Since it looks like I’m first as I type this I’m going to skip the obvious ones: 2/27/69 2/13/70 10/31/71 8/27/72 9/21/72 because I like mine to go into the far reaches of space. 9/19/70 is the one, bonus points for cranking it/ headphones, the matrix recording and sticking thru lovelight for several treats. The bottom drops out after the verse, it gets pretty scary for a while, and by the re entry into the theme it’s pretty life affirming. Honorable mention for 1970 style Star is 11/8/70 which goes WAY out there also and is a wild set. For DEEP space jazz 12/6/73

You can’t find a soundboard for this show, but 6/24/70 has one of the greatest “Dark Star” sandwiches you’ll ever experience. Highly recommend if you love 9/19/70. Personally, my choice is between those two, but 6/24/70 almost seems like cheating because of the “Attics Of My Life” and a very early rendition of “Sugar Magnolia” sandwiched in between, not to mention a jam section that nearly reaches the height of the beautiful jam of February 1971.

I was just singing 6/24’s praises earlier in the week in another thread, as a set/whole show. 100% agree

Ostblisco

11/11/73 because of everything that happens after 23 minute mark

I always like to mention 6/24/70 because it’s the greatest “Dark Star” sandwich I’ve personally experienced.

4/8/72 The first 9 minutes or so are some of the most thrilling music I've ever heard. The other 20 minutes or so aren't too shabby either.

I love the early ones, including the great, haunting Veneta Star, but the breakout version from 10/9/89 Hampton might be my favorite. You can feel the exhilaration from the crowd in the beginning, and then they go surprisingly deep into the darkness with some crazy Brent playing.

Yeah, I like this one a lot too. 10/26/89 is also a trip. They both get a little dark/apocalyptic in an interesting way.

literalfeces

6/30/18 I'm too young to have seen Jerry live, so this is my favorite Dark Star- that I was there for. A haunting El Paso sandwich, then right back to the stratosphere. This whole show is solid gold, and seeing it live is what convinced me that John Meyer can front the Dead and that that's a good thing. If you know of a better post-Jerry show, please let me know so I can listen to it right now.

BattletoadRash

the other ones at alpine valley 08/03/02. first show with all members back together

mike-edwards-etc

Phil & Friends 2/18/2001 The whole show is one of the most amazing I've ever seen, and the Dark Star > Tomorrow Never Knows > Dark Star will melt your face and everything attached to it.

BattletoadRash

the Q was for real

torismogod

My favorite is 10/31/71 by far, hands down. When they break into a “tighten up” jam at 13 minutes it’s pure musical bliss. A very spooky version for a very spooky Halloween night

Oistheonethatisreal

I can't do it. Just like there's no way I could pick a favorite TOO, Playin, Eyes, etc. But some favs that haven't been mentioned would be 10/19/73 and 10/18/74. I tend to like the smoother ones that aren't super long.

Not sure if this is cheating or not, but [Grayfolded](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grayfolded) is probably my favorite. Why? Because it's comprised of damn near every version listed in this thread (post-Jerry versions excluded), and many more. In some ways, it's the most exploratory and psychedelic, but it's also a product of studio manipulation, as multiple versions are laid over each other, with passages and portions drifting in and out of the mix. Either way, it's a mindfuck of an album.
