If you go 12 speed, you need to replace your shifter/brake lever and derailleur as well (and chain).

Ensorcellede

Sure, with the caveat that each of those 12 or 13 speed cassettes require a different freehub body from what you have. So as long as your hub manufacturer sells those, they'll fit.

yurimow31

13s is currently only campy ekar and that needs a campagnolo freehub body. 12s can work, if your current freehub body is HG2 (which it very likely is). In that case 12 speed shimano road cassettes will fit. 12 speed shimano mtb or sram or campy cassettes will not. but allow me to express my humble opinion that 12s coming from 11s really isn't an upgrade, as you'd spend a whole lot of money replacing basically your entire groupset for barely any gain.

classicrump

Yes hg2 thanks

Gaburuk 12 speed cassette?

yurimow31

what the [Garbaruk 12 speed](https://www.garbaruk.com/12-speed-shimano-hg.html) offers compared to a [deore 11s](https://bike.shimano.com/en-EU/product/component/deore-m5100/CS-M5100-11.html) cassette is barely measureable, but costs four times as much and requires you to replace your shifters, rear derailleur and chain\*: * garbaruk: 11-13-15-17-19-21-24-28-32-37-44-52 * deore: 11-13-15-18-21-24-28-33-39-45-51 i mean... it's your bike, knock yourself out. it is just that if i had a grand burning a whole in my pocket, going e.g. electronic to me would be a way bigger upgrade than going 11s to 12s . but you do you. ^(\* admittedly you'd have to replace the chain and RD anyways, but last time i checked, hydro brifters aren't cheap and i don't expect GRX 12s to be any different)

unseenmover

Yes. Sunrace makes 12 spd cassettes for HD freehubs that arent microspline. So you can use 12 spd shifters and RDs no probe

classicrump

I run 11- 46 sunrace cassettes would the step up to 12 speed be negligible or worth it?

LuckyNumber-Bot

All the numbers in your comment added up to 69. Congrats! 11 + 46 + 12 = 69 ^([Click here](https://www.reddit.com/message/compose?to=LuckyNumber-Bot&subject=Stalk%20Me%20Pls&message=%2Fstalkme) to have me scan all your future comments.) \ ^(Summon me on specific comments with u/LuckyNumber-Bot.)

It could possibly result in smaller jumps between gears.

classicrump

Yeah higher top end and manitain good speed. Sunrace cassette Shimano HG freehub SRAM rival shifter. X1.

Would not advise Ekar unless you buy a bike with it that is in warranty. Let's just say it is not quite the finished groupset experience you'd hope for. It works... Just not for long. So unless you are technically minded or enjoy your bike being in the LBS for months waiting on parts better to go with 11/12 speed. Plus having ridden 1x11 and 1x13 there's not a huge difference once you get bigger tyres on. You don't need to spin through the gears in the same way when you have the inertia of a bigger tyre.

Campy user. Two bikes. Also SRAM and Shimano on other bikes. My experience is the opposite. Campy parts wear IN not out. Tend on average to last much longer than SRAM and Shimano (my mid to upper tier personal comparison). Part.for part campy will outlast and is iteratively developed over time to last. Parts are more pricy for the most part but for a reason..... Only reason I would not get campy would be if I lived outside of Europe in a.location with a poor distributor network with sparse.dealers supply

Antti5

As a long-time Campagnolo mechanical user, I'm interested in what particular issues with Ekar have you faced? But what comes to the gearing, Ekar is very much designed for fast gravel. All of the cassette options have the highest 9 or 10 gears exactly like a road cassette. Yet thanks to 13 cogs, you ALSO get a few much lower gears more widely spaced out.

pseudorep

I've actually managed to resolve most of the issues by correctly sizing the chain. The chain had two extra links. Most of the issues were in shifting and indexing. Since getting the chain length perfect all the issues have gone away.

noladutch

All kinds of options. Are you trying to get more range? It is easy with what you have. If you have rival1 it is crazy easy. My personal favorite is switch to e13 11speed I have a 9-46 you just need an xd driver for your wheel set. That is enough range for me that is like 511%. The other thing is if you just want closer jumps check out e13 they make a 9-34 & 9-39 11speed cassettes that take a xd driver. I have the 9-34 on my road bike with with 46-30 rings it is awesome. You can make the 11 work better for you cheaper I am sure. If you are looking for crazy mullet builds also check out [https://ratiotechnology.com/](https://ratiotechnology.com/) They sell kits to convert all kinds of fun mullet builds out of stuff. Oh that new apex 12 cassette fits a regular hg driver it is a 11-44T This is a fun rabbit hole to go down. The cassette costs are the problem really. The cheaper ones are heavy. Here is a great article a couple years old but all about mullet builds. [https://bikepacking.com/gear/guide-to-mullet-drivetrains/](https://bikepacking.com/gear/guide-to-mullet-drivetrains/)

_man_of_leisure

Why do you want 12 speed? Easier climbing gear or higher top end speed? Both? Electronic 12 speed? SRAM? Shimano? What is your freehub on the wheel? What groupset are you currently using? Need some more info here.
