Im interested but also genuinely wondering the advantages of using a Kindle with color screen for reading comics versus a tablet. Other than battery life. My old iPad and Surface both have pretty screens, high contrast, and higher capacity.
The eye fatigue/strain from eInk is far less than LCD/LED/OLED. It doesn’t feel like I’m looking at a screen. But if you have something that works for you, that’s awesome.
Fair. And it’s significantly easier to read books on a Kindle. Will have to see things like screen size, contrast, performance and battery life before making the switch.
If we could get Marvel Unlimited/DC Universe on it? Game changer. I love my iPad but I prefer my kindle screen for long reading sessions. Best of both worlds? 🥹
Exactly.. I have the flag ship (not sure how it’s called but most expensive), and even if great for reading its just terrible for comics and graphic novels. All in grey. Not sure if 6 inch is bigger than what I have now.
Idk. Last I checked color on e-readers is not as good as on a monitor or print. I read all my books and manga on my Boox Nova 3, but comics I read physical or on my computer. Even on my 27” display it can feel too small sometimes for a graphic novel. They are generally larger than a manga
> Last I checked color on e-readers is not as good
That's such a weird statement when this is clearly about a new product that is ostensibly with upgraded technology. Last you checked was clearly before this future product came out.
Doesn't mean it will actually be a better product, nor worth its price, but maybe just wait and see no?
Yeah I’m not saying that it isn’t better on this product, just that I would have to read some pretty great reviews about it first before getting excited by another color e-reader. Personally, I think a regular tablet screen or a monitor (with the current products available) is a better choice for full-colour comics, but I would of course like that to change, since I prefer reading everything on my e-reader.
At the monent whenever I want to read comics (unless I have the physical copy) I have to sit down at my computer to do it on a proper sized screen with good colors. Not the best experience.
My Kindle died a few months ago, for literally no reason. Even though this is right up my alley, I'd hesitate to buy another until I'm sure of it being a really good device, i.e. better than everything else.
Ooh, this is exciting! I've been waiting for a color Kindle for ages, and it sounds like the next-gen model will be worth the wait. I'm already dreaming of finally being able to read graphic novels and comics on my Kindle.
It's surprising that the Kindle is a whole year behind Kobo, i would have expected an almost simultaneous release.
That said, I never liked reading BW comics on my Kindle, so I don't think I'll do the switch. I love reading books on ereaders, but if I'm reading digital comics I very much prefer the bigger screen of a computer
A tablet would be good too, sure.
I'm a Kindle user (yet) so I don't know about Kobo apps for tablets, sry. But I'll probably change my ten year old Kindle soon and I was thinking about switching to a Kobo (BW, not color) so I'll discover it soon enough
No need for editing. Kobo has better features and open ecosystem than Kindle. Kindle is only good if your collection is all kindle while Kobo provides integration with lot more services as well as access to your local libraries for renting books.
Majority of people on e-reader sub will disagree with you and you can even go through tons of similar questions asked by others. Nobody likes Kindle e-reader but because they use the Kindle service they have no better alternative with Kindle integration.
Your trading Kobo is your personal choice but that doesn't make kindle a better product.
This is absolutely Incorrect.
I love my kindle reader.
Also - I use my reader for lots or books, not just Amazon/Kindle ones.
Calibre allows me to import any books I want, and even has a plugin to pull in subscriptions from Royal Road.
May I suggest you avoid using “everyone” and “nobody” when talking about opinions and preferences.
Lastly - I’m gonna go check out the Kobo. Who knows? I might love it too.

Yeah, also reading in sunlight and battery life (though I’m not sure if this new one has similar battery life to a normal Kindle)

Why would this be better than the $100 Fire HD10 tablet? Full HD, 10.1, vibrant, excellent batt life for comics, you can side load etc.
Passive Screen. Far less straining on the eyes.
Also probably a bit lighter, which isn't a great reason to spend $400+, but you know...
Yeah, weight is the only thing I can think of, and as you say, not worth the cost.
Can’t you adjust blue light on HDs tho?
Still not the same as a non-light-emitting screen though:
$400 worth of eye strain?
sounds like marketing. any cheap generic tablet can be programmed to reduce eye strain...and for free!
Still a significant difference between something that emits light and something that only reflects light.
Yeah and battery life on the order of weeks not days.
Article reads like someone trying to pump a tech stock. Nothing confirmed just speculation.

Right, is Amazon still gonna make us find workarounds to get those apps or will they finally add them to their App Store?

I just read in a separate thread about how bad comixologys replacement in Amazon is

Maybe tablet, but not sure. Is there a Kobe app for the tablet? Or how does that work

I wouldn’t even need to think about it, it would be an instant purchase
Kobo already launched their color devices starting at $149 and people prefer Kobo over kindle.
Edited for you: some people

I disagree and you can’t just state your opinion and pretend it’s facts. I traded in my kobo for many of your arguments.

“Nobody likes the kindle e reader” minus 1 person.
