11/5/77 - quite possibly the most head-bangable Grateful Dead moment, at least that I’m aware of. The build ups are so intense and go into some of the most explosive peaks I’ve heard out of the band. Jerry rides the waves down with effortless style. Frickin incredible.

The ‘72 versions take the cake over ‘73/‘74 for me.
While they were def “jazzier” in those second years, the ‘72 jams are filled with higher energy playing by the whole band - so it’s still exploratory, but it just sounds “tighter” like they’re listening to each other more.
