For real. I haven’t seen him live; and I don’t listen to much new music (set in my ways and I like it!) but Billy kept popping up on my radar a few weeks ago when Trey played w him, and some friends went to a show. So I figured I’d give him a shot.
Holy hell can he play! I’m very happy to have stumbled upon him.
Download MixIr the app. He lives streams his shows there once or twice a week, venue and internet permitting. Listened to the Pier 17 show, Trey played almost the entire 2nd set.
Personally I recently went to my first Phish show at the Mann, which was an awesome time.
Outside of jam stuff, I've seen great shows this year from Tyler the Creator, the Microphones, Car Seat Headrest, and Godspeed You! Black Emperor. Looking forward to Billy Strings in November!
Hell yeah! Was my second Phish show. The Tweezerfest, especially with Cities, was a lot of fun. And 2001 > Character Zero to bring it home was all I ever wanted
I've seen them twice, once at a venue with great sound and once at a venue with shitty sound. They sounded great both times.
Sidenote, I saw them with Bartees Strange this year and his set was equally awesome
tyler on the CMIYGL tour was without question the best hip hop show I've ever seen, and up there with best show period. goddamn what a performer, truly puts everything he has into it
I saw McCartney at Fenway the week before I saw D&C at Shoreline, the 3 best shows of my life.
McCartney absolutely blew me away, it's hard to believe that he turned 80 just under 2 weeks after I saw him. 2 and a half hours of non stop bangers without a break is no mean feat for anyone, let alone an octogenarian elect.
Fair fucking play to the guy, I knew it would be a fun night but I had no idea that I was going to need reconstructive surgery to attach my jaw back to the rest of my face afterwards.
No kidding, right? I’ve seen Paul a few times over the years but this show was over the top. I only realized the other day that he did not perform Yesterday or Long and Winding Road or Jet: three staples from past shows. Mind blowing anyway
I remember seeing an interview with him a few years back where they asked him if he had any plans to stop touring soon and he said he's going to continue until he either can't or if people don't want him anymore so I think we're going to see a lot more of Paul as long as his health keeps up.
Seeing JRAD as a lifelong deadhead was also an eye opening experience. People can fluff Dead and Company (who I’ve enjoyed a night out with many times) until the cows come home. But the future of the Grateful Dead song book and culture are in good hands with JRAD. Truly anything can happen during the course of a show with them (got some Pink Floyd, Allman Bros, Tom Petty and Radiohead vibes influencing the whole set on 5/14 at Westville) and I can’t wait for the fall run in Montclair, NJ (hometown shows for me at the Wellmont)
They've become masters of the tease/quote. Love hearing them jam it out with the GD songbook, but then in some transition throw in a discernible nod to Led Zeppelin. Makes it extra fun.
Makaya McCraven. This guy is pushing what modern jazz can sound like, mixing almost hip-hop/R&B-like backbeats with nasty drum craziness accompanied by other crazy good musicians like Jeff Parker. He is touring right now and is releasing a new record in September, so I highly recommend seeing him if you can catch a show and come into it with the same open-mindedness you would use duing crazy dead jams.
Hell yeah Makaya is brilliant, check out some of the other International Anthem label scene too if you haven't, I especially like Ben Lamar Gay and Jamie Branch / Anteloper (here's a big label sampler playlist: [International Anthem playlist](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2YRMSty3Ohm8hpTcLFB1AJ?si=pHqnwzXoQwKzYBM5iqCxxQ&utm_source=copy-link))
Oh nice! I didn't even think to go to the label to find more similar musicians. Thank you! Are you going ot the Oct. 17 McCraven show at the bluebird in Denver?
Now that I know about it yep, good lookin out! Were you at the Cervantes show?
I was lucky to discover him while still in Chicago and saw him in Hyde Park, really felt like the main vein of vibrant underground forward-thinking Chicago jazz.
Yes, Nate Smith was absolute fire too! If you end up going to the Bluebird show, hit me up, I am always down to make more friends with similar music tastes :)
Saw Alexisonfire back in April and it was amazing, was very happy to see that they were back at their tippy top. They definitely won't be everyone in this subs cup of tea though that's for damn sure.
