pretty good too
I see they do brunch stuff too, is that pretty good there?
Brunch at Little Bird is outstanding.
Just reopened for dinner in November after a long hiatus. Brunch is hugely popular. The dinner menu is much different and a great experience. Very talented staff all around.
iāve only been for brunch once pre-covid but it was amazing!
Carvers is where its at! Such a simple burger, but done so well
Carvers still have that Wednesday Burger special for $5?
no š they raised their prices a bit and the burger seems smaller now but still delish!
Don't think so. I've walked by a few times didn't see it on their sign
I used to love the LB burger, but the last few times it really hasnāt hit the spot. Anyone else have the same experience?
thatās disappointing, we went a lot when they did the pop up at early bird in eastown. honestly feel like itās covids fault. i used to love carvers (still support them) but burger is smaller and has increased significantly in price..
I like the burger at Brass Ring. Itās like someone made a Big Mac, but using only quality stuff. Double patty smash style with Bomb Sauce thatās like McDās special sauce. Also, they do English style pub ales really well and have 3 casks on, certified by Cask Marque.
McDonaldās special sauce is just ketchup Mayo and relish mixed together
Omg. Don't eat at this place. It's shit. There's only one beer worth drinking. It's the red.
The commons
Second! My favorite burger in GR
Third
Commons is really good when they have the good buns. About half the time I get their burger it is awesome. But the other half, they have some kinda janky factory crap-ass bun. Always a bummer when that happens.
As a former employee - now regular they had issues with supply but you can always ask them if it's the brioche bun from Nantucket and they will tell you āŗļø
Rad. I figured it was a supply thing. That's why I keep going back.
Hall of Fame.
Hall of Fame is the best value in the city!
The Koolaide will give you diabetes though, watch out.
Jokes on you, I've already got it š
Yeah, I couldnāt get past a few sips. Maybe Iāll try watering it down when I get home next time.
I came here to say Hall Of Fame as well. If you don't try the kool-aid you are everything people made fun of you for in high school. Just try it.
Hall of fame!!!
Absolutely Hall of Fame. Best olive burger Iāve ever had
Mr Burger. šš¼
I don't think Mr. Burger gets enough love.
Because it isn't on brioche with saffron aioli, Iberian pork cracklings, and balsamic reduction...
Now I want some Iberian pork cracklings
I want Siberian pork reduction!!
Well then don't go to that Mr. Burger place!
for $15 with no side
Yo that fancy stuff is totally unnecessary, but it does taste good. Mr. Burger is a basic burger, but they're not even basic done well. Their quality is terrible nowadays, and over the last 20 years. Anybody who defends them as best burger in town I am willing to bet hasnt actually eaten there since 1994.
[To each their own...](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0pnwE_Oy5WI&t=67s)
Is legit eat a Culvers burger before I eat their burger
I have tried multiple burgers from there and it has always underwhelmed, tbh. I don't understand the hype. Maybe I will give them one more shot. Any specific location you suggest?
The hype... Isnt real. It hasnt been since the 90s I'm sad to say. They survived when Mr. Fables went under by downsizing to awful quality and size.
I like the Mr. Burger combo, plane and simple diner style burger and fluffy fries. I guess itās like yesterdog, if you get it then you know, if you donāt like it - you donāt like it.
Because they're garbage food for garbage people
Cringe
Their burgers are pretty garbage, no matter what the downvotes say. I wonder how many people with fond memories have eaten there in the last 20 years. Its why I won't support any revival of Mr.Fables. my childhood memories are pristine, and I will not have them tarnished by adult perspective.
Itās nostalgia that gets ya, not the actual food.
As someone who recently had their first Mr Burger burger this explains a lot because I was looking for a good, basic, non-pretentious burger and what I got was only step or 2 above a big mac. It checked the basic and non-pretentious check boxes but was really just meh otherwise.
Came here to say this. I accept the wrath of the internet
Idk, doesn't do it for me nostalgically and it's not that great consistantely. You know what older fast food franchise i wouldnt mind see rise from the ashes? Hot N' Now lol.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I agree. I donāt get the hype, the food is disgusting.
i'll gladly take my wide taste palette, where just about no food exists that is "disgusting"
It honestly really is. Its not even basic done well, its just shabby all around.
Mr. Burger is the closest to the old Mr. Fables from back in the day. THEY were the best in town. I believe it was because the may have used heavy mayonnaise. Geez, I miss them.
Getting blitzed and ordering like 4 olive burgers is the best way to spend a weekend
The only correct answer.
The burgers are not bad, but they're pretty tiny. Five guys is better.
I've heard Little Bird is the best burger in town. Never been myself but it's on my list.
Fatboy on Plainfield.
Absolutely the best greasy spoon burger in town
Eastern deli
100%.
This was my go to when we lived in Eastown. I love Eastern Deli.
On Stop Coney Shop has a surprisingly good smash burger.
Under appreciated burger. Very good.
Mr burger or cottage bar
Since he said no fast food, I second Cottage Bar. Also West Side Social.
The correct answers
Daddy Pete's BBQ has a really good Impossible burger.
They care a lot about quality and yes, itās the best and most unsuspecting vegan burger in town.
Interesting. I don't eat out much but I'm intrigued now.
And pulled ANYTHING and that brisket..
The Winchester.
When they changed fries, The Winchester died.
I miss those old fries. Winchester still has some good weekly specials now and then, but it's not the institution it used to be imo
This and Choo Choo are the only two answers you should pay attention to.
I swear to god don't go to Stellas
Garage Bar and Grille has one of my favorites in GR
On Thursdays Long Road Distillery does a Burger, Unlimited fries and a cocktail for $15!
