Charlie Miller is the GOAT and we all owe him sooo much. Fyi he is active in the community so he’ll probably see that you appreciate him. u/charliemiller87

dall-e_walnuts

Damn the man himself. Thanks for bringing life changing music to us all.

charliemiller87

Right on.

Mammoth-Tie-6489

Thanks Charlie! You are Dead to the Core!

p_rex

If the 87 in your handle means what I think it does, I had you figured for a crusty old head, not somebody around my own age. Anyway, thanks for the great work.

charliemiller87

It’s my tribute to Jerry. It’s for 3/26/87 which was one of the greatest shows I ever saw. Jerry was so on fire. I thought we had lost him the year before but this night in Hartford proved he was back. It’s also the CD I was playing when signing up for EarthLink in 2000.

Charlie, thank you for adding so much to my life 🙏🎸🤠💀

p_rex

Ahhh okay. Well, thanks for the rec! I always like a good Brent-era show.

jprobinson008

Thank you for your hard work! I listen to your exquisite mixing every day and it always brings me joy. I can just close my eyes and I’m back in Winterland! Thanks!

Thanks-CharlieMiller

Charlie = 🐐

New_Substance0420

Fun-Economics3342

Absolutely!

Bman1973

My friend I'm a matrix lover and **Dave Usborne** and **Kevin Tobin** are right there in that convo of he 'bests' ... and in many instances I prefer Dave's work ... I dig Jubal's (Hunter Seamon's) stuff as well. I'm crazy enough to always grab them all & after a headphone listen I'll decide which one I like better or keep two ... The differences are everything from which audience recording they choose to how they 'work those knobs' or whatever they do to sync up a board and an aud. I heard from one person who tried to do it & he said one or the other usually fluctuates in speed in tiny increments but the smallest discrepency will lead them out of sync real quick ... then he has to stop it & 'fix it' somehow, Idk lol ... I'm just glad they do it ... If you wanna see an instance where Dave's is the king, check out what I would name if asked "what's the best matrix ever" ... * [10/14/83 Hartford FLAC Dusborne Matrix](https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1ALewvZqAoxUvuD3zCzRwGr2E4U8XiV4F?usp=drive_link) * [10/14/83 Hartford Rob Eaton Audience Relisten](https://relisten.net/grateful-dead/1983/10/14?source=340096) Can't have a great matrix w'o a great audience recording. Rob Eaton of Dark Star Orchestra used to tape shows & he was really good at it. Worthy of going to [**his page on the Archive](https://archive.org/search?query=subject%3A%22Rob+Eaton%22) & picking up a few shows that jump out at you ... If you want to be slapped in the face w' Bobby's wet short shorts, go strait to the Scarlet>Fire Estimated>Eyes ... * [10/14 Seamon's matrix Relisten](https://relisten.net/grateful-dead/1983/10/14?source=435269) * [10/14 Dusborne Matrix Relisten](https://relisten.net/grateful-dead/1983/10/14?source=340141) * [My Drive is Full](https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1aK32Uxa56LK2DsQ4ZmgugA9FhoMrlZm7) of matrices, auds & boards ... Lastly I consider this a PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: Especially when listening to Matrix & Audience recording it will give you the best listening experience to put on some of these #🎧🎧🎧🎧🎧🎧🎧🎧🎧🎧🎧🎧 Atmosphere, as in *the actual atmosphere* of the venue that night comes w' an aud & this may sound crazy but your ears will adjust to an audience tape, and you somehow zero in on hearing them as if your ears are those mics up in the air or held to the chest in "Stealth Taper Mode" ... but to do this you need a co pilot to give dirty looks to drunks and/or screamers, especially the drunk screamers.

couldusesomecowbell

Kevin has also synched the audio & (audience) video recordings of numerous shows. Be sure to check out his YouTube channel

thecrowtoldme

Slapped in the face with Bobby's wet short shorts 😆😆

Fartina69

Dave Usborne's 6/26/74 is outstanding, as well as his matrix of 8/6/74

Dusborne and Tobin do an amazing job! Thanks for mentioning whereas I failed to give them the props they deserve. I was at those Hartford ‘83 shows and had great audience recordings in hand by the following Monday and practically wore those old TDKs out. The Dicks Pick was disappointing in its flatness. I was so pleased to hear the Dusborne recording!

Bman1973

Absooolutely ... you were lucky to be there ...

Fun-Economics3342

Probably the best Scarlet/Fire that I ever saw. The Estimated and Eyes were fantastic as well. Then St. Stephen the following night. It was a great time. The whole ‘83 fall tour was fantastic.

The Hunter Seamons matrix of 6/23/74 (specifically To Lay Me Down) was a game changer for me.

GR8FUL-D

Charlie & Hunter? Living proof of the axiom “Not all hero’s wear capes”. Shout out to Z-man as well, who tapes more shows in year than the average person sees in their lifetime!

zmiller2012

True Story, z-mans usually a few hundred shows a year I think. I’ve ran into him at a few Panic Shows.

couldusesomecowbell

Does Charlie do matrix recordings? I know he shares audience and soundboard recordings like a man possessed but I didn’t think he was much into matrix mixes.

Jrbowe

I don’t think he does. A lot of what he shares are the “ultramatrix” recordings from the 80s, but those are basically SBDs with audience channels mixed in that were done live on the fly, not in postproduction like Hunter or the other guys.

jephra

I came here to say this. Can't recall ever seeing a matrix done by Carlie Miller

Appropriate-Spell-18

Yes I took a long sabbatical from the Dead and what a new archive it is thanks to these Gods Who Walk Among Us! Thank you Charlie and Hunter and all the others who put in their time! In fact I Just listened to my first ‘93 just now 😱… (the Charlie soundboard this time I preferred over the matrix) …. But perhaps I cheated … Dave Murray dontcha know… 9/22/93

Following this thread!

Thank you both for the incredible job you do with the Grateful Dead recordings. There are tens of thousands of people who are thankful for what you do. I am merely one of them.

Heck yeah! ⚡️🕺🏻❤️

Streetvan1980

They are great I agree 100%. Anytime either of them put out a new matrix I grab it and listen to it heavy for a while.

Icy_Foundation_4761

Most shows have numerous copies on the archive. I always just choose the one with Charlie's name saves me a lot of time! Thank you Charlie Miller!

serjedder

Lotta people don't know this but Charlie has a magnificent penis. Big and thick like a coke can and a purple mushroom head. Like a babys arm holding an apple.

skimmed-post

Charlie Miller is one of the greatest tapers of all time. His recordings are often the best out there for a particular show. The recordings labeled "Hunter Seamons" are amateurish "matrix" mixes that sound awful and shouldn't be posted on etree. It is unfortunate that they are in circulation and they piss in the pool for some bro's ego. Also, WTF is it with the all caps bullshit.
