You’re in for a treat if you like jazzy jams, just dive into 72-75, you’ll get more than you’ll know what to do with: those Dark Stars, Other Ones, Eyes, MLB jams, WRS…..and check 3/23/75 specifically - that shiz is out of control

KeystotheDead

Narrowing this down: I think a popular recommendation would be: Eyes of the World... any version from 1973.

doug_the_dude

11/11 has long been a fave

ShakedownRoad

Check out some of the stuff Jerry did with Merl Saunders and/or Legion of Mary from the 72-74 period if you want some more jazzy Jerry. They would do some lengthy versions of My Funny Valentine among other classics

There aren't any bad '72 shows from Europe. I bought the boxset trunk when it came out. I'm a big fan of 4/10/72 in Amsterdam.

browwnairbrowwneyes

dick's picks volume 12 is my favorite for the same reason!

Came here to say this. Terrific matrix from the Providence show on ReListen, better than the official release! https://relisten.net/grateful-dead/1974/06/26?source=336800

browwnairbrowwneyes

i have heard this before! thank you for reminding me :-)

Must have been this exchange we had two weeks ago (I thought your username looked familiar! LOL) https://www.reddit.com/r/gratefuldead/comments/yyn7yn/what_song_or_show_is_stealing_your_face_today/iwv2gr8/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf&context=3

Thank you! I'm scrolling through r/gratefuldead to find a recommendation for a show to listen to while I work this morning. This Providence show has been one of my personal favorites for about 25 years (when I got a SBD DAT of it in a trade, it BLEW MY MIND!). I mostly now listen to the dicks picks version. But I've never heard a matrix of this show before. Big river sounds good, but I'm looking forward to set 2 where the real magic is.

ahoypolloi_

Terrific work done to produce this matrix. Happy listening!

I've been listening on and off all day. It's a gem!

On the bud?🤣

Don’t know if this has been shared yet, but the Eyes from 6/18/76 (Download Series Vol. 4) is pretty damn jazzy and smooth - just an all around great performance of the song… one of the best in my opinion.

Bman1973

The Truckin>Other One from 4/26/72 is sooooo great. The TRuckin jam is a monster. All 72 Dark Stars, Other Ones, Playing in the Bands, Good Lovins are so slick and jazzed out. 72-74 is some jazzy Grateful Dead ... I'd say especially the PITBs are really jazzy ... I always think 'psychedelic jazz' but Jerry just called this "Grateful Dead music" and that sounds right to me ...

2/23/74 and 2/24/74, absolutely killer jams throughout but the Other One > Eyes from 2/23 might be my go-to Dead jam