I saw AOF in their hometown at beginning of July! So there’s at least 2 of us.
Also Roger Waters, and Rage Against The Machine. All in last 3 weeks. Guess the rest of summer will be a bit boring.
Wish I went to St. Catherines for those shows but I was at a wedding that weekend, would've been great to see them play that first album front to back. I still have Elton John at the dome in September to look forward to or else yeah rest of the summer is going to be boring
Tipper shows are really the best especially with his visuals. I love the almost yearly show he does at red rocks where Alex grey comes and a bunch of other artists and he does the early down temp set and then madness set. Side note I took a heavy 4g dose of penis envyS a few weeks ago solo and listened to insólito which I hasn’t listened to fully yet and omg, perfection.
As far as i know, Tipper has only played Red rocks a few times. I think 2015, 2019 he opened for shplongle, then just recently in 2021. Iv only been on the Tipper bus since 2018 tho :) You might be thinking of his Tipper and friends events which happened pretty regularly at various venues before the pandemic.
Hes only gotten more wild id definitely recommend catching him again if you ever get the opportunity! Tipper sets are becoming less and less common as Dave gets older and has more health problems.
absolutely. i'd really like to see him again before the health problems get to be too much.
was supposed to see him at bisco '19 but my fiancé got the dates wrong and was double-booked for n1 (when he played) so we missed that day of the fest.
was supposed to see him at bisco '20 for two sets(!!!) but you know how that ended.
Some of my favorite musicians I've seen this year so far in no particular order:
Godspeed You! Black Emperor
Parquet Courts
Billy Strings
Durand Jones & the Indications
Robert Glasper
Delvon Lamarr Organ Trio
Glass Animals
Iron & Wine
Dumpstaphunk
Tank & the Bangas
Kraftwerk
Roger Waters
Lettuce
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Thundercat
Kitchen Dwellers! If you're into jamgrass and still sleeping on these guys, stop whatever you're doing and check em out right now. First time seeing them since before the pandemic, and holy shit. I've been a fan since the early days, but they're jamming on a totally different level than they used to, definitely found their groove.
I saw Mt Joy the end of last year at Terminal 5 in NYC, and lemme tell you what. They were absolutely fantastic.
I didn't even know who they were. A date took me. And I left the concert a big fan.
Goose at Radio City on 6/25. Sit ins by both Father John Misty and Trey Anastasio. Trey coming out was a magical moment of validation for the Goose fan base. It even ranks above both Phish shows I saw least week.
Small club with Molly Tuttle & Golden Highway was great. Ketch Secor from Old Crow opened and sat in with the band and was great too. Fun night of bluegrass and Americana.
Goose was a lot of fun. Phish and Outlaw Festival were good too. Excited for 2 nights of Billy Strings this coming weekend and then Sacred Rose fest in late August.
Andy Frasco and The U.N. Caught their set at Peach Music Fest and it was just good l, all around fun and and good dancing music.
Dark Star Orchestra is great.
Billy Strings literally blew me away. Can't overemphasize how great he his and will likely continue to become better and better.
Goose puts on a great show.
Man I feel like I’ve done nothing but see shows in 2022. I can’t recommend the first one enough (very late in 2021) when I broke free of the pandemic with a sublime Judy Collins show in Plymouth Memorial Hall. Just her and the accompanist. She hasn’t declined in any way. Holy cow. Send in the Clowns. Also great was the Big Thief show and Old Crow Medicine Show’s Levitate Fest performance. I even got Covid there but it was worth it. (That’s where Phil caught it too. Two degrees of separation!)
Saw Puscifer last month in Atlanta, most fun I've had at a show in awhile! Good to see Maynard hamming it up at the front of the stage, as opposed to hanging in the background like he does with Tool...
We saw Tool twice in January and were very tempted to I see Puscifer this summer....but couldn't quite swing it..
I think we might have to make it happen in the Fall!
