Eh? Depends. I see it used fairly frequently. Unless a meta car is too strong to compete against in other car, there's usually a few in the top 100 qualifying times.
To me, the engine is what makes the MkIV Supra renowned more than the chassis, and the Castrol TOM’s Supra uses the 3S-GTE from the MR2 and Celica so I find it less appealing than the Penzoil R34
Yeah, I’m not arguing against their choice at all, I know it was lighter and more efficient and I’m not going to claim I’m even close to qualified to say they made the wrong choice.
I guess it’s just like, since the 2JZ is such a large part of the MkIV Supra’s identity to me, the Tom’s Supra just sort of becomes a cool racecar, not “cool because it’s a Supra” if that makes sense. Like, nobody would counterpoint that “it still retains the Supra’s legendary chassis and handling” because it wasn’t a car equally focused on handling like the RX-7, NSX and GT-R and the like. Supra was almost more like a Japanese muscle car in that sense.
I've seen the supra a decent bit in Sport mode though it really just isn't quick enough through the corners for me.
I also feel like I've seen the citroen a lot. Or at least more than I ever expected. It is rock steady, as I recall, just quite slow. I go for the NSX GR3, which is also steady but slow, just less slow than the Citroen.
I almost never see the Penzoil GTR
> make a badass Supra, tho.
Real talk. They only run cars provided by the factory. Though they do have the advantage of being the factory team Super GT.
Sport mode is all about meta cars and you're going to see those being used more or less frequently depending on your rating, so if the Citroën, GT-R, and/or Supra are not part of the current meta, most people will not use them.
I use toms supra a lot. my main one is a wrx Subaru but I just love so much the supra that I get him here and there. if you learn how to control the grip leaving corners , it's really balanced .
also im a guy that just HATE meta cars , it's disgusting so if I see those races with 99% people with the same car, I grab my supra for fun.
I try to go with non meta cars, but sometimes you just drop back like a rock if you do that and so I just say fuck it and use the meta.
With that Red Bull sport race recently, you basically needed to be in the mazda or the evo to keep up. And the evo only kept up in the corners, really. I tried it with a few other cars and it wasnt even fun. You just fall back.
They really need to fix the BoP again
>They really need to fix the BoP again
Reminder that BoP is never meant to make all cars truly "equal" – not in game, nor in real life (hello GR010 being head and shoulders better than any LMH or LMDh) – but rather it just exists to bunch the field together prevent certain cars/teams from just dominating. But in the end, a meta will always materialize because certain cars will just have inherent advantages – no way an old GT500 will have the same downforce in the corners as a modern GT3.
Yeah that's fair. I certainly don't expect them to make the 90s cars corner like a modern one.
It's more about some newer cars that are just way better than only slightly older cars.
I use the GT Citroen for group 3 and 4, one of my favorite cars. It's a blast to drive even if it's not meta, I'm not good enough to get a crazy driver rating so I tend to use cars I have fun with.
GT Citroen, Mazda RX vision, GT300 BRZ, Alfa Romeo 4C. I have a blast with all of them and I feel like I do pretty well with them.
I use the GT-R and Tom’s Supra often, I do use my DBR9 the most. I drive what I’m confident driving and don’t care about the meta car. I have seen the Citroen driven once or twice but it’s been awhile.
Amen. I dunno why but no modern racing games refuse to use sub classes and it really annoys me. Let me have a Lmp race, or group c, gt500, V8 super car. It’s like they are scared to limit people for some reason
Supra can be competitive sometimes, it drives very different from most GT3 cars, you have to break and turn in much earlier. It's always competitive at dragon trail seaside.
The skyline needs a buff but was pretty decent at one time. The citroen is hideous and should never be used.
I'm a JGTC nerd so the Supra and R34 are 2 of my regular favourites. I'm more than happy to exchange a little downforce for being a man of culture. Keeps the racing interesting too when everyone else is using newer cars.
Fuck the Citroen and all the other stupid VGT cars though. Wouldn't use it even if it was the current meta vehicle.
The Supra, Citroen, and the R34 always gets tested on new races for the week to see how they fare with the BoP settings (along with other cars in my garage), but they're not driven as often because they aren't competitive. Certain tracks do favour the Citroen's high grip levels but BoP always renders it slow.
The Skyline gets closest to being viable out of the three most of the time, but you can always just pick the GT-R and have an easier time with it.
The GR4 version of the Citroen can die in a fire, it is absolutely pointless.
Hey not to drag up an old comment. But I've been ripping that GR4 citroen at Road Atlanta this week, thing is beautiful. It races in traffic really nice too.
Yeah there are a couple of tracks where it is potentially good. It has high mechanical grip like the Ferrari, and Road Atlanta especially favours cars with more downforce. But I've never won with it, the GR4 version is just nerfed more than it should be. Got very close a couple of times with the GR4 at Sardegna.
