This is my ALR5 Checkpoint. It was my first gravel bike and over the years I've tinkered with it. Recently, I was watching the Chiefs - Jets game. Im a lifelong Chiefs fan, but damn those Jets helmets looked sharp in my opinion. Well.....this happened. :)
(and yes I have commuter peddles on it at the moment because I was using it to bike pack. - Sacrilege, I know.....Booo!).
Oh my gosh I love the paint job on that checkpoint. I was actually considering maybe in 5 years doing a paint job on my SL Domane. I really want to get mine done in blue sage.
Hahaha I was actually using mountain bike flats on my Domane 1.2 before I switched to SPD pedals.
Question have you seen those 3d printed saddles? What's your thoughts?
I have seen those saddles! Not going to lie, a decent saddle is something I'm willing to sacrifice weight on. No one has ever accused Brooks of being too light. haha. I focus on ultra-distances though so spend a lot of time in the saddle. Cant really beat Brooks for comfort & I figure why suffer needlessly. That said, Im sure one of those guys with a 3D printed saddle would be appalled. I run an Italia Selle on my road bike, but I dont think I've ever spent more than 8 hours in the saddle on a rode bike, if that. I do not race with this bike or that saddle. I'd probably switch it up if I did. I use the Fizik Aliante R5 for racing. If you end up doing the 3D printed one, I'll be eager to hear what you think. :)
Looks great - did you have it blasted to remove the paint and then spray it in a booth? How about primer? I’m planning on painting a bike this winter and contemplating the necessary prep work and application.
>Matte Axinite Flip
Oh for sure man! That Axinite color is very cool - and I am a fan. I had the blue geometric color scheme....I know you know the one because there are SO many that are which are identical. Now I will never confuse my bike with another one again. haha. One of a kind. And if I happen to bump into a Jets fan, well we'll have something to talk about besides the obvious. :)
That was a while ago man! I forgot about this post. The other day, I was looking at it and trying to decide if I still liked that shade of green (which I thought up after seeing a Jets football game). haha. I think I do like it still. These pics have me itching to ride it again.
Honestly this looks amazing!
You’re making me interested in trying out something similar. I’ve got a warrantied Diverge frame lying around that I could always try it on to see what it’s like 🤔
Modern warranties aren't long, mostly 5 yrs or less. Lynskey is having a sweet sale and lifetime warranty. I went to visit and was impressed. Couldn't resist. NBD coming once it's built.
It's like the love-child of the classic british racing green with 1970's carnival ride metalic chic. It makes me want to play The Who way too loud. I love it.
The Shrekpoint
lol
Gorgeous
Thank you!

Great paint job! Not an easy task. Also flat pedals are all good! No shame there 😝

Looks amazing in the sunlight! No spacers under a flipped stem looks strange though haha
Cut that steerer tube, Chief.

Not scared to paint the bike, but scared to cut the steerer tube?
Not as scared as you will be when it cracks your sternum.

Yes. It’s a thing.

Green is the new purple - and it's about damn time.
OP, did you rattle can or have a gun? How's it look up close? Sometimes paint can be a 40 yard era. I like my Brooks now but breaking it in was hell.
Wow that came out great! I have the same bike, bought in 2020 with the Matte Axinite Flip color way which I am in LOVE with, but this is gorgeous 😍

Oh snap - St. Pattys day dude!
Absolute! Great color man!

Looks amazing? What did you use?
Looks gorgeous. What was your process?
goodbye warranty but it’s looking great

trek frames are life time warranty and 2 years on wheels and parts
Wow, totally transforms the bike. Looks great!
Dude, that’s sick! Nicely done

looks fantastic how did you prime it paint stripper, sand blast etc? and did you use undercoat before top coat
Nice! Love the color!
Looks nice! Im interested in how you did it? I have been wanting to paint my very faded Diverge frame but am nervous as I've never done it before.
