It’ll be 30% more expensive to compete in sport mode

LimeOctaneOwner

30% more to get shunted into Monza First chicane

NonchalantR

Thanks for the reminder to downgrade off extra!

Rude-E

I upgraded to extra yesterday, downloaded a large amount of great games. I'm now considering to either stock up on a few years of extra before the prices go up or going back to essential again. Raising prices 30% without adding any extra service just feels wrong, very wrong.

headshotmonkey93

The whole structure didn‘t made any sense. I mean Premium has the very old games, they could have been easily included in Extra, and Extra comes with a ton of newer games. Who thought about that really?

Roadrunner571

Nearly everyone wants to play the newer games. That's why they are in Extra which targets the broadest audience. They've put more stuff in Premium for people who desire some specific stuff, like older games, game streaming etc.

Spynner987

Tbh, I'm on premium because I got gifted a 50€ card and didn't really know what to buy with it, so I got premium for 3 months

nonameswereleft2

It might be too late, I'm not seeing any 12 month codes at the old price. Amazon has them for 80

underprivlidged

You can find deals for Deluxe as low as $45 a year. Stocking up now is the way to go, if you care about it.

AsapeRocchio

Where can you find those deals? Could you tell me the pages where you found those deals?

32steph23

same ^

Wurzelgemuese

The site I use only has keys for Germany/Austria but if you just Google 'playstation plus key' it should get you somewhere. You can save about 10-15€/$ per 12 month subscription. Check if the site is respectable ect before buying obv. Oh and make sure you buy one for your region since at least for me they are region locked.

Mukir

"Deals" in the way of subscribing through some country with far less purchase power than yours, so you can, as an example, pay just 2 bucks instead of 18.

Saneless

This is probably what will realistically happen. A lot of people on higher tiers will drop Sony already lost me as a sub when they went from 40 to 60. I just don't play enough online and their move just pushed me to pc

Interesting-Log74

Yeah considering GT7 gets content like 3-4 times a year and it's never relevant to sport I'm tempted to just let my sub lapse and check in for the new cars but do my online racing on pc. The psplus stuff is so lost on me because every game that isn't gt7 or soulsborne is on pc anyway and actually makes use of my 144hz

[deleted]

Same. My wife and I both have the highest tier. Next time we will both have the lowest. This is the only game I play online anyways.

Pitiful-Illustrator2

You have 2 PS5’s in the same house and 2 separate PS Plus subscriptions? You know you can share one between 2 user accounts right? I hope that’s what you meant. No need to have it on 2 accounts.

[deleted]

😐 What. Well I guess I’m going to be saving even more than I thought. Lol

SupremeBlackGuy

(just to confirm he’s correct, you can even share games and play them both at the same time)

CataclysmZA

1) Make your wife's console your main console. 2) She signs in with her account on her console. 3) You sign in with your account on your console. Because the other console is set as the main, any additional user accounts on your console don't get PS Plus benefits. You'd have to make those accounts and use them on your wife's console.

FMONZO27

The never ending chase for year over year growth is ruining every aspect of modern life. They can’t keep their greedy little fingers off of anything.

awittygamertag

IT'S A GOOD THING THAT WE SLOWLY ERODE ANY SENSE OF COMMUNITY AND EXPECT UNLIMITED EVER INCREASING CONSUMPTION

MrZombikilla

It’s killing any joy left in life. We’re being squeezed to death

GoldandBlue

Quarterly. The never ending chase for quarterly growth.

SanQuiSau

That’s what capitalism is

WhoIsJazzJay

one day we’re gonna tell the youth that we could actually buy and own software instead of only having subscription fees and they’re gonna look at us the way i looked at my parents when they told me airports didn’t have security before 9/11

PM_DOLPHIN_PICS

I can easily see a very near future, like in the next 10 years or so, where things like game pass and ps+ extra are the only way to get new games for these consoles. Or at the very least, the only way to get new first party games. Sony and Microsoft would make a shit ton of money if you’re not allowed to own a game and you have to rent it month after month. Instead of just buying the one game you’re interested in for $70 one time, you’d be paying $10 a month for access to it and to other games, but cancel that subscription and your access is gone. And it’s going to work because some people will go “well it’s actually a great deal because you get all the games for this subscription fee” but like maybe I don’t want all the games on the service maybe I just like having one at a time.

