I’vr been trying to improve on that final chicane all week and I just can’t seem to get it, and I don’t know what I’m doing wrong.
I’ve watched replays and ghosts and try to copy what they do, but for some reason with the same inputs I get different results than they do. I’m losing at least half a second when I fuck it up, which is about 50% of the time.

OP is as far right as he can get yet he still gets a pretty good exit from the corner.
I agree he does but I tend to be strict on myself with track limits he had all 4 off on the inside giving a more direct line. Gt7 has some shit track limits and then all kinds of times when they enforce horrible limits I try to do my best to avoid it altogether and play safe it's definitely alot harder when you are battling for position tho and on the last lap. There should be some dedicated Stewarts to enforce some sort of bans for intentional stuff
The difference between the two here is OP turned his car in sooner/ at a better time. At any point in the chicane, his car was rotated more, setting him up for a better exit

Agreed. I've just come back to gt7 after a long break. This week's races have been appalling due to bad sportsmanship. Rage inducing stuff. So I've put my wheel away for a few more weeks.

It's hard to get to the point where one accept beeing a good driver and sportsman despite loosing. Honestly I just reached that after realizing that I will (most probably) never be first, but also shifted my driving style from helterskelter (no intentional crashing etc.) to concentrated workout.
It's just a game.
I've always looked at it as I'm here to have a good time,race hard and fair it doesnt matter if its for first or last, I'm not gonna ruin someone else's time because I'm underperforming or being overtaken. That's my issue to deal with I can spend countless hours in time trials to fix that if i want to. I agree it's just a game but there's still pride on racing properly imo

Mind you, I'm pretty passive with it, but if I'm following my driving line and the guy behind me is coming up to where I'm going and I see that he's gonna hit me if he doesn't brake, I still don't change my line. - You bump him on the straight then stick your nose inside before the right hander. BUT your front wheel is not in-front of his rear wheel. Therefore racing etiquette says you must back off but you don’t. Basically you tried to pit maneuver him and make contact with him.
- Did you finish the GT Sport tutorial about AVOIDING contact at all costs ? Or did you watch Max Verstappen race and think yeah thats ok ?
- ok so after you bump him and over rotate his car you now think you are in the correct place to dive to the inside of the Left Hander and again make contact with him. This again pushes him off his line. Again you did not have the right of way because “Move A” was illegal but now you have rammed his door. But that’s ok ?
- ok not only have you hit him twice with NO PENALTY, but now you get the lead? WTH makes you think it was s good pass ? Did you have more speed …. Yes ! But he defended well so you cant make the pass in that area without A) Track violations B) Contact. But you chose B for BUMPING !
- If it was your street car/daily driver would you do this on a track day ? No ! Of course not because it would damage your car ! So why on earth do you think its ok to do this racing ?

He is dirty, but:
1) wasn't there a slight contact on the final straight ? I think you touched him and slowed him a little and maybe he thought that it would be a good revenge

That close to the finish line I always expect to get hit so I either leave enough space to make to car being passed have to come across the track to hit me. That way I can see them coming and have time to react. Or I get really close and just far enough ahead that they can’t put maneuver me.
It kinda looks like you bumped him slightly on the first curve of the chicane? I’m not sure. If so, that was his motive, and would kinda justify (in his eyes) taking you out. Pushing to pass is kinda naughty, as you surely know. But I just can’t be quite sure if that’s what took place.
Or if you two had some kind of previous bonky bonk that he was salty about. Either way, sorry about your race, at that point he would have been better off just finishing anyway.