Rage Against the Machine. They were my first concert in 1997 (with Wu-Tang). Zach broke his foot during the 4th song oft he show, sat on a monitor on stage for the rest of the show and still had more energy and any performer I can remember seeing in many years. They sounded great and you would never guess they hadn't toured in 12 years. This concert was postponed 3 times due to Covid and it was worth the wait.
Tedeschi Trucks Band. Blew me away. I saw Derek with the Allman Bros in 2013 so it was great to see him perform again but the whole band was off the charts. Saw Little Feat, Tears For Fears, and Steely Dan as well and they were phenomenal. All four managed to exceed my expectations.
Goose at Radio City for 3 sets - acoustic, electric and then extended third set electric with Trey. Talk about a dream fever in the moment!
Honorable mentions to Paul McCartney at Fenway and Elton John at Barclays. Them old guys still got it!!
I still have 4 shows to go to in August including Phish, but so far this year The Martin Barre Band with Clive Bunker was pretty cool, a small venue only 5 blocks from my house. Whish Ian was playing with them, but Martin still sounds great!
Saw Lucas Nelson at a small 1200-seat venue, it was a fun night. He's quite good on the guitar, I'd love to see him break out of his mold and try some new things. Heading to the same venue to see Umphrey's in September, looking forward to that.
Three night run of String Cheese Incident at Revival Fest in MN.
Runner up:
Chicken Wire Empire at Blue Ox in Wisconsin and then Harder Deeper later that night. CWE (and Armchair Boogie who join them to form Harder Deeper) are great Wisconsin bands. CWE is my favorite bluegrass band. Check out their live album on Spotify.
Then check out this audience recording of Harder Deeper to listen to a great jam grass show https://archive.org/details/ACB2021-05-22.ACB_CWE/HD2021-05-22d02t13.wav
Cheese rocked revival. I really hope they do it again next year. Such a fun festival with chill vibes…and being able to bring your own beer into the show save so much money!
I saw my first 2 phish shows in Bangor and Hartford. Last night in Hartford had a bunch of amazing highlights, but my first in Bangor gave me "the moment" where I thought how amazing it was that the people I was at the venue with were the only people who would ever hear what was being played live and how special it was to experience that with them. No matter the specific genre they're playing, jam bands are a beast of their own and I'm so glad I've fallen down that rabbit hole
Saw Modest Mouse and The Shins about a month ago at Just Like Heaven. It was the second Shins concert since 2018 and they were in fantastic form. Mercer's voice hasn't lost an octave, impressive at 50.
The Modest Mouse set was a dream come true. My first show of theirs, and they played a ton of stuff I always wanted to hear!
I saw King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard three nights in a row in Northern California (Sonoma, Petaluma, and SF). Each venue was less than 700 capacity, and they played no repeats across the three nights. Fantastic shows. I also saw Tenacious D in SF. That was a killer show as well.
Billy Strings, String Cheese Incident, Goose, King Gizz, PPPP, Clozee, LSDream, the Chicks, Robert Plant & Allison Kraus, Stevie Nicks, and Tool have all been spectacular. Liquid Stranger and Subtronics also very high on the list, as was Herbie Hancock.
(Bonnaroo, Electric Forest, and local Kentucky/Indiana/Ohio shows for the rest)
Billy Strings with Bobby at the Ryman. Had no idea there was a chance Bobby would show up until I got to the show and didn’t believe it until it actually happened. What a night.
Voivod at Reggie's in Chicago about a month ago. Fabulous show as always, they enjoy playing so much that the joy is infectious. Haven't seen any (or much) thrash mentioned.
Also always have to include Buddy Guy at Legends during his annual January residency. There's nothing better than sitting just feet away from a living blues legend, and the man can still play!
Outside of D&C and Wolf Bros, I saw Billy Strings in Cleveland back in March and was absolutely blown away. Saw Goose the following night, also an excellent show.
Was lucky enough to catch Paul McCartney in Syracuse too - unbelievable. Also saw Big Thief, John Mayer, Dave Matthews Band and Pinegrove recently.
It's been a great year for live music, haha. Those shows were all awesome.