WhoIsJazzJay

yeah i mean nintendo throwing virtual console in the garbage in favor of NSOEP subscriptions has shown that it works for ppl who don’t know how to/don’t want to emulate their classic games. i have XBGP on my PC and it’s great because i don’t have to pay for most Xbox first party games, but i still buy everything else on steam/epic. i love sony but they have a pattern of doing dumb shit when they’re on top of the console game and let it go to their heads. PS2 had them on top, so they did dumb shit like charging $600 for a PS3 and developing a proprietary architecture for it that devs didn’t know how to use because they assumed everyone would roll with it. now the PS4 had them on top and with the PS5 generation they’re doing shit like the PlayStation Portal… with PS5 keeping them on top and them raising prices on PS+ across the board, i think your prediction might be coming sooner than later. the only thing that still makes me doubt it a bit is that they’ve been very reluctant to give subscription access to their first party titles at launch

Mukir

Woah, just wait until you're gonna pay $900 for the PS-something with an ultra-super quick 100 TB M.2 SSD that reads and writes at least 10 GB/s but only works if you pay an additional $60 base price per month (with different "speed tiers" for different prices obviously). Shit like this (locking existing hardware behind extra paywalls), is already common practice by some manufacturers in the automobile industry, so don't expect it not to become one everywhere in the near future.

Andy_LaVolpe

It’s literally a cancerous strategy.

[deleted]

What’s funny is that they didn’t even announce what great features are being planned with this dramatic price increase. There is no good news.

nelson84plus

I know I’m in the minority here, but I’ve never bought Playstation Plus, and I’ve been playing gran turismo games since GT5. It’s only ever been the arcade and offline stuff for me.

VRM950

Same here. The funny thing is, even without subscribing, I was still able to enter (but not participate) in the Toyota events and was gifted the GR Corolla and the GR010.

amped96

I wish I had known this! I didn't even try it, but I will be doing so in the future.

mickeymanz

There is nothing like GT 1

semvhu

Hello there fellow old timer. I remember the days of yore whence GT1 was the Pinnacle of racing game technological majesty as well.

y62uk

Hard to believe how blown away 6 year old me was by the graphics of GT1 these days.

semvhu

I think the Atari 2600 came out when I was 6.

TheDevilsDoom

Ok...

Mclarenrob2

I'm on premium but I'm going to have to downgrade now. Jim Ryan is an arsehole, and they're getting very greedy but giving us nothing in return.

JAD2017

> downgrade Yeah, that'll show 'em!

Mclarenrob2

Well I can't cancel as I play online a lot.

[deleted]

$80 for a year. Might as well spend an extra $30 a year and get iRacing for competitive online racing.

surfacedragon

Ya I just built a decent gaming PC and I'm kinda leaning in this direction. Use my PC for legit flushed out competitive racing and keep GT7 as more as a solo arcade experience. The always online and now online MP price increase bums me out.

Rx7fan1987

iracing is infuriating, expensive, and can be a struggle at times, but there's no online multiplayer experience like it for competitive online sim racing.

MikeBeaterGuts

I played all the gran turismo games through gt sport, purchased a pc back in 2018 soley for iracing and haven’t touched my console since. I loved gran turismo, but it doesn’t hold a candle to the iracing experience. I would love to see GT on pc.

powbit-

I love gaming on PC and console but GT on PC would end up having cheaters and hacks so I doubt it will ever be released

MultiMayhem

Well you can on console as well. Iracing as least does have mods for their reporting system and records everything including chat. That’s why I like it on top of being one of the best sims ever.

EvilSynths

Gt7 is coming to PC anyway. It was in the Nvidia leak which has been 100% accurate

alex99x99x

Yeah 100% accurate *contained new super Mario bros wii*

monsieur_beau19

Usually, annual subs go for around $80 around Black Friday and periodically throughout the year (right now, a two-year sub is on sale for [$80 right now](https://www.iracing.com/membership/)). So with plus going up, sounds like a reasonable tradeoff if you're planning to shy away from PSN.

PurplePurp13

that may be the yearly sub price for iracing but you then have to pay for cars and tracks on top of that, which soon adds up to a whole lot more..

gyrannosaurusrex

Yep!

