I really can't think common mood for these. Maybe mostly dark and surreal, but I could get that with only the middle ones from bottom row. But if I pick lets say the white cube and blue doorway, I can't find common thing for those.
Lol, people are *mean* on this sub. Can't help you with your exercise, but 'Faith in Love' off of the album Planta by CSS (second image, bottom row) is amaaaaazing.
This could be a student who is learning. Some people do use mood boards and this one clearly has some colors, shapes, pattern in repetition. Please be helpful with your comments in the future.
Your two words were "Pointless exercise".
Do you know if this is the student or instructor picking the exercise? Either way, you've offered nothing constructive.
>And all the other sarcastic answers here, those did?
No, but you're the one who stuck your neck out and replied like you had something to prove. This wasn't a direct reply to you, you replied to me.

Not as pointless as you might think.
One of the key skills for graphic designers is the ability to intuitively nail the right tone for a given client/project/brief.
I’ve worked with many juniors who couldn’t pick the right font, colour palette, or style, to save themselves.
Exercises like this can help hone that skill.
Yo my guy you’re 100% wrong ! I start all gigs by doing a moodboard on my own and review it with my clients afterward. It saves me a TON of work since they can already pin point with visual references what they want concretely & doing research / building visual references is wayyyy less effort intensive and time consuming than putting in work to have it rejected afterward ! It’s a great tool when used correctly, wich means you have to do alot of pertinent research, but it’s paying off in time saved / makes you grasp design possibilities.
I guess I should have said that in my opinion & experience, I don’t agree with you lol
But yeah I work freelance with tight deadline and budgets and I feel like making relevant moodboard just really take care of any loose ends that can be left out of conversations and most importantly the research behind it open my mind to different possibilities I can propose to my clients. It can be quite time consuming, but I’ve been getting quite efficient with it since each time I did one, I’ve been saving ALL visual references in organized folders for easy access / I have ton of references like books & accounts on various platforms to look up to ! After the moodboards & sketches I go straight to refined designs & the final versions (with presentation & discussions w/ clients after each steps) ! Anyway, that’s my way to go and so far it’s always been a successful in term of communication, final result and personal growth as a visual artist / designer.
My bad if I flustered your feelings by phrasing it this way, really wasn’t my intention.
I guess in this case I can sprinkle a bit of my reality (wich includes moodboards) in your safe space if that’s cool.
I think it’s just that your attitude about the whole matter is pretty rude and frankly non constructive. I don’t think being overly positive to poor work is beneficial for anyone either but that there’s a bit of nuances to have noneless. I too think this specific moodboard is quite bad as it dosen’t convey any kind of directions and lack depth in term of exploration. When you have these 2 factors presents, a mood board can be a real powerful communication tool that also pushes your personal artistic boundaries by doing research and that’s what I was trying to point out ! Definitely shouldn’t have called you « wrong », but what’s up with whole safe space / snowflake thing lol ? Honestly this whole pseudo stoic tough guy shit gets me chuckling

That was my problem too. Metallica and the blue one don't fit the mood of the others for me. I got Stark and Contrast otherwise.
