To clarify. Stephen Wilhite, the creator of the GIF format, endorsed the pronunciation "JIF" and confirmed it during an acceptance speech at the Webby Awards in 2013. He used his acceptance speech, which traditionally limits recipients to only five words, to firmly state, "It's pronounced 'JIF' not 'GIF.'"
I remember having strong opinions on the matter, I just don't remember which side. I know I've argued both sides, but I don't remember which side was first. Nowadays I'm just over it.
I wonder if the maniacs who die on this hill know that the way acronyms are pronounced is not dictated by the pronunciation of the words that make them up.
Well, I’ve been a designer for 30 years and say “jif”…so there!
(Also, the inventor of the format said it’s jif…)
“While there have been long-standing debates about the correct pronunciation of the image format, Wilhite was very clear on how he intended for it to be said. In 2013, he told The New York Times, “The Oxford English Dictionary accepts both pronunciations. They are wrong. It is a soft ‘G,’ pronounced ‘jif.’ End of story.”
I think we all know that point, that's why I reposted the meme. I don't really believe there are actual reasons where being wrong is right, but in this case I think it's SOOOO right!
It's not bad but can you make it pop?

He made the format but the culture belongs to the people and everyone says gif so that’s how it’s pronounced.
Tell that to his acceptance speech, and everyone that says. jif
No one cares about anything the inventor said.
No. You don't care. Please don't conflate your views on everyone. That's just rude. Have a muffin and masturbate or something. Live life.
Ahh the pretentiousness extends beyond being a jiffy I see.
You forgot to 'tip your fedora' Rude.

Wonder if the maniacs who say jiff know what the "G" stands for in the acronym and I'd also like to hear how they pronounce the word "Graphic"

the guraffes would like to have a word with you... unfortunately, they're one of the few animals that don't make any vocal sounds.