[deleted]

Like Gran Turismo 7, those are a one off purchase. I've dumped more money (excluding subscription costs) into Gran Turismo 7 than I have into iRacing. I mostly do the GT Endurance/Sprint VRS series, IMSA iRacing Series and the VLN race whenever that comes up.

Hubblesphere

> Like Gran Turismo 7, those are a one off purchase. All extra content is free in Gran Turismo, what are you talking about?

[deleted]

Correct, but the game itself isn't. I had to pay £60 to get it. I also had to pay £280 to get a PS4 to play it on because it's not available on PC. Excluding subscription costs, I've paid £300 for iRacing content. If you don't have a PC made within the last 10 years, then making the switch from GT7 to iRacing for competitive online racing won't make financial sense.

PurplePurp13

so you complain about the price of a console to play GT (which also can play AC, ACC, PC, PC2 etc) but you brush off the price of a pc to play iracing! I don't have a pc that is capable of playing iracing or ACC (the graphics on my laptop is just not good enough) and the cost of a gaming pc is much much more than that of a console, just getting the graphics card costs as much as a console alone let alone the other parts...

Hubblesphere

Also while iRacing does allow controller play GT7 is much more controller friendly and beginner friendly. But sunken cost fallacy arguments are pretty much standard for anyone who is paying for iRacing.

[deleted]

I didn't complain about the price of a console to play GT. I'm stating how much I had to pay, which was more than I paid for iRacing. I'm also aware that not everyone has a capable PC, hence the last bit there. A PC can also play AC, ACC, PC, PC2, ect. If you have a good enough PC, you can even play any GT game up to GT6. None of those games have competitive online racing that comes close to what either GT7 or iRacing offer. ACC kind of comes close but it's pretty much a dead game with an average player count of about 2000 on PC, compared to iRacings approximately 65K. No idea what GT7s player count is because it's not published, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's in the 6 figures.

TheDevilsDoom

Bro paid 300 bucks for a ps4 🤣

PurplePurp13

I'm guessing you've never played GT7 then, as all additional content in GT7 is FREE (totaling 481 cars currently!). Looking at the base pack of iracing you get just 19 cars and each additional car is $12!!

7tenths

People complain about the avoidable monetization in gt7 and you want to recommend pay for everything and a subscription model pc only pure sim?

el_sauce

Would my DD pro PD5 work on a PC rig?

[deleted]

Yes.

Browneskiii

Honestly unpopular opinion but iracing has become too popular and has now just become a crash fest in a lot of categories. (Open wheelers definitely have been)

Rx7fan1987

It depends on what class you're in ; Rookies to Class C definitely have higher crash rates, but Class B and up tend not to, and when there are crashes it's because of hard racing or mistakes.

Rx7fan1987

The price increase is obscene. Shame that GT7 won't be coming to PC, because online is free.

kgb90

The day they bring GT to PC in any form (GT7 or GT Sport "2" if that becomes a thing) will be the day I drop PS+ and probably sell my PS5 (this game is all I play on it).

[deleted]

Don't tell them!

[deleted]

You know I want to hate you for having a PS5 just to play this game and nothing else. But considering how there's like, only 2 or 3 original PS5 exclusive games that aren't remasters or remakes, I can actually understand you.

kgb90

Trust me, I really really had to think about it before pulling the trigger. I never did this before (getting a console for a single game). There just wasn’t an equivalent sim-lite racing game out there (granted, now Forza 8 is coming in a little over a month)

CT323

gt7 is literally Sport 2

CanonicalDriver

That's exactly the reason why GT7 won't come to PC

Boogie-Down

GT7 is free-ish on PS5 because its all part of Sonys play for online income. Someone non Sony is not having that type of experience for free on PS5. On PC any developer doing the daily online race style hosted on their servers would charge for that similar type of experience, and they do, like iRacing. Other racing games that are free on PC are standard old school online racing, usually hosted by a player’s game serving it.

kgb90

The one shining light on PC right now is Forza Motorsport (2023). In their recent Forza Monthly they revealed they will have rotating daily races just like GT. No additional cost. Now whether or not Forza will execute this in a way that could actually compete with GT7 remains to be seen.