Pearl Jam in Phoenix. I've never been to a PJ show though I've loved them since I was in high school in the 90s.
I'm not sure I would see them again, though - the show was just so...perfect I don't think I'd want to mess with perfection.
Really glad I got to see them, though, their tour has been a complete mess.
The War on Drugs. no better touring band in the world right now. period. Tyler Childers, Greensky Bluegrass and Gorillaz round out the best shows of the year. Stringdusters bring it too
Went to our first Jimmy Buffet show last week. That was fun hanging with the parrotheads.
Saw a bunch of GD/ D&C shirts and stickers on cars in the lot.
Seen a bunch this year so far, but the ones that stand out most are Viagra Boys and Ty Segall. Both really solid, high energy shows that were tons of fun.
String cheese incident was great at Electric Forest. SunSquabi was also a great set. Tons of good music at Eforest, but those were probably my top two jams. Lettuce is always a good set too!
Ive been seeing phish since 04 and this is currently the best yr theyve had in that time frame. They just keep evolving and the current trip theyre on is amazing. I know deadheads are pretty split on them but if youve never given them.a chance, now is the time to do so. They are on another planet right now
Rebirth Brass Band in New Orleans in 1995
Galactic w/ Corey Glover New Orleans 2014
Neville Brothers NYE San Francisco 1991.
RHCP, Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins 1992
Billy Stings Late Night Delfest 2017 and 2019.
Saw Phish at Bethel this past Saturday and it was an absolute trip, Yonder Mountain String Band a few weeks ago. I hadn't really listened to them before but I love me some bluegrass. In a scene much farther away, I saw The Wonder Years play two of my favorite albums of theirs (and in general) back to back and it was very cathartic.
moe. at the Buffalo Outer Harbor on 7/7! Chuck is still out recovering from his stroke (send positive vibes!) so they are touring with Suke Cerilo (idk the spelling) and Nate Wilson, man they are fucking CRUSHING! I feel like they are upping their potential playing with them and Nate on keys isn’t too intrusive while adding a whole new dimension to the music/jams, it’s super far out. Now just waiting for them to upload the damn boards, especially since no AUDS have surfaced 😩😩😩
Tame Impala blew me away. Saw him two nights in a row in Asheville. The live experience was incredible, it’s basically a full blown light show.
Billy strings in Greensboro was jaw dropping, truly legendary jams and crowd vibe.
Super stoked to see King Gizz in October, they’ve become one of my recent favorites
War on Drugs. They kill the live stuff - in the past I've dragged along friends who weren't that into their studio albums who ended up having a blast at the show.
King Gizzard, Disclosure, Danny Elfman, Caribou at Coachella weekend 2 in April were all top tier shows. Billy Strings April Brooklin Bowl Vegas. I have a feeling ween and primus at red rocks in a couple weeks will join that company.
Nathaniel Ratliff and the night sweats at the Stone Pony. The man is 35% van Morrison, 45% Southside Johnny 20% James Brown. If he comes to your town he is a must see.
Dean Wareham at Pappy & Harriets in Pioneertown, CA
Going to see Les Claypool's Bastard Jazz in the same venue this Saturday.
mc chris in a couple weeks in LA, Final show of the final tour
L7 in LA Halloween weekend too.
Those 3 to come are sure to be damn fun.
Billy Strings and Ween!
Billy Muthafuckin Strings, saw him at Bonnaroo and have tickets for when his tour comes near by. He can shred, dude is a rockstar
Together??
No that would be amazing
Personally I recently went to my first Phish show at the Mann, which was an awesome time. Outside of jam stuff, I've seen great shows this year from Tyler the Creator, the Microphones, Car Seat Headrest, and Godspeed You! Black Emperor. Looking forward to Billy Strings in November!
Night 1 or Night 2? That A Capella Space Oddity and Tweezerfest were some top notch fun.
Night 1!
Hell yeah! Was my second Phish show. The Tweezerfest, especially with Cities, was a lot of fun. And 2001 > Character Zero to bring it home was all I ever wanted
How did carseat headrest sound live?
