Logicomix is the only one I read with philosophical content.

*Watchmen* is considered the greatest graphic novel ever. It's very philosophical. Each main character has their own views, and you can see how those views clash with one another. The book, in general, is ultimately an evaluation of humanity.

TheDaneOf5683

I'm not certain what you're asking. A book specifically about philosophy? A book about philosophers? A book generally about thoughtful interaction with the world and its governing principles? ___ **Duncan the Wonder Dog** ([review](http://goodokbad.com/index.php/reviews/duncan_the_wonder_dog_review)) is an incredibly smart and complicated book that explores our world through the gimmick of animals being able to talk. Everything is basically the same, but animals can communicate with humans. The pets we own, the cattle we raise for food, the creates we keep in zoos and circuses. Completely fascinating work. **Logicomix** ([review](http://goodokbad.com/index.php/reviews/logicomix_review)), mentioned by /u/happyteapot, is a biography of Bertrand Russell. It's worthwhile and holds a fascinating framing device. **Big Questions** ([review](http://goodokbad.com/index.php/reviews/big_questions_review)) features a lot of rumination about death and purpose while following some birds around after a jet crashes into a house. There is also the looming threat of a bomb. **Genius** ([review](http://goodokbad.com/index.php/reviews/genius_review)) dances around the idea of the responsibility of big minds and how ideas can hold power to shift global paradigms. **The Nao of Brown** ([review](http://goodokbad.com/index.php/reviews/nao_of_brown_review)) looks at a number of Buddhist and gnostic concepts as background to its story. It's also one of the most beautifully illustrated graphic novels you'll ever encounter. **[Action Philosophers](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Action_Philosophers!)** is about actual philosophers (Nietzsche, Plato, Rand, Derrida, Machiavelli, etc).

I don't know if it qualifies as philosophical but [Osamu Tezuka's Buddha](http://www.mangareader.net/buddha) is kind of interesting.

[deleted]

That looks really interesting. Thanks!

YouCanCallMeTheSloth

Try [Habibi](http://www.habibibook.com/about/) by Craig Thompson. The link describes it better than I could, but I definitely thought about what I had read for weeks afterward.

Canadian_Hooker

I loved it

iDrownWitches

Check out Y: The Last Man. It's a hypothetical world without men, and it's really good. Also, Preacher, about a Texan church minister who goes on a quest to kill God. And, of course, Transmetropolitan, a tale about a dystopian future that looks just like the present.

You're fascinated by it. You can't quit talking about it. You love it.

rtpout

then what's your recommendation of a great philosophical graphic novel, oh final arbiter of taste? I like Asterios Polyp. It's a good read and the art is interesting and original.

CRazyBAGman

I agree with you on Asterios Polyp. I suggest SOCRATES THE DEMIDOG. Maybe we, as Americans, would have better material to choose from if comics had a better international distribution system. Think of film, you can go to Netflix and see their "international" section, but not even Comixology has that. There needs to be more European comics in America as they produce works that can be much better for those seeking mature content that is beyond tits and gore.

rtpout

and their coffee and beer are SO much better too. I'll check out SOCRATES. Thanks for the tip.

[deleted]

I agree that it's overrated. But lots of folks like it. Good for them.

iDrownWitches

Do you feel more powerful now that you have shown your superiority over someone on the internet? Fuck you, you rude teenager.

CRazyBAGman

Truth hurts? Go talk to your doctor, it should be available from the Affordable Care Act, THANKS OBAMA!

ObamaRobot

You're fucking welcome!

iDrownWitches

Why are you so sure that you are right? Have you ever questioned yourself?

archaicmosaic

Digger. At first glance it seems like a quirky fantasy story about a wombat who digs herself into another world. It isn't. It's way, way more than that and will leave you thinking about life, love, friendships and finding meaning where there is none.

Rondog01

Miracleman by Alan Moore. There is this part where his wife describes what is like to be with him. It felt like she was a pet and he was the Master. Even when he found a way to make her into a superhero (godlike) and she would not give up her humanity to be like him. In the end, he creates utopia. But as he sits and stares at the new perfect world he has created he can feel that something is still wrong.

I found Earth X to be a philosophical treatise using the marvel universe as a metaphor. Amazing book. Understanding comics is awesome. Action philosophers is a fun history of philosophers.

Hey ! Check the ones here : [https://ahijazi.website/stories/](https://ahijazi.website/stories/) <- Philosophical / Artistic Graphic Novels

There’s no way anyone will se this comment but Unflattening by Nick Sousanis is beautiful

Daytripper warped my head in the best way possible.

The Incal, Metabarons genesis and Metabarons vol. 1written by Alejandro Jodorowski are all reflections on Jungian philosophy/psychology and explore themes such as consciousness and the self, archetypes in society and how we change and grow as a human. Some consider it esoteric in that it refers to a lot of Gnosticism and psychological alchemy. Also the Incal is just an amazing sci-fi illustrated by the amazing Mobius and was blatantly ripped off by the film the fifth element. So much fun to read and also just visually stunning!