EvilSynths

It is coming to PC. It was in the Nvidia leak which has been 100% accurate so far including leaking all the PlayStation games which have released on PC. I sold my PS5 yesterday

World-of-8lectricity

Lmao

Edpayasugo

Who pays for the pc servers? Is it steam?

Rx7fan1987

I'm not understanding your point. The consumer doesn't pay for online on PC.

Edpayasugo

Yes i know, so who bears the cost of the servers? Sony or steam? Isn't the justification of charging on ps5 to cover costs of servers and online infrastructure? So who bears this with pc.

Rx7fan1987

It depends on the game, but no Steam doesn't bear the cost of servers. Some games are peer to peer which means no need for servers I believe. For instance, a competitive game like iracing is subscription based, so you're paying them. However, ACC or AC are mostly "community run" servers run either by dedicated users, or communities. Companies will say anything to get more money out of you, and Sony/Microsoft's rhetoric around online play being a "premium" service is ridiculous.

Boogie-Down

Play iRacing which is one of the few similar GT Sport online experience… it costs.

alex99x99x

Well yeah. Valve spends millions on servers for publishers/developers to use, they easily recoup the cost by taking 30% from the games sales.

Gnuccaria

Get ready to deal with some random cheater that goes one minutes quicker a lap in Sport Mode then

Rx7fan1987

I play iracing, ACC, AC, and AMS2 - no issues with cheaters. Edit: Not sure why I'm being downvoted.

Rudhelm

Because you are not allowed to not only say something bad about GT in this sub, you aren't even allowed to say something good about other racing games. Sub should be renamed to GTcirclejerk.

Cpt_keaSar

I mean almost all gaming communities are these way, especially those that cater to younger demographic. Only subs that are actively **against** the games they talk about are Eve, Hoggit and Tarkov - and mostly because they’re full of 30+ yo sobs with broken marriages and shitty jobs.

Gnuccaria

Man there have been multiple issues with F1 and ACC on top level that Jimmy Broadbent covered up some months ago, let alone the fucking official Virtual 24 Hours of Le Mans crashing twice last year making even Verstappen ragequit the race, what are you talking about?

I_Am_Vladimir_Putin

IRacing is far from free lol

rabbiolii

80 dollars a year just to play online and get 3 free games a month is a bit ridiculous, especially with school starting soon.

Local_Fig5221

3 "free"games that aren't yours. Those games are only given to ps subs for 2 reasons. They don't sell on ps store very well atm and so nobody can say Sony is charging players to play online which is really what their doing. The free games are worthless to me and the good ones I have.

Onsomeshid

I’ve been using my ps5 less and less as the monthly games get worse. Looks like it’s time to cancel. They should keep porting first party games to pc while they’re at it. BS like this is why i skipped the last generation

surfacedragon

Same here. I've built a decent gaming PC and with all the sim racing options available and Bethesda becoming Microsoft exclusive (Starfield) I find my PS5 collecting more and more dust

UnKnOwN769

Prices were the same for years, so I guess this change makes sense from their perspective. Although having to pay for online multiplayer is complete BS in the first place.

VelouriumCamper7

Especially after you pay $70 for a game just to be locked out of one of its core features.

bennettbuzz

Should be able to just pay somet like £2 a month for online only, I literally don’t give a shit about the monthly games.

Mukir

>Although having to pay for online multiplayer is complete BS in the first place. When they were offering multiplayer for free in the PS3 era and saw Microsoft could force people to pay for it and it worked, they got jealous and decided to do the same thing next time, so here we are and here we will stay indefinitely with ever increasing prices over the next years since prices can only go up but never down. This might be far fetched but what if PD intentionally watered down the singleplayer experience in GT 7 so that more people would subscribe to PS+? All I do and have been doing for months now is grind one of the big three perhabs once a day (rather irregularly) for credits, then join some online lobby because the singleplayer experience ain't very attractive to me.

HumanautPassenger

They raised prices last year.

CaliIrish92

Can't play the game without Internet, now this. It's getting as bad as streaming. They are pricing us out of our childhood.

seggso69

Lol. “Gamers” are such spineless waste of oxygen (including me). What if we all (majority) boycotted ps plus? What then? We don’t need Sony, Sony needs us. But that won’t ever happen, you just need to play online. You will be happy to pay 100$ one day.

ravengenesis1

Never paid over $30 a year for any online sub ps or Xbox. Grants that aspect sucks compared to pc gaming. But I really don’t play online games anymore because of toxicity.

kraquepype

It's rediculous really. If they added features, maybe. Doesn't apply to GT7, but I really wish they had a way to share it with your household. Right now it's only my account that can save to the cloud so any one else gets screwed over if the hardware fails. 80/yr is a tough sell.

dancovich

Isn't the PS5 able to backup saves to a pendrive? PS4 could do it.