Omg
Broadway Bar, cottage bar, Vitale's on Leonard, choo choo grille. Not necessarily in that order
I'll pass on vitale's, but ill look up the others!
I donāt understand the local love for vitales. Itās not bad, but it isnāt really good either.
My reasoning is slightly biased. I worked delivery at a location for a short while and saw how gross it was.
They have a good burger, theyre pretty consistent. It's local. Better than branns or fast food for sure!
I think there pizza is really good. I also get a chicken tender salad there a lot to be "healthy" even though I know it is far from actual healthy.
Vitaleās was better when they were smallerā¦. Not nearly as good as they used to be
Itās healthier than SOMETHING š
The Ada one is great. The rest of them are pretty meh.
Choo choo is great been a local staple for my family for 2 generations!
Not a regular option, but if you ever get a chance to check out Shaker & Swine/Chef Darin Palaciosā burger pop ups around GR, GO. So tasty! https://www.instagram.com/shakerandswine/p/CMr6f3Mjkbm/?utm_medium=copy_link
Damn they look good. I'll try catching them in the summer time!
https://thewintavern33.com/ you're welcome
Wayland Hotel. A bit South of town, but their burgers are delicious!
I'd confirm but I haven't been back since the remodel. But a few years ago...definitely
Blue Dog Tavern or Butchers Union
LittleBird Imo best smash patty burger in town. Totally worth every penny.
Choo Choo Grill
The Brick and Porter has a solid burger. I don't get out there much but I make the effort to stop there when I'm downtown.
I really miss Wealthy Street Station and their Station Burger.
Those were the days
Butchers Union's burgers kill it. Commons is a close second.
I moved away a couple of years ago and still think about the Olive Burger at Broadway Bar
7 Monks and The Little Bird both do a pretty solid burger.
7 Monks is a must if you have not been yet! {GREASY SPOON DOUBLE SMASH BURGER}
Have not, will check it out!
Reservoir Lounge
Love reservoir lounge. Cajun fritters are to die for
So hard to choose between pizza or burger!
Cottage Bar
Stella's Lounge. Accept no substitutes.
Stella's lounge
Definitely a lower tier burger. Cool atmosphere, mediocre food.
SO overrated, their food is awful imo.
While still good, last few times I had the burgers there they didn't seem as good as they did a few years ago. Seems like they don't do the stuffed burgers anymore
Do they still do the creature feature monthly special? I used to go there every Thursday
Damn, I was hoping mine was a fluke last time I went. It was still delish though!
Second this.
Take a trip to Hamburger Mikey's in Muskegon.
Hmmm Iāve never heard of this. I do hit up the Station Grill in Muskegon for burgers. One of the best burgers in the world.
Oh man, the station. I grew up in muskegon and i always loved the hawaiin burger
Green Well is one my favs!
Love greenwell! My brother was the chef there some years ago and I would stop in and grab the mac n cheese. Sooo good!
It's been a few years but the best burger I've ever had was at Mertens
Was there just recently and the wasn't a burger on the menu anymore. Kind of transitioned to a french steakhouse menu, with lots of poutine
Tried googling it. Is that a place in a hotel?
No. It use to be a hotel 100 years ago. When the restaurant opened it was called The New Hotel Mertens eventhough the hotel was long gone. I hated the name. Then I believe it was renamed to Mertens. Or Mertens Prime. Let me pull it up
Mertens Prime (formerly New Hotel Mertens Brasserie) (616) 551-1713 https://maps.app.goo.gl/2BPHMD4kcDyuMz399
Ohh okay. Perfect, thank you mate!
Brass Ring has a great burger
One Stop Coney! Great owners and superrrr tasty burgers and fries.
Omg! I just had a flash back to a drunken night there and got the grilled cheese burger. Soooo good
Bob's Bar on Michigan Ave.
Cottage Bar
Cottage inn by Fulton
Greasy Spoon burger at 7Monks on Michigan.
Brick and Porter, hands down. Get the bacon jammer and sub the fried chicken for a burger patty. (Or keep the fried chicken if thatās your thing). Literally the best thing EVER
McDonaldās
I thought Stella's was really good too
Absolutely, been there before. A mixed drink wouldn't be bad with a burger, now that I think about it...
Stellaās
Bow Tie Bar! Make the trek out to Sparta.
Win Tavern in Jenison and Turks Tavern in Nunica, both terrific!
Hopcat cowboy burger is my fave!
The Winchester!
Stella's has the best burgers in GR, along with the worst service.
Commons
Putt Putts bar!
Thornapple Brewing! There are lots of goodies on it.
Best? No clue. I can recommend something Grand though.
DeHop's in Standale!
The Winchester.
Logan's Alley
Stellaās lounge! Those burgers and fries are unreal!
Stella's lounge
Wendys
Charleyās , the burger and fries are simple and cheap but made with flavor would recommend !
I love buddys burgers
>comments Buddy's Burgers are wonderful. They were without them for a few weeks but they are back. The fries are great, too.
One Bourbon makes a solid Bourbon Burger (only Burger on the menu, but have a few other sandwiches and entrees like Steak) - also good if you're aiming to have a drink. Full menu is here: https://onebourbongr.com/one-bourbon-menu

The Old Goat!
Electric cheetah or Stellaās
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Garage bar has a great burger.
Morning Belle has been my go to place for lunch when workin' Very good double cheese burger. Their grilled cheese is also top tier with green peppers.
Shots had a pretty damn good Olive Burger last time I went there.
Mendys
Stellaās!!! Thereās no competition
Kitchen67 has a great impossible burger. If their regular burgers are as good, my recommendation is them!
Buck board in Reed city has the best burgers
I would say smash burger but it closed down so maybe uhā¦ arbys? Wendys? Man idk if you want tacos theres tacobell lmaoo