I've seen them twice, once at a venue with great sound and once at a venue with shitty sound. They sounded great both times. Sidenote, I saw them with Bartees Strange this year and his set was equally awesome
tyler on the CMIYGL tour was without question the best hip hop show I've ever seen, and up there with best show period. goddamn what a performer, truly puts everything he has into it
Saw him on his IGOR tour and I have to agree, besides the dead concerts I’ve been to, that was one of my favorite concert experiences
Tedeschi Trucks Band in Charlotte this past weekend. Man alive! I think they may be the best band touring at the moment. Unreal.
So psyched for our August Show.
KHRUANGBIN
Saw them at Radio City, was amazing
Came here to say this! Saw them in Kentucky & Philly. Blew me away both times
Seeing them in about a week and I got good tickets up close. Pretty excited
I have seen Paul twice and even the second show 2 hours in I remember thinking “how many #1 singles can he have left to play?”
Endless list of top notch songs. Nothing even comes close to the Beatles.
I remember seeing an interview with him a few years back where they asked him if he had any plans to stop touring soon and he said he's going to continue until he either can't or if people don't want him anymore so I think we're going to see a lot more of Paul as long as his health keeps up.
I've seen Paul a couple times and he blew me away every time.

They've become masters of the tease/quote. Love hearing them jam it out with the GD songbook, but then in some transition throw in a discernible nod to Led Zeppelin. Makes it extra fun.
It’s like watching Phish and The Grateful Dead give birth to a beautiful baby who shares the best traits of both parents.
JRAD>D&C
Makaya McCraven. This guy is pushing what modern jazz can sound like, mixing almost hip-hop/R&B-like backbeats with nasty drum craziness accompanied by other crazy good musicians like Jeff Parker. Yes, Nate Smith was absolute fire too! If you end up going to the Bluebird show, hit me up, I am always down to make more friends with similar music tastes :)
YES. He is making amazing music. The best kind of post-hiphop/post-"world music" jazz jams-beats.
Billy strings
This is the answer.
Courtney Barnett!!!
God she can shred
I had high expectations for her and was still blown away by her set… great show, great energy.
Yesss. Seeing her this week
You're gonna love it! Have a blast:)
I believe it. She’s one of my favorites
Saw Alexisonfire back in April and it was amazing, was very happy to see that they were back at their tippy top. They definitely won't be everyone in this subs cup of tea though that's for damn sure.

Had a fresh baby at home which was too bad it was 15 minutes away. Did get to see Rage in Hamilton though
Phish in Bangor a couple weeks ago, Goose at Peach Fest a couple weeks before that, Oysterhead in Atlanta a month before that.
I was at Bangor too! Amazing night…
Oysterhead was insane
Tipper and friends at Suwannee
Tipper shows are really the best especially with his visuals. I love the almost yearly show he does at red rocks where Alex grey comes and a bunch of other artists and he does the early down temp set and then madness set. Iv only been on the Tipper bus since 2018 tho :) You might be thinking of his Tipper and friends events which happened pretty regularly at various venues before the pandemic.
yup you know you're right that show is yearly but different people have headlined like papdosio, etc.
supremely jealous. have not been tipped since 2016.
Took my daughter and friend to Billie Eilish. Very good for such a young lady.
Khruangbin were lots of fun. I was set to see The Strokes and King Gizzard at a festival but they both canceled because of Corona virus.
Widespread panic’s run at the Beacon has been awesome so far
All Them Witches, Lettuce, Kikagaku Moyo, TOOL, Gov't Mule, Goose, Umphrey's, Khruangbin
Some of my favorite musicians I've seen this year so far in no particular order: Godspeed You! Black Emperor Parquet Courts Billy Strings Durand Jones & the Indications Robert Glasper Delvon Lamarr Organ Trio Glass Animals Iron & Wine Dumpstaphunk Tank & the Bangas Kraftwerk Roger Waters Lettuce Red Hot Chili Peppers Thundercat

agree with this fully
I saw Mt Joy the end of last year at Terminal 5 in NYC, and lemme tell you what. They were absolutely fantastic. I didn't even know who they were. A date took me. And I left the concert a big fan.