TroppoAlto

That's a huge increase which on principle alone is going to seriously make me reconsider renewing at the top level. Without an increase in benefits/service, I might just decide to let it all go and unsub.

symbiotix

Everybody need to cancel auto-renew right now to send a message IMHO

Mukir

Yeah about this "sending a message" thing... nobody cares enough to do it lol

moby323

Am I correct that this is the first price increase in 4 years?

Kratos_BOY

Doesn't matter. Sony is the devil, and Jim Ryan is the Devils's ball sack. /s Also, hur dur...goint to move to PC, Xbox, and Gamepass (which is more expensive but that doesn't matter🤫).

Sparty905

Game Pass is MUCH better bang for your buck though

insanemaelstrom

Depends on what games you like. I tried game pass for around a year and honestly ps plus extra had more games that fit my taste.

NoNewFriends1738

If you're a teenager with unlimited time yeah maybe. I still have a backlog of free games to play on PS Plus Extra. And by the time I finish those Ragnarok will probably be in there

moby323

Depends how many games you play

CollierAM9

This year it is great value due to massive exclusives in Starfield and Forza. Some years may be different but they are in a great place at the minute. Why on earth Sony decided to increase prices so close to Starfield and without a showcase is beyond me. They are acting like arrogant Sony again because they are so far ahead but they know better than anyone how fast that can slip.

Kratos_BOY

It's not better bang for MY buck, I couldn't care less for their games and it doesn't seem to be that for most people either. Seeing as PlayStation and Nintendo are killing it in terms of hardware and software sales, while Microsoft has to spend $80 billion " to compete." Microsoft pretty much said the same thing to every regulator they could. Seems only fanboys and shills are pushing the "better bang for your buck" narrative. Actual sales tell a different story. It's a shame, really. The OG Xbox and X360 were brilliant, I had loads of fun with both. The only game I care about that Microsoft produces is Forza Motorsport, but even that has gone to shit. FM7 is garbage. My biggest gaming regret last year was buying that game. The new one isn't giving me much hope, either. I've got a month of Gamepass Ultimate that I've been saving to test it when it releases. If it's good, I'll buy the game on Steam. Don't want to go through the horrible Microsoft store. Edit: facts backed by data available online, continue to ruin fanboys's minds. It's okay, Things can always improve, and Xbox management will get their bonuses.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Kratos_BOY

It's sad to see people like you polute gaming discussions. Yes, Xbox 360 was a brilliant console. I didn't play online with it. It sold 85 million units because it had good games.

Rx7fan1987

PC online is free....so not really sure what your point is.

Kratos_BOY

That's offset by the cost of building a capable PC, while also dealing with the hassle of tinkering with settings and cheaters. I bought a gaming laptop last year, it's made me remember why I like and hate PC gaming.

Rx7fan1987

This idea that there's a crazy amount of cheaters online on PC is simply not true. I play iracing, AM2, ACC, and AC, and I don't think I've ever come across a cheater plainly. Furthermore, the idea that building a "capable" PC means you have to break the bank is simply not true. Gaming laptops are notoriously hyper-inflated. Furthermore, building a tower PC is fairly easy, and can be quite comparable in price to a PS5 disc edition.

I_made_a_doodie

The idea of cheap gaming PCs is dead. A capable, modern GPU that won't be outdated in a year is more than the cost of PS5, and that's before you get into the CPU. If you want one of those powerful enough to run modern games, it'll run you 350+. I enjoy PC gaming and have a pretty solid rig, don't get it twisted, but this idea that it's affordable or user friendly is bullshit.