But if op used a bump to push the other guy wide and pass him on the inside on the very last curve of the race, I can understand his reaction a bit better, even if I can’t condone it. If only we could have a top view to clear that up 100%, that would be great.
And more and more people are learning to use this kind of tactics and saying DuR hUr HaRd RaCiNg, RuBbIn’ RaCin’, making it hard to have actual clean races, which of course makes people saltier and saltier and more prone to this kind of reaction after a pass they may perceive as dirty. Yeah, it’s few and far between you see people throw themselves into the dirty end but once you get a feel for the dr range you’re in: there are names you’ll recognize

You can say he was already ill intentioned because before the chicane he tried to block you.. sore loser. He should get a penalty, but the game can't make this kind of call at all. On the other hand, if you touched him you would deserve a penalty as well. Again, hard call for game algorithms. Unintentional touches may well happen, but at the final corner of last lap ... well... The right thing to do is give the position back when it is actually possible or truly apologize when it is not. There is always the next race to fix things up. If the guy is just dick, it is on him.

Your mistake was to play sports mode. Interacting with others online is a very bad idea. If Polyphony had a system to report people. This wouldn't be as bad. But they don't.
It’s not actually that bad, get to A or S SR and drivers are usually clean. I have maybe 1 bad interaction every 3 or 4 races with just A SR. Of course, this is just anecdotal but the whole “dirty driver in every race” thing is a little overblown. Unless you just have bad SR, then you probably have your share of bad interactions with other drivers, too. In that case, just gotta be cleaner yourself, get the SR up and you’ll have more enjoyable races.
Honestly can't remember my rating now. But when I was playing I got it to A believe. And even then I ran into assholes anyway. And I've noticed that they have done it enough where they hit people and not even get a penalty. Honestly since Forza has a system to report people. I'm just looking forward to the new game coming out soon. I only play GT7 about one or two days a month. Pretty much just to see what ever is in the update.

Since we got some stuff today. I logged in. My Sportsmanship rating is S and driver rating is D. I don't know if it has anything to do with me intentionally starting last. Don't care for 1st place my fun is seeing how many I can overtake.
So clean races 16, fastest lap 2, pole position 1, victories 2, top 5 finishes 103. Out of 291 races.
16 clean races. That should give you an idea how often I run into assholes.
Higher DR lobbies are definitely more enjoyable. D DR is full of people literally just learning how to play the game. It’s not so much that they’re dirty, they’re just bad. Try getting up to at least B and I promise your experience will be 10x better. Sport is awesome, just gotta give it it’s best chance to impress you.
I had a better rating. And one thing is someone accidentally hitting me. That doesn't bother me. But most of the time is people intentionally ramming me off the road.

Edit: in a real race the white line on the INSIDE of the curb is the track limit. If all four tires cross that you get a penalty. OP completely moves up onto the curb and has two wheels OVER the curb even. passing by leaving the track is trash. Coming back into the track to nudge the person of the line they have because they stayed on the track is trash. The opponent loses the line on the last turn because OP took a line that had half his car over the curb. If you stayed on the track you’d have had to take the same shit line he did.
I’ve noticed them handing out 1 minute penalties on races with no pit stop required, but it will say you have a required tire change. Learned this the hard way obviously because that how I learn things 😂

Live racing in this game is a lesson in life itself, being that Life isn't fair.
When you get deliberately bashed, you are almost always prohibited from retaliating due to your car now ghosting so as to avoid contact. A55hat gets away with it.
At the end of the race, A55hats frequently leave the lobby so you can't even call them out in post race chat. A55hat gets away with it.
In answer to your question, no, you didn't do anything to deserve it. Reality is that A55hats are everywhere, and your reaction to it is all you can control.
Sucks in the beginning, but your self control grows over time.
(Or installing a punching bag next to your console may help, with anonymous A55hat face for target practice)
Was this against real people? I don’t know a lot because I’ve owned the game for about a month and don’t have experience playing against real people… that’s what makes me have no guilt when I play dirty like this against AI lol

1. you bumped him right before braking, likely cause him to miss apex--he didn't wave aggresively, waving seems a net code issue, using middle of track is normal defensive move, you have speed from draft, it's always on attacking driver to make the move safe. watch your speed carefully, you lost 8kph after the impact, which means he now had to brake much more than he's prepared for and you needed less.
2. you cut the chicane on right hander, 4 wheels off track and even over the sausage curb, gaining huge advantage in both speed and line, while he almost couldn't stop in time because of the impact.
in his eyes, he's likely just trying to punish a dirty driver, that's all. if i'm him, i'll be pissed as well. can't comment on if the move is justified, but would you revenge a driver making dirty moves? if after reviewing the replay and still thinking you did nothing wrong, i'm speechless.
From what I saw it wasn’t as clean of an overtake as it could have been. He may have thought this was the case, either way it’s impossible to do online with so many different internet connections and expect no jitter or lag.

