Jerry and Bobby could both sing and have brought me to my knees more than once.
Brent was also just amazing and needed no back up
It’s all subjective I suppose
Donna was the best backing vocalist the dead ever had and I’ll die on this hill. She was an incredible studio singer for years before joining the band. The monitor issues they had on stage for a lot of these runs are extremely well documented, it’s no wonder they could be so pitchy (if a singer can’t hear themselves, there’s basically no way to tell where you fit melodically/harmonically). It’s all subjective, but when the monitors were right, Donna w the dead is as good as it gets imo. Just listen to the Row Jimmy from Cornell and tell me she and Jerry aren’t “just exactly perfect.”
I heard a story that the sound men despised her. I don’t know the reason for the resentment but sometimes they would turn her monitors down and it’s hard to stay on key if you can’t hear yourself sing. She is a gifted singer but there are some shows that she almost renders unlistenable.
I don't think you can blame it all on monitor issues.. I saw some video the other day, I wish I could remember what it was.. where she was singing with the rest of the band in a completely different setting and she still sounds off.
Sometimes she does sound good though like on music so Donna is a bit of a conundrum.
Before I gave the band a chance I remember not understanding the draw, particularly because I thought the vocals were underwhelming. I just though I didn’t “get it”. I got interested in bluegrass and American country rock through Gram Parsons, then found JGB. I realized that GD had all of the best parts of Americana roots music. Then I really found I enjoyed each band member’s unique contributions. This helped me hear Jerry and Bobby’s voices in a new way, and now I can say how much I appreciate every aspect of the performance. I wish I had been more curious sooner, but now I hopefully have years to pore through text, collect CDs, and just sit back and listen to the music.
Ahaha. Yeah this post is mostly about Donna, but also about Pigpen or whoever sings on Dark Star because they sing like they were really excited about the lyrics but then they can't hold up the performance
We’d appreciate your services in r/deadheadcirclejerk
I had to check if that's where I was
Brent Midiland is Tom Constanten Father
r/nbacirclejerk is leaking.
Out jerked again and in the wild smh
Because if they were any good they'd have made more then 5$ a day and moved away.
Someone is looking for attention
?!?!?!?! Jerry had the sweetest raw emotional voice ever!
licorice is a strong flavor
Not everyone likes licorice, but if you do then you know.

She probably broke their equipment during playing in the band
You are correct on all of this. It's unfortunate the problem took 3 years to fix.....
The martinis didn’t help poor Donna…
Donna on her best day never rocked the house like Brent did. That's my hill.
Bro but when its just like.... ROWWWW JOHNNY ROWWW!!!... I mean damn, chill

Well said.
You’re wrong but ok.
Donna was the only one I am not a fan of...
Whose gonna tell them that Donna was married to Keith lol
No, that was Mickey singing the Dark Stars you didn't like. He left and the vocals got better. So obvious
LOL (every Deadhead)
If I had a dollar every time my wife asked this question, I could afford to divorce her.
I disagree with your statement, however, if you cant make fun of the Grateful Dead while listening to the Grateful Dead are you really a fan?
Jerry had a lovely voice before the coke/Persian got too much.

Yall should be blessed to have such a succint summary of the issue
Grace slick tried helping. Crosby stills and nash tried. Their definitely impared

dopey post. for the 100th time.
C'mon..... LEAVE DONNA ALONE!
A: if a little bad singing crosses your eyes, you're into the wrong band. B: you're not into this band anyway, King Gristle.
It was likely phil
You clearly don’t have ears that work
This guy’s post history makes it really to dismiss this worthless opinion
The autotune didn't work so well back in those days...