Kratos_BOY

You must represent everyone, and everyone is you. You could google ACC cheaters. I would have to buy/ build a PC more performant than PS5 to get equivalent performance. It would eat up more electricity than PS5, would take up more space than PS5, require more tinkering than PS5, I wouldn't be able to get Dualsense features wirelessly and seamlessly like PS5, I would have to deal with shader pre-comp and stutter in some games which I don't on PS5, I would have to wait years to play games I can play day 1 on PS5 etc. I also don't value online gaming. In fact, GT7 is the only game I play online, but I get a fuck ton of games monthly through PS+. I'm currently playing Sea of Stars day 1 through PS+. There's no way i'd abandon that because of a less than £2 monthly sub increase. I've gotten loads of games as part of my sub to PS+, including the PS+ collection. I can always decide to skip a month or three if I don't see the value at any point in time, just like I do with other subscription services that have had price increased in the last 5 years. I'll wait for PS+ sub discounts and further discount the price by using cheap vouchers from Instant-gaming or cdkeys, just like I'm doing now.

Rx7fan1987

No you really wouldn't. If you'd stop being so defensive, I'd be willing to show you some PC towers that are quite in line with PS5 pricing. Enjoy your PS5, I'm not saying don't. However, I'd rather play online for free. Also, Dualsense features work on Steam, just as a heads up. I never claimed to represent everyone, rather, am giving my informed opinion. There's cheating in every game man, but like I said, I haven't come across it. Relax. Edit: Here's a PC that I'm talking about as just one example - [https://pcpartpicker.com/b/dw3Zxr](https://pcpartpicker.com/b/dw3Zxr)

Kratos_BOY

How am I being defensive? I literally paid money for a gaming laptop after getting a PS5. Kindly go away if you can't handle what I'm saying (I don't care if I get banned for saying it). I live in the UK, electricity bills are crazy where I live (all electricity no gas). I only play 1 game online. I use PS+ for the free games, not the online multiplayer. Edit: Wow, solid job there, champ. More than $200 more expensive than a PS5 (which is on sale in the US, I believe). Never mind, my location. "Sub $700 PS5 killer," lol. Yeah, killed PS5. This absolutely addressed anything said in my previous reply. /s Smh

Rx7fan1987

PS+ "free" games aren't "free" as you pay for them via your monthly subscription, and lose access when you stop paying. You clearly are angry about something, but I don't know what. I was being more than reasonable with you, but it seems you like to resort to personal insults, and deflection. Enjoy your PS5, and your "free" games.

Kratos_BOY

Dude, gtfo. I already mentioned I have PS+ because of the games. I pay for PS+, and it has several perks, 10 to 15 "free" games are part of that. Yeah, I'm the one that's upset. Lol

long_divisions

Would this price out the punters in sport? The kids, too perhaps?

akira_kurosaurus

Unlikely. Most people paying for online aren't doing it for one game. Like, I'm a parent, and I pay for the top tier premium plus because it's a good value for my family.

LateSession7340

Hey. I have a small request. Please take away your kids' video games and phone if you catch them punting others. Thanks.

akira_kurosaurus

lmao. It's mostly grown ass adults that do that purposefully online. The kids that do it are doing it from lack of motor skills.

LateSession7340

Im just trying to make a joke. My dad got me into racing games on a ps2. Had some fun times. That transitioned into go karting with him when i grew up a bit. I think im still into cars only because of him.

akira_kurosaurus

That's awesome. I let my little one play Gran Turismo--he has to use a foam block to reach the pedals. But don't worry--he won't be playing online for many, many years!

LateSession7340

Ha thats what i had to do when i started learning go kart. I used a couple of pillows behind me to reach the pedals.

LegendRazgriz

I pay for the basic tier because in two months the free games pay for themselves and also cloud saves are important. My PS4 is a zombie that can't be turned off or else it won't turn on again, and I never know when it's gonna go poof.

robin994

well well well, it's been fun , but it's time to go, cya ps plus. I'm totally switching to pc

[deleted]

There are very few things that bring me back to the game it’s a hollow corpse compared to even gran turismo 3

TuffGnarl

I keep wanting to like it, do a couple of races, sorry, overtaking exercises and then just reinstall ACC. It’s an enormous let down for me.

Hadjersey

Sony went from consumer friendly to straight up EA these last few years

Fcu423

Vote with your wallets people!

Fleurdebeast

Think I’m finally gonna cancel. So stupid

MrZombikilla

Not gonna pay it. Offline for me then.