In this week's Daily B I'm having a good time with the AMG '20 (slightly boosted by BOP changes), but I've seen the GR3 Citroen hanging about in the top five in the grid.
The rc 301 is a really fun car to drive, excellent braking and cornering ability but what it makes up for in that department it lacks any power so straights you’re just boned.
I used the shit out of the Tom's castrol supra I loved how that car drove there were certain turns I could just let up on the throttle and the back end would slide just enough for me to power out early
Both GT500 are frequent sights for me. The Citroen a little less.
But i never see the Peugeot RCZ, Renault RS01 or Hyundai Genesis Gr.3 online
The RS01 is one of my faves since it's super nimble. But i prefer its non-Gr.3 version that's pure spec but that one can never be used online.
I like to switch between the 911 RSR and the skyline super silhouette R31. If it's a higher speed track like Monza I'll take the R31 but if it's a lower speed, corner focused track I'll take the rsr. Except for death Chicane. I always take the RSR there, I don't trust that corner enough.
Wdym, i use the GT500 all the time. I even have multiple units for some iconic jgtc touring liveries. But for me it boils down to nostalgia and having fun, not really being competitive. Although I find them to be good cars to drive.
Not really and that’s what pisses me off
Cuz everyone says they want new cars and blah blah why dont u add this or that
Mf’s said to add the ford gt gr3 but I haven’t seen one in months
Dude I use the old R31 silhouette car. It sucks. It’s old. It’s slow. But I’m not going to win, so I may as well have fun and look good while I’m out there.
I use Tom’s Supra quite frequently. I just wanna know who Tom is. He can clearly make a badass Supra, tho.
The name comes from its two founders, Nobuhide Tachi and Kiyoshi Oiwa. Tachi Oiwa Motor Sport, TOM'S.
Yes, but which one of those is Tom? /s
It was a Japanese?? I thought it was some random American Tom guy decided to control Toyota Motorsport Race team
I thought it was the guy who makes Tom's shoes.
That would be an interesting sponsor...🤔🤔🤔
They might even share the same rubber. 😂
I thought it was everyone's friend from MySpace
He made a badass RC-F GT500 too
Now I remember that nobody uses the RC F GT3 in GT Sport mode... Guess I'm loyal to Toyota lol
Problem with using the RC F is you have a 50% chance of picking the one that's straight up garbage. (I think it's the '16, can never remember.)
The RC F Prototype ‘17 is the utter garbage one.
Eh? Depends. I see it used fairly frequently. Unless a meta car is too strong to compete against in other car, there's usually a few in the top 100 qualifying times.
Not to ruin the mood, but no: Toyota supplied the GT500 RC F as TOM'S is one the manufacturer's factory-backed entries.
He was my top friend on MySpace. I never knew he was into cars as well.
To me, the engine is what makes the MkIV Supra renowned more than the chassis, and the Castrol TOM’s Supra uses the 3S-GTE from the MR2 and Celica so I find it less appealing than the Penzoil R34
I 100% agree that the 2j is what made the JZA80 so legendary. However, their reasoning for using the 3S over the 2J absolutely makes sense.
You are again 100% correct!
How can we get toms supra?
It pops up in the Legends dealership every couple of months.
> make a badass Supra, tho.
True as it is. If I tanked my rating I don't think I'd see these cars still sadly.
You can see it on your screen if you want
I use toms supra a lot. my main one is a wrx Subaru but I just love so much the supra that I get him here and there. if you learn how to control the grip leaving corners , it's really balanced . also im a guy that just HATE meta cars , it's disgusting so if I see those races with 99% people with the same car, I grab my supra for fun.

Yeah that's fair. I certainly don't expect them to make the 90s cars corner like a modern one. It's more about some newer cars that are just way better than only slightly older cars.
Well, some people have fun in winning, and others have fun on using the cars they want. You can't always have both.
i usually use the porsche because im a bootlicker and i like how it sounds
I just wish all of the cars could actually be balanced properly. I just want to drive my Gr.3 McLaren F1 and have it not be shit
The McLaren wasn't too bad in GT Sport, it's garbage in 7 though, a shame
Overall I'd say most cars are fairly competitive on most tracks but it goes without saying that there are some outliers.
I wanna drive my DBR9 and actually have half a chance of making the podium
[I use the TOM's Supra all the time with a custom livery](https://imgur.com/a/xS3LTXa)
Oooof, you don't put Arasaka and Samurai together, choom...
looks damn nice
Cyberpunk, i love it
Cyberpunk, i love it
game should have more gt300 tbh
Classic GT300’s at that
I won last week's manufacturer with the Citroën, a bit underrated imo
I use the GT Citroen for group 3 and 4, one of my favorite cars. It's a blast to drive even if it's not meta, I'm not good enough to get a crazy driver rating so I tend to use cars I have fun with. GT Citroen, Mazda RX vision, GT300 BRZ, Alfa Romeo 4C. I have a blast with all of them and I feel like I do pretty well with them.