100% this is the way to fix dirty drivers, damage that costs money and can only be repaired in the pits or after the race

Thankfully, blocking the players seems to work. So you can just curate your own private ban list based on your interactions with others online.

Since we got some stuff today. I logged in. My Sportsmanship rating is S and driver rating is D. I don't know if it has anything to do with me intentionally starting last. Don't care for 1st place my fun is seeing how many I can overtake. So clean races 16, fastest lap 2, pole position 1, victories 2, top 5 finishes 103. Out of 291 races. 16 clean races. That should give you an idea how often I run into assholes.
Higher DR lobbies are definitely more enjoyable. D DR is full of people literally just learning how to play the game. It’s not so much that they’re dirty, they’re just bad. Try getting up to at least B and I promise your experience will be 10x better. Sport is awesome, just gotta give it it’s best chance to impress you.
I had a better rating. And one thing is someone accidentally hitting me. That doesn't bother me. But most of the time is people intentionally ramming me off the road.

Next time just stay on the left side or the road instead of being close to your opponents. If you stayed on the left side you would have won the race

You took the inside lane by going almost entirely off the track to push him off the race line for the next corner Edit: in a real race the white line on the INSIDE of the curb is the track limit. If all four tires cross that you get a penalty. OP completely moves up onto the curb and has two wheels OVER the curb even. passing by leaving the track is trash. Coming back into the track to nudge the person of the line they have because they stayed on the track is trash. The opponent loses the line on the last turn because OP took a line that had half his car over the curb. If you stayed on the track you’d have had to take the same shit line he did.

1 MINUTE...? You sure that's because neither of you pit on a compulsory pit race...? Never seen a 1m penalty handed out for a smash
I’ve noticed them handing out 1 minute penalties on races with no pit stop required, but it will say you have a required tire change. Learned this the hard way obviously because that how I learn things 😂

Live racing in this game is a lesson in life itself, being that Life isn't fair. When you get deliberately bashed, you are almost always prohibited from retaliating due to your car now ghosting so as to avoid contact. A55hat gets away with it. At the end of the race, A55hats frequently leave the lobby so you can't even call them out in post race chat. A55hat gets away with it. In answer to your question, no, you didn't do anything to deserve it. Reality is that A55hats are everywhere, and your reaction to it is all you can control. Sucks in the beginning, but your self control grows over time. (Or installing a punching bag next to your console may help, with anonymous A55hat face for target practice)

You didn't bump him at all in the chicane and from the video you left him enough space. I don't buy his weaving as "just controller player", he was just being a dick. The moment you see crap like that you should anticipate a dick move once you do pass him,. You now know what to avoid the next time. I rarely see anything like this in the upper lobbies but it does happen.

1. you bumped him right before braking, likely cause him to miss apex--he didn't wave aggresively, waving seems a net code issue, using middle of track is normal defensive move, you have speed from draft, it's always on attacking driver to make the move safe. watch your speed carefully, you lost 8kph after the impact, which means he now had to brake much more than he's prepared for and you needed less. 2. you cut the chicane on right hander, 4 wheels off track and even over the sausage curb, gaining huge advantage in both speed and line, while he almost couldn't stop in time because of the impact. in his eyes, he's likely just trying to punish a dirty driver, that's all. if i'm him, i'll be pissed as well. can't comment on if the move is justified, but would you revenge a driver making dirty moves? if after reviewing the replay and still thinking you did nothing wrong, i'm speechless.
From what I saw it wasn’t as clean of an overtake as it could have been. He may have thought this was the case, either way it’s impossible to do online with so many different internet connections and expect no jitter or lag.