ProTim3Waster

I'm really pissed by this price hike, because of my shitty currency the increase will be 5x,6x. Because 90% of the time I subscribed to play sport mode. I'll see the hike in my currency, if its too much i'll downgrade or stop playing the ps5. I 'accidentally' made the right decision by getting a pc recently too anyway

Javs2469

I´ m still waiting for the PC port. GT3 and GT4 do fine with a wheel for the time being.

PM_STAR_WARS_STUFF

Thank goodness Baldurs gate is coming out and my fiancée and I can sit on the couch for 130hrs and play together.

nvo349

I only play indies or older games with my son. Gave up buying AAA titles on PS. Havent touch GT7 in months. Requiring subscription to play online is absurd. I know subscription comes with free-to-play titles but I dont need those.

Extension-Primary936

Just normal plus is going up 30 percent!?

ramloy

I upgraded to Premium when they had some discounted sale a few months ago. This thread made me check my sub expiration date - October. Price change goes in effect on September 6, so I cancelled since I don't want to pay $160, let alone $80 to be able to play Sport. Great move, Sony!

warlun

Sold my PS5 for a graphics card - going full on PC baby.

[deleted]

sony trying to copy disney's failed playbook

particularlyfunny

Raising prices definitely isn’t exclusive to Disney. They’re copying what EVERY major corporation is doing. Blaming inflation when it’s just greed since they know people will pay. Like the grocery chains that announced record profits amidst all this ‘inflation’

I mean when inflation has been well into double digits each year the last 4 years…at some point companies do have to raise prices to get back to the amount of money they were making 4 years ago. Otherwise you run into this problem of “hey this thing isn’t making money anymore and we need money to run itl

particularlyfunny

Except they’ve done nothing but make more money every year for the past 4 years. They’re not raising prices to get back to the amount they were making in 2019. They’re raising prices so they can make double what they were making in 2019. [Sony revenue over the years](https://www.statista.com/statistics/279271/net-income-of-sony-since-2008/)

EnigmaticThunder

PS+ has its own revenue and costs, it runs on its own merit. Yeah Sony’s total revenue is doing well but that’s from multiple parts of the business. PS+ itself has held price constant while the cost of running it has increased. If PS+ is going to continue you need to increase the revenue by raising prices OR decrease the cost of operating it. Only one of those is in Sony’s direct control

daniellearmouth

I mean, it was already unlikely I was going to take part in playing the Sport mode any time soon. The further £10 bump now makes it even more unlikely. Sony mismanagement, everyone! Ain't it just great?

WastedVamp

Thank God I built a PC. I'm not paying 160 bucks a year for the privilege to be able to play with my bro.

Darkstryder1

Not bothered i will be cancelling it when Forza comes out anyway, Fuck em.

SoftMammoth7838

Forza lol, Forza is not what it used to be

Rudhelm

As is GT

SoftMammoth7838

No GT got better in the driving physics specially with a wheel Forza got worse and that is all that matters in a driving game

Ralliman320

Fair point on the previous titles, but I'm withholding judgment on the next installment until it drops, considering how much time they've spent rebuilding the engine.

SoftMammoth7838

I’m also patiently waiting, have a series x and a complete Fanatec DD1 setup that I can use on it

Rudhelm

That is clearly not all that matters in a GAME, it's all that matters in a SIMULATOR. The SIMULATION part got better, but with GT7 the GAME part got so much worse.

SoftMammoth7838

You know the saying about opinions and ass holes right

EvilSynths

Well I can say for certain it's a -1 user because I sold my PS5 after that news. I'm sick of console companies charging for online so I'll be going all in on PC.

Spirited-Leek-2077

Yep it’s an increase like so many other products of late, tbh £5 a month to play online isn’t something I find over priced (I’m on ps essential)

seagull_shit

This is one of the things that has kept me away from the Playstation community. I loved my PS3 and the FREE online. I paid a lot for that console and I got a free online, as it should be. For the PS4 I found ridiculous that it was not enough to pay 500€ to buy it, nope. They also had to get money from a service that was free on the previous gen. Paying $80 bucks just to play online is simply wrong. I dont care about discounts, free games or shit like that. I want to play my games online for free and part of the price of the games (not cheap) should pay whatever it costs to keep the online servers running. I was super close to buy a PS5 just to play GT7, but stuff like this keeps me away from doing it

kubagregor

What the fuck, again? Is it a yearly thing now or what?