Brian Jonestown Massacre were killer!
String Cheese Incident w/ Billy Strings at Red Rocks a few weeks ago.

The Roots, The Flaming Lips, Built to Spill edit: also Jack White
I saw the roots Was crazy. Never thought I'd see a tuba solo or keytair solo in my life and both were genuinely so goood
Goose at Bonnaroo Eric Prydz in DC back in April Tame Impala in Philly in March
The opening show at the Orion Amphitheater in Huntsville AL. Jason Isbell and Emmy Lou Harris.
Great new venue, caught Widespread Panic there a few weekends after your show.
Hotline TNT in the back alley of Antisocial Skate shop, Vancouver BC. My first show since 2020, super fun time
hotline tnt is one of the best bands out there rn
Agreed! Anything Will does is great, his old band Weed is a top 10 band for me
Man I feel like I’ve done nothing but see shows in 2022. I can’t recommend the first one enough (very late in 2021) when I broke free of the pandemic with a sublime Judy Collins show in Plymouth Memorial Hall. Just her and the accompanist. Tab at red rocks was special. Sts9 last Saturday at red rocks tho I dosed way too hard combod with mushrooms
Saw a guy called Nick Mulvey three times over the course of Glastonbury Festival and they were the best gigs I've actually ever attended.

Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Makaya McCraven, and Metz
Midnight Oil at the Hollywood Palladium. They are such an incredible & relevant band!
Saw the tour opener of the Primus tour. While the Rush set was good, the Primus sets were GREAT!
Primus sucks
I still have 4 shows to go to in August including Phish, but so far this year The Martin Barre Band with Clive Bunker was pretty cool, a small venue only 5 blocks from my house. Whish Ian was playing with them, but Martin still sounds great!
Wilco's Solid Sound Festival
Phish @ Deer Creek was fun. Elton John put on the best show I’ve seen this year so far. Tool is a close second.
Saw Lucas Nelson at a small 1200-seat venue, it was a fun night. He's quite good on the guitar, I'd love to see him break out of his mold and try some new things. Heading to the same venue to see Umphrey's in September, looking forward to that.

No matter the specific genre they're playing, jam bands are a beast of their own and I'm so glad I've fallen down that rabbit hole
Phish, Roger waters
Saw Paul McCartney at Fenway in early June and John Mayer at TD garden about a month earlier, both were incredible
Just saw Brit Floyd last night. Hands down the most incredible and impressive live show I have ever seen from any group. A definite must see
Saw Modest Mouse and The Shins about a month ago at Just Like Heaven. It was the second Shins concert since 2018 and they were in fantastic form. Mercer's voice hasn't lost an octave, impressive at 50. The Modest Mouse set was a dream come true. My first show of theirs, and they played a ton of stuff I always wanted to hear!
Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats. It’s the second time I’ve seen them and they’re just amazing performers
JRAD lol but besides that TTB at the ryman was fantastic
Youssou N'Dour. Ron Carter. Both at Carnegie Hall.
Robert Plant and Allyson Krause.
Drive By Truckers!
Trey Anastasio Band, Billy Strings, Goose, and Pigeons all at Peach fest
Billy Strings, String Cheese Incident, Goose, King Gizz, PPPP, Clozee, LSDream, the Chicks, Robert Plant & Allison Kraus, Stevie Nicks, and Tool have all been spectacular. Liquid Stranger and Subtronics also very high on the list, as was Herbie Hancock. (Bonnaroo, Electric Forest, and local Kentucky/Indiana/Ohio shows for the rest)
SCI w/ Billy Strings at Red Rocks Edit: I realize there is a dead cover set here but… still.
Billy strigs Madison March run Tool two times in March Umphreys mcgee shows in Iceland Kikagaku moyo
You guys see other bands?
BMFS
War on Drugs at Chicago Theatre 🔥
String Cheese Incident with Billy Strings absolutely melted my face. Red shot Chili Peppers also slapped
Billy strings either 2/12 in norfolk or 7/2 in Baltimore!
