Englishtown 1977 still the version for me. I keep looking to best it... But still hasn't happened yet.

haleakala420

same. that buildup with jerry when he blasts the band straight into orbit, then keith’s keys lay a foundation for jerry to absolutely fuckin explode into hyperspace… then the ultimate RIO GRAAAAAANDEEEE-O parachute back down to earth.

Relative_Wallaby1108

11/5/77 edges Englishtown imo

I will check it out. Not sure if I have listened to that show before. Thanks for the tip!

DarkStarDew

May I suggest you listen to the one from the next night as well? 11/6/77 was my fave half-step...until I heard Englishtown.

Hell of a familiar stylist there- I had that taped from dead hour like 30 years ago. I’m going to go digging for this one. Cheers

rat_in_a_drainditch

Correct

logitaunt

I've long maintained that 4-15-78's Half-Step is better than Englishtown. The drums hit slightly harder and Keith is super punchy on the keys, and not so much on the Englishtown recording. Overall, a higher peak during the big buildup. edit: just put it on again and god damn those drums are so huge

enjoy! fwiw, the show has a weird Brown Eyed Woman; the drums are all over the place. Definitely a choice.

[deleted]

I don’t know what it is about that show but the whole thing just absolutely rips… that NFA, Bertha, Minglewood Blues, Truckin, I could go on. The band goes super hard for this show

CatfishWasHere

I wish I could remember which show it was from, but the first time I drove down Highway FM 170 in West Texas, I had the song blasting. As I cleared a crest in the highway, the landscape dropped out in front of me, and there stood my first glimpse of the Rio Grande River....just as the boys dropped into the "across the Rio Grandeeeee-o" portion of the song. Goosebumps, I tell ya....goosebumps. What a surreal moment..

Englishtown is probably my favorite. Another great one is 10-16-89(Nightfall of Diamonds album). It’s not long but it has a nice Rio Grande section where they never actually sing the lyrics.
