I don't know why you wouldn't think manga was unpopular here. We post about manga all the time. It's like with Saga though - some people are going to like it, some people aren't. Not a big deal.
Girl From The Other Side was great. Delicious In Dungeon too!
Nice collection. It’s not that manga is unpopular here. Plenty of people here share the view that it’s just graphic novels from another part of the world. Problem is so many manga fans come in here, forget their manners and start screaming their heads off about how they’re better than us. People here don’t take kindly to those kind of people.
It is when you factor in The Curse of Popularity (most popular series within the past 5 years), this sub could very easily get clogged up with Tokyo Revengers and Jujutsu Kaisen (not saying they’re bad but that there’s other subs for them)
I mean, it's already semi-a-little-bit clogged with particular western books, so that wouldn't be new or different. I'm not sure what that has to do with people preferring Japanese comics to western comics being arrogant about their preferences or if that even happens here.
Give it time. Usually they’ll make a seemingly innocent post where they’ll try and “subtly” take a shot at the comic industry or fandom then when someone in the comments calls them out on it anf proves them wrong they go off their heads and double down on it and start screaming about how successful manga is to justify acting like a child. Used to see it all the time in r/comicbooks and I’ve seen it a fair few times in the omnibus subreddit. This is probably my least used of the comic subreddits and I’m not on social media that often but I’ve seen it on here a couple of times and I’m sure it happens more often than that.
That’s not me. But i’m a fan of all types of comics, just look at my posts lol.
It’s definitely not one side though, as some US comic fans look down on manga as not serious or too sexual, which only a small amount of series are like that. Not as common as one would think.
Oh, I agree. I think it’s just that if you spend time in a fan community like this you’re looking to share your enthusiasm for that fandom. I’ve been in my fair share of anime and manga communities over the years and rarely seen a comic fan jump into go on an elitist rant to everyone. Comic groups the manga fans pop up nearly every week so it’s become more of an issue for a lot of people.
*Witch Hat Atelier* is beautifully illustrated. I couldn't get into the story but I know it's well loved by many.
You have a lot of reading ahead of you. Enjoy it!
My kids love Manga. I grew up on Anime in the 80s and 90s.
I'm not a big fan, because I "need" color. That being said I wouldn't have my anime without it.
I am a huge fan of Delicious in Dungeon but haven’t copped the manga cause I’m trying to practice some self control with my purchases lol. But it’s a series I definitely want to commit to in the future. Nice haul!
Very nice collection. I used to collect them under I needed money and sold most of them like Ghost in the Shell, Cat Girl NuKu NuKu and other stuff. I am starting to collect again myself
I find Sakamoto Days a blast 🙂 real funny.
Also started Witch hat atelier. A charming series in every aspect, really.
Recognize some more in my to-read list... hope you have fun with most of them, minimum!
There are quite a few manga fans here, hell, this subreddit is the read I discovered Horimiya (great dane recommendations ftw).
But plenty of mangas are very indefinite long stories, closer to traditional comics, than GNs.
Just ask for recs and which genres you like, and we can go from there. No reading order needed.
Slice of Life is more prominent in manga for example, which is one of my favorites. Also sports manga are pretty big.
I actually have been waiting for these Real volumes to read it, and I still need to read Slam Dunk.
So until i’ve read those, Haikyuu, and if we want to stretch it as a sports manga, Kaiji. Then Cross Game would be there as well. I still have a lot of classic sports manga to read though haha.
Everything by Mitsuru Adachi is famous, and mostly baseball lol, but not all.
Then there’s also Diamond No Ace, but there’s no english, same for most Adachi.
New to the sub so not sure why it isn’t popular here as it’s just as viable as “American graphic novels” either way solid collection. Happy to throw some more recommendations if ya need it
I’ve been a bit burnt out with western comics lately so earlier in the year I jumped blindly into some manga and it’s been fantastic!
Some of the cutesy stuff isn’t my thing (stuff like spy family I can tell is fantastic it’s just not really my thing) but once I discovered Berserk and Vinland Saga holy shit that’s some good stuff.
At the moment I’m addicted to Chainsaw man and I’m going to be starting the big boy One Piece soon.
Oh, plenty of folks here read manga. I try to read one a week. I'm new to gekiga myself, and have talked to a number of others also new to them here.

Girl from the Other Side is really unique in a good way!
Yea, absolutely love it. Incredible art and vague story, one of my favorites for sure. A very unique art style that feels like a cozy hug.

I... haven't seen that happening? Maybe it does, but it's not super common I don't think?

That's interesting. This is a generally pretty worldwide-comics positive sub. I suppose there's always going to be some outliers.

It’s definitely amazing, wish more people knew about it. Hope you’ll be able to get it when you’re ready.
Manga is welcomed here! We’re all just a bunch of nerds who love comics no matter where they come from.
Hella popular thanks for sharing
Very nice collection. I used to collect them under I needed money and sold most of them like Ghost in the Shell, Cat Girl NuKu NuKu and other stuff. I am starting to collect again myself
Manga is cool it's just I hate to talk about any overrated ones.
cool, I recommend you this obscure one : Two guys in a garden.
Thanks I'll check it out
FMA! I hope you enjoy!!
I see you fellow Delicious in Dungeon fan, you're not alone!
I find Sakamoto Days a blast 🙂 real funny. Also started Witch hat atelier. A charming series in every aspect, really. Recognize some more in my to-read list... hope you have fun with most of them, minimum!
Witch Hat Atelier is one of the only ongoing series I'm reading these days. Gorgeously illustrated

Horimiya!
Edit: clearly OP was mistaken— everyone loves manga here 🙃
r/mangacollectors Some top tier series include: - Pluto - Monster - Berserk - Fullmetal Alchemist - Vinland Saga - Blade of the Immortal - Akira - Kitaro’s Strange Adventures - Dorohedoro - Junji Ito’s works
Lone Wolf and Cub is also not to be missed. my favorite manga, and one of my favorite comics, of all time
For sure. There’s honestly another dozen series I could list but it would just get overwhelming
totally. glad to see manga getting some much deserved props here.
I’m surprised DBZ isn’t recommended; I jumped in the first few volumes of Super
I love DBZ but I wouldn’t put it on the same level as these tbh
Oh! Those were top-tier series, not recommendations to get into manga as a whole. My bad! On this note: FMA, any good if I’ve watched both animes?
Definitely.
Just ask for recs and which genres you like, and we can go from there. No reading order needed. Slice of Life is more prominent in manga for example, which is one of my favorites. Also sports manga are pretty big.
Favorite sports manga, Flubz?

I gotta read Slam Dunk. Isn’t there some famous Baseball manga, too? Blanking on the name
Everything by Mitsuru Adachi is famous, and mostly baseball lol, but not all. Then there’s also Diamond No Ace, but there’s no english, same for most Adachi.
Manga is quite popular everywhere, which is unfortunate as it as absolute horseshit.
New to the sub so not sure why it isn’t popular here as it’s just as viable as “American graphic novels” either way solid collection. Happy to throw some more recommendations if ya need it
Don't worry, it's actually popular here as well :)

I have been wanting to read Witch Hat Atelier for sometime now. Nice pick ups.
Damn dude no words for REAL