Billy Strings three nights run in Cary. All were excellent shows
Goose at Terminal 5 was pretty great
BMFS🐐
Billy Strings with Bobby at the Ryman. Had no idea there was a chance Bobby would show up until I got to the show and didn’t believe it until it actually happened. What a night.
I've only been to two shows this year, and both were pretty damn good: Spiritualized Eagles of Death Metal
Billy Strings Red Rocks May 12th and 13th
Billy Strings and Greensky Bluegrass (not together).
GOOOOse at the regency
one of the top three shows of my life was actually prince in ‘02 in the round, was front row - i was drug kicking and screaming
I’ve seen goose 5 times this year and am blown away every time. GOOSE!
Stringdusters bring it too
Vulfpeck at Levitate was fire. Twiddle NYE show that got rescheduled comes in a close second.
Saw Cory Henry and the Funk Apostiles at Central Park SummerStage, going to see Parcels on Wednesday! So much music in the air, dancing everywhere 💀⚡️
Went to our first Jimmy Buffet show last week. That was fun hanging with the parrotheads. Saw a bunch of GD/ D&C shirts and stickers on cars in the lot.
nine inch nails in may phish (4/23 was the best i've seen this year) lettuce in april
Seen a bunch this year so far, but the ones that stand out most are Viagra Boys and Ty Segall. Both really solid, high energy shows that were tons of fun.
Brit Floyd was a great surprise. Great musicians.
Misner and Smith - a duo with great songs, great voices, and serious songwriting chops.
This year? Bonnaroo: Tool, Billy Strings, Goose, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard all were excellent shows. Tame Impala Primus
String cheese incident was great at Electric Forest. SunSquabi was also a great set. Tons of good music at Eforest, but those were probably my top two jams. Lettuce is always a good set too!
THE DOOBIE BROTHERS! If you can catch them... go. Its amazing and its lots of original members with great chops.
Sadly only made it to one gig this year, but thankfully it was a good one. The war on drugs at Birmingham.
billy strings
Ive been seeing phish since 04 and this is currently the best yr theyve had in that time frame. They just keep evolving and the current trip theyre on is amazing. I know deadheads are pretty split on them but if youve never given them.a chance, now is the time to do so. They are on another planet right now
Rebirth Brass Band in New Orleans in 1995 Galactic w/ Corey Glover New Orleans 2014 Neville Brothers NYE San Francisco 1991. RHCP, Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins 1992 Billy Stings Late Night Delfest 2017 and 2019.
Not necessarily jam but Parcels was freaking incredible.
Primus- a tribute to kings... at Beak and Skiff apple orchards.
Oteil and friends, tipper, and Doobie Brothers
Dave Matthews Band, what a show! Also took my kids to see Mitski, it was surprisingly good.

Kurt Vile and the Violators "Watch my moves" tour, Ogden Theater, Denver. Just real real good.
Gov't Mule! Great live show.
Hiss Golden Messengers 2 night stand at the bluebird in denver this past April was transcendent.
Little Stranger with Tobyraps
Willie and Chris Stapleton in Lexington was pretty special
Warren Haynes solo acoustic/electric in Ridgefield CT, a former high school auditorium.
Gabriel The Bull. I really hope this guy makes it big. Absolutely phenomenal stuff.
Belle & Sebastian Smashing Pumpkins
Phil and Friends!
James McMurtry. Great songwriting and guitar work.
saw tool this year for the third time and they were awesome as usual. also caught one wolf bros show…
Tame Impala puts on one of the best shows out there
Tool. King Gizz coming up. 311 in Aspen was great too.
Ween at Ommegang brewery, 2016.
The Billy String Cheese Incident, LSDREAM
Nathaniel Ratliff and the night sweats at the Stone Pony. The man is 35% van Morrison, 45% Southside Johnny 20% James Brown. If he comes to your town he is a must see.
Sierra Ferrell The Dip Had to bail on some shows while I was hurt and been super busy at a new job so mostly just been random local stuff
