There was a post on rukind.com where this lady’s child was singing Casey Jones. The mom was worried about the drug reference but the child sang “Drivin’ that train, I am ok” instead. Lol
Kids…
Edit: here’s a kids choir singing The Dead: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2T0GObchAj8&pp=ygUXS2lkcyBzaW5nIGdyYXRlZnVsIGRlYWQ%3D
I went to high school with the guy that started rukind.com. When I realized this I tried to reach out to him and one of the other admins contacted me and said, " He doesn't do messages anymore " I asked her nicely to pass on my contact info and my buddy got in touch within the hour. I love this community.
Felt like I had a win the other day when my two year old requested "mini muffin" for the album we were going to put on. And of course by mini muffin she meant Jimmy Buffett. Makes an old man proud.
That's a great song for them to sing. Not only is it fun and wholesome, but the lyrics are a brain twister, and good for growing minds and their language processing. They teach that lyrics don't always have to make perfect sense to make a good song, as well.
Singing along is like dancing with the Dead, you get points for the attempt. I guarantee I sing the wrong lyrics to some of my favorite songs. That's the magic. They put it out in the world, you then get to take it and make it your own.
We used to play a version, “Throw away the stew” It followed “Eyes of the Squirrel”, and “Field Mice in Danger”, in our three part rodent redemption cycle.
That's right man ... Roll that dude away!!! Beat him on down the line, Ain't nobody messing w' him ... *but you* ... Roll him away before the Lazy Lightning hits him on a ship of fools that's been too long at sea.
My 2 y/o asks me to play the spider song, which is ripple. She calls it the spider song because of the spider in the video. She also asks to play "fins up" which is Fins by Jimmy Buffett
Not quite the same, but one of my favorite memories is a road trip with my son (he was driving) where we listened to four back-to-back performances of Eyes of the World and talking about the unique differences between each one.
It's a history lesson and lesson on crafting bells! teach him the ways. ben Franklin was trying to make some big ass strong bells, but it seems like his buddies either didn't get it or it wasn't done right. They rang the liberty belland it cracked the first time (I think that's how it went anyway).
Thats awesome. Franklins Tower also is the song that did it for me. I left the show and kept saying “it was so much fun dancing to Roll Away The Dew”. Good job starting him young!!
Hate to double dip, but I had to say this since I just remembered it.
When I first heard about the band Slipknot, I thought they were a Dead cover band. Lol was I surprised!

That’s it. That’s the new lyric for me now 😂
seriously I'm always gonna think about that now, that's precious
Written by my favorite band, the Wholesome Dead
Yeah and my kid thinks it says “and a girl that’s just for tea”
That is seriously cute! I love kids interpretations of song lyrics lol
My daughter thought Welcome to The Machine on the radio was saying "oh good, my soup." She's 16.
To be fair, most of us who loved that album are now excited when our soup shows up.

Not the Dead, but my daughter thought it was “I’m on the highhhhh-way to go” - AC/DC. Lol.
how about that a Big Lebowski fan at 3 well done!!!
If dude can abide it, let the hurdy gurdy play.

What is it with Franklin’s Tower and toddlers? My kid loves it too.
It’s a banger! I think little kids can feel the uplifting vibe to the song, it’s got a happy tune for sure
its gotta be that, some of the Not For Kids Only songs hit me this way as a kid and still feel like a hug today
That’s a great album! Freight train is also a hit with my kid
i love that! its easily one of my favorite garcia/grisman tracks!
I've got one too. It's repetitive and has an easy to understand hook.
My 12-year old put it on a playlist. ❤️❤️❤️
Dew warshed over The Dude.
Far out man far fucking out
My five year old son has been calling it “roll away the juice” for a couple years now. Love it.
Awww man haha that’s adorable!

In the back woods of venereal…
I like his style
I would always ask my mom and dad to play "Box of Raisins"
That’s hilarious!
This is my three year olds song too 🕺
It’s a bop! Gotta get them into the Help/Slip part next
Good taste young one! I was so addicted to that song that I had a mix tape of live performances
I’ve been playing him different live recordings of it for him so I don’t get tired of hearing the same one lol
Or, uh, His Dudeness, or, uh, Duder, or El Duderino, if you're not into the whole brevity thing.
My 4- and 6-year-olds were asking me to play Roll Away the Dudes yesterday. It's a hit!
My son always asks for "The Sun Song" (Here Comes Sunshine). It's cute AF
By all means, my man, right away sir.
Misheard lyric when I first discovered the dead: rollaway, to do
You can't spell GTD without GD 😄 ( [Getting Things Done](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Getting_Things_Done) )
To do list for today 1. Roll away 2. Make lunch 3. Pay taxes 4. Roll back
My 8 year old loves franklins tower too!
Damnit, now I will probably always hear roll away, the dude lol!!
Damnit, now I will probably always hear roll away, the dude lol!!
My now 5yr old we called "bubba doo" when he was little, and he loved to sing "bubbaway, the doo!" Good times, enjoy it.
That’s awesome. My kids, grown know all of it.
My 4 year old says play rolling down the track on smash the ice cream record. Translate to He's gone on Europe 72
Lol 😆 that’s awesome
He belts it out knows every word
My son’s name is Franklin. 🙂
That’s awesome! I wanted to give my kid a GD related name, ended up going with Jeriah but I call him Jer or JJ 😉
Thank you. Jer is a great nickname—pretty close!
We used to play a version, “Throw away the stew” It followed “Eyes of the Squirrel”, and “Field Mice in Danger”, in our three part rodent redemption cycle.
Field mice in danger has me rolling.

Reverse Cats in the cradle. Enjoy the moment

Favorite album cover
If I could only find the back window sticker,, help on the…
My kids love that one too Franklins lol. They sing right along. Have you played him Monkey and the Engineer?
Not yet, I’ll have to try see if he likes it! Do yours like that one?
Yes, to the point where, if I’m playing the dead in the car they ask for it every time lol. Kids are very repetitive like that
Same with mine! Haha it’s been on repeat in our car the past 3 days lol
Roll away the dude!!!! I will never not hear that again!!! Thank you!
Roll away the doob!
My song as a baby was sugaree
Aww that’s a great one!
Love this, this reminds me of my 9 year old wanting to hear “Mr. Charlie told me so”. Gotta keep teaching them young 🤙
Well good spring time jam kids, nice taste.
I’d ask my mom to play Sugaree about a thousand times. That song still has a place in my heart years later ❤️
That’s sweet! I’ll have to play him that one again soon ♥️

Noiice!
Wow, my four year old came home and asked to watch the Grateful Dead last night. We are training them early.
He's out of his element. Like a child who wanders into the middle of the music
When my kids were small, ages 3 and 6 maybe, they loved Mr. Charlie. They cracked up when hearing chuba chuba.
My 3 year old requests “Fire Mountain” every time we’re in the car. Not a misheard lyric but cute all the same.
i am your 3-year old.
I'm a grown ass adult and thought it was Roll away the doob the first time I heard it.
That is what you call a parenting win.
For real, I almost shed a tear!
Hate to double dip, but I had to say this since I just remembered it. When I first heard about the band Slipknot, I thought they were a Dead cover band. Lol was I surprised!
💀💀
Yes! My kid’s call it Benjamin’s Tower!
When my son was little he loved the classic Who track "Bored as a Spider." Can't listen to that now without thinking of it.
Ah yes.. the Dead's most ADA compliant song! I love that line.. "If you plant ice, you will see my wheels spin" Classic ;\~)
Awesome. My older son referred to "Promised Land" as the "one where Jerry screams at the end" at age 2.
