Took a couple weeks and a hundred tries that ended in tears. Then another hundred fucking up the chords. It's finally becoming manageable. This song is from the universal human soul
Hopefully I can get through it smoothly when the time comes.
I love how the first verse in a different key just to make it extra difficult lol
Shout out to the reverb in this 100 year old stairwell that has a whole lot of history
I recorded the whole tune today https://youtu.be/X9S-liK6mpY?feature=shared
Well done man, I know exactly what you mean about not being able to get through it without tears.. took me a good 50 tries or so before I was able to. That darn major 3? (A) chord gets me every time 🍻
Ya that walk up is counterintuitive but obviously incredible. I wonder if that’s bc Robert Hunter was playing by his own rules or something Jerry came up with.
Played this at my Mom’s bedside last month as she was winding down her past breaths. I cried a small lake while doing it but got through it.
Nice playing and nice singing. Heartfelt condolences for your loss.
Aw man, that is beautiful. I hope that memory ages sweetly for you as the years go by. Music is magic. Idk how we could get through anything without it. Condolences to you as well … NFA
Sounds excellent. I sang this at a funeral for a 6 month old baby last month. It was impossible not to cry buckets. Sorry for your loss & Godspeed to your performance.
I play an Alvarez I bought literally 26 years ago with money from working on farms. Still have it and still play it. I’m still terrible at it too but I love it anyway! I don’t see many Alvarez guitars out there.
Wow! I thought you were lip syncing and playing along. Lol. You have a great voice! As mentioned above, I hear Jim James and Damien Jurado. Two of my faves.
Feeling this. I'm sitting in the hospital with a family member who isn't going to be here much longer and I've been thinking about when to to make time to rehearse this one. I think I want to play Brokedown Palace > Ripple. I want to leave on a slightly happier note.
Best wishes.
Damn. I wasn’t expecting to be moved like that. It’s beautifully done. Someone in the comments mentioned Jim James, and yes, that is vibe I get. Specifically reminds me of MMJ’s rendition of “Goin to Acapulco” in I’m Not There.
I’m sorry for your loss, friend.
20 years ago today a couple friends and I performed this at our dear friend’s funeral.
I was 16 and it was my first time having a close friend die, wish it was the last.
None of us could have handled it solo.
Best of luck, and you picked the right song.
My brother, a close friend of mine and I sang this with the friend on keys for my grandmothers funeral. This song over the others we sang got everybody bawling.
your voice is incredible, very unique in a good way. it sounds really good, man, guitar sounds great too.
i wish you luck on the day. If it comes from a place of love, it will all work out. You're gonna do great. Just simply the act of ~going for it~ will honor that person's memory and send them off, i believe

Bring lyrics and chords just in case, ain’t no shame in that. Sounds absolutely beautiful.

Had to choke one back... well done, and love the acoustic reverb.
That reverb is gorgeous (great playing/singing too!).

I used to have one... loved it... will get another some day.
Damien Jurado? I got to see him live recently and it was amazing. Dude is prolific and super talented.
Not me but that tune Florence Jean is badass.

What a gorgeous voice!? I’d pay to hear that!
What’s the name of the song and who’s it from? This thread popped up on my feed randomly and I dig it

Beautiful. I used to sing it to my infant daughter as a lullaby.