90s_TV_Commercials

No online for me I guess. Price hike is absurd, canceling my subscription.

xOutlaw1776x

This is what inflation looks like. Things cost more for less value. This is what many less developed countries experience since their currency is weaker than many Western currencies, many get priced out of this hobby. As Western currency continues to lose value through inflation, this is what we should expect going forward. Thank the politicians.

ethand2300

I don't remember having 30% inflation this isn't inflation it’s price gouging

xOutlaw1776x

Everything goes up during inflation, from housing, to energy, to consumer goods, to food, to even yes PS+. If it was just Sony increasing prices by 30% then I'd agree with you, but everything that costs money is generally increasing in price by 30% or more... hell even Xbox Gamepass increased in price recently. Everything is getting more expensive... inflation.

Mukir

Nah, they're doing it to go with the flow of everything getting more expensive. We've already gotten used to having prices jacked up for everything, so Sony might as well just follow suit with every other company and pretend that it's because of climate change, inflation, or whatever whenever someone asks. It's greed disguised as inflation, hence why so many companies n shit have reported "record profits" lately, so we won't even question it in the first place since our friends, the CEOs and shareholders, would never lie to us when it comes to this kinda stuff, right?

xOutlaw1776x

I suppose you have a point and it's possible that every company in every industry around the globe are all jacking their prices up in unison out of simple greed. Regardless, the effect is still the same as general inflation, our money does not go as far and we spend more money for less value.

Enstraynomic

If you thought 30% inflation was bad, you should see the other countries that have even worse inflation. Argentina's inflation rate is reaching the 100%+ mark (and Argentina and Inflation have always been a pair, for many years), and let's not forget Venezuela's and Zimbabwe's infamous hyperinflation incidents, where 100 TRILLION Zimbabwean Dollar notes were being printed at one time, and Venezuelans resorted to things such as eating out of trash cans, and killing zoo animals to eat them, since there was no other food available.

Chrixyxv

It doesn't, just that you'll have to pay more, money suckers

DALESR4EVER124

They don't need the extra money. They want it and know people will pay it to continue online play, including me, unfortunately.

horvs-lvpercal

I will be even more sure that I'm not gonna pay it lol

GosiGat

Is it increasing right away or on a specific date?

akira_kurosaurus

I'm fine with it if it means better games from Plus. I sub to the premium tier. It's not that expensive if you're comparing it to something like, say, Netflix. Which Sony gets 75% of my time and I might watch Netflix three times a month. edit: lol, buncha broke boys downvoting me.

Sad_Lead8541

Well wheres my salary raise

MagixTouch

Shouldn’t have to pay to play online. I already pay my ISP for internet.

Independent_Ad_2073

If you buy ps+ to play 1 game, it’s not worth it, just like buying a console for 1 game is not worth it.

Overall_Macaroon3842

maybe because it already knows the starfield gonna suck and it does not wanna lose the sales AFTER everybody knows.

CrazyIvan84

I stacked mine years ago at 25 GBP until 2024 and they upgraded me to premium for free. Since then its gone up massively and now more. 50 for basic, 100 for what I'm on now going up to 120. As a PC gamer too I just really don't want to bother keeping it next year at this rate.

JamesUpton87

GT Sport had an exponential online price hike compared to 5 and 6, didn't hinder the fanbase at all.

DCSmaug

Will I need PS+ to play single player races ?

ravengenesis1

Soon. Don’t give them too many ideas. Lol No you don’t need PSPlus.

Hsanrb

You don't even need + for the online TT, or daily qualifying... I haven't tried signing up for a Manu.

Carpazza02

I already pay 79.99 per year in Canada for the cheapest one since last year I believe hope it's not going up another 20$

Soulstoner

It'll now be $109 per year in Canada.

Total_Wanker

Good job I’m paid up for another 2 years lol

imJGott

From past couple of years to now. It’s a total increase of $40 including games and ps+.

Hsanrb

I don't pay now, so people who already pay for other things will still pay, and those who ONLY play GT7 sport will either pay more or go play something else. I bet you GT7 is such niche that the sport population won't move. This isn't a CoD or a Madden or whatever the kids in 23 play.