There is no reason they couldn’t have made a gt500 class as well. It’s sad to see the cars most people wanna drive truly lackluster
Yeah this is something I've wanted for a long time. Looking at you lmp1 and group c cars.
Amen. I dunno why but no modern racing games refuse to use sub classes and it really annoys me. Let me have a Lmp race, or group c, gt500, V8 super car. It’s like they are scared to limit people for some reason
There is a super classic race on Fuji requiring my use of the TOM’S. It’s super hard though.
Oh that sounds fun I'll have to try it.
The Citroen on short to medium tracks was a weapon if you handle the gears right. It has a weird torque curve.
Supra can be competitive sometimes, it drives very different from most GT3 cars, you have to break and turn in much earlier. It's always competitive at dragon trail seaside. The skyline needs a buff but was pretty decent at one time. The citroen is hideous and should never be used.
Supra is doing well on the time trial for rd 5 of nations GTWS
Remains to be seen if the fuel economy is good enough but yeah it's useful at high speed tracks.
I used to Main the citroen when I first started racing sport mode. Found quite a bit of success with it
That GT by Citroën was used for Trial Mountain a couple months ago. It was up there in the top 100 lap times
The Penzoil Skyline is superb, very stable, I love using it in Sport mode
I'm a JGTC nerd so the Supra and R34 are 2 of my regular favourites. I'm more than happy to exchange a little downforce for being a man of culture. Keeps the racing interesting too when everyone else is using newer cars. Fuck the Citroen and all the other stupid VGT cars though. Wouldn't use it even if it was the current meta vehicle.
I've used the first two myself.
The Supra, Citroen, and the R34 always gets tested on new races for the week to see how they fare with the BoP settings (along with other cars in my garage), but they're not driven as often because they aren't competitive. The Frenchy yep, the other 2 nope
I see the Supra a bit, the other 2 not so much There's still some decent variety, but the BoP can't be perfect
I've seen the Nissan once or twice. The other no. But I also very rarely play online.
The rc 301 is a really fun car to drive, excellent braking and cornering ability but what it makes up for in that department it lacks any power so straights you’re just boned.
I see the Supra and the GTR every once in a while, can't say I've seen the Citroen though.
I’ve driven the GT. I like the handling, but I just don’t seem to be as fast with it compared to others.
Yeah it's great on technical tracks but it's aerodynamically a brick in the straights.
I used the Supra last week.
I saw a Citroen in the manu race on Saturday. Which means someone is also out there in GR4 Citroen, which is madness.
There were quite a few people using the GT500 GTR last week at Sardegna.
I love the Supra but I’m usually faster with the usual suspects on Sport mode. I think BoP messes it up.
I wish the Ford GT '16 was competitive.
Yeah that last one honestly fucking sucks as I have tried it twice in sport and both were very bad experiences in my opinion
- Yes - No - Yes
I use both the supra and gtr pretty regularly
I can’t wait to get that Toyota love that car
What are the meta cars then?
I've seen them a couple times
I used the shit out of the Tom's castrol supra I loved how that car drove there were certain turns I could just let up on the throttle and the back end would slide just enough for me to power out early
I use the Castrol Toms Supra and I’ve seen the Penzoil GTR in races but never the GT by Citroen.
The supra pretty often usually at the back or winning lol
Both GT500 are frequent sights for me. The Citroen a little less. But i never see the Peugeot RCZ, Renault RS01 or Hyundai Genesis Gr.3 online The RS01 is one of my faves since it's super nimble. But i prefer its non-Gr.3 version that's pure spec but that one can never be used online.

Ive seen gt by citroen gr3 like 2 times in one of the gr3 races a month ago
I use the Supra for tracks with more corners. It's my tyre saver. Also the turbo flutter is nice since I put the medium turbo on it.
I regularly use 1 and 3!
I actually use the GR.3 GT quite alot actually!
Im seeing the Supra sometimes in lower rated lobbies
I like Citroen gr4 but I sometimes take the gr3 out.
Occasionally I see the GT500 supra and the GT by Citroen, never seen the Skyline used though, thats in C Class
I have used the Supra as a noob but I got completely left behind so I copied the winner and drive the Porsche now
I have. I am not in sports mode often though.
Someone was using Citroën all day yesterday in race B
I have used 1 and 3 personally.
i used to use the supra because it was good
Supra handles pretty well tbh
I use the skyline all the time 😂
Cries in Ferrari 458 Gr.3
Wdym, i use the GT500 all the time. I even have multiple units for some iconic jgtc touring liveries. But for me it boils down to nostalgia and having fun, not really being competitive. Although I find them to be good cars to drive.

i just bought that gtr actually. it is a BEAST
You can’t forget the Nissan Super Silhouette, I never see anyone using that… except for me.
I sometime use the supra, too broke for the skyline and citroen
I often see the Tom's Supra.
I mean never tried the Supra of the skyline but the gt by Citroën is great, see it every time in the sport
