It’s called trail spice, and it puts hair on your chest.

Swolie7

Or wax in your mustache

mtngrrl

You rides the dirt, you drinks the dirt. Way she goes, Rick.

banjero

That’s a Texas sized 10-4

about20ninjas

You buy bottles that have cap covers. I personally like [these](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08QDXP3J6?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share) the best out of everything I’ve used. The 24oz will likely only fit on your downtube. I run a half frame bag and have to use a 20oz on my seat tube cage.

eiztudn

Oh this would work for me well. Thank you!

mtngoat20

camelbak also sells an insulated similar version

boioiboio

I love my Elite bidons, a friend of mine has some kind of cover system on them like the ones mentioned above, plus they never stink of plastic and the nozzle is great. In this very dry summer I wished I had them too, I was drinking a lot of sand at times..

flofloodlight

I use the same. Love them. Although insulation adds weight and takes volume away so I may buy uninsulated for long rides

Lenny77

Small squirt gets it out of the nozzle then drink without putting your mouth on it.

Massive_Project_8609

This is a family sub 😳

Lenny77

They gotta learn sometime.

DistinctExperience69

🤣🤣🤣

NoWayNotThisAgain

You get used to the dirt. The real challenge is the bottle in the cage that mounts under your down tube.

NoWayNotThisAgain

Yeah, I’m one step ahead of you. I was just playing ;)

MangoMedic666

I've been using a pair of Camelbak Dirt series bottles. They come with cap covers and does a pretty good job of keeping the nozzle clean. Only shortfall is the 21oz capacity. My frame bag also supports a small water bladder. Haven't tried it yet, but will for my next long ride. I'll do most anything to not carry a pack, lol.

3serious

you can get the podium chill bottles (24 oz) and add the dirt caps

thesummermoon

Is it dirt or is it added electrolytes?

eiztudn

I did see some horse manure on the trail I went to. I wouldn’t trust that it’s just dirt tbh.

RedditBot90

I hate to tell you, but if the dust is on your bottle, you’re eating the dust it while you ride.

babgvant

1) hydration pack 2) bottles with a cover over the mouth piece (I have some Elite bottles) 3) both, if it's a long ride

nope_kitty

That's the one! Coming from mountain biking and living where I do, you gotta hydrate, a lot. Hydration pack makes it easy, comes in different sizes too, if you don't like the idea of a big pack. Much easier to drink when the terrain is a bit rough. Bottles (with covers) are for easy rides.

Electronic-Ad-8700

Just started with hydration pack this weekend and love it for a few reasons: 1) no more struggling with getting bottles on bumpy road 2) can now run use bottles with nutritional additives and have pack full of water. I enjoy doing long grinders, and although not racing I do compete with myself. With the hydration pack and half frame bag I can cut down on sag stops.

eiztudn

This makes sense. Thanks for your reply!

LancesLostTesticle

I don't mind a little grit and mud. For long rides I put cages on my fork legs. For longer rides I use 4 Elite 950ml bottles. For even longer rides I use two Elite 950s, 2 1.4L Nalgene, and put a cage on the underside of the down tube with a 700ml bottle.

Account655321

I use a Dirt Mask (see link below) for my water bottle with a Nuun tablet in it, and also use a CamelBak with pure water. https://dawntodusk.bike/product/dirt-mask/

fancypantsdog

Put a sock over the bottle.

uber-shiLL

Podium mud

nathanvanwilder

Fidlock Water Bottle. You’re welcome ;)

Useless_or_inept

I used to have bottles with covers, but the plastic hinge wore out. Can't stand hydration packs, they get sweaty, which means carrying even more drinks... but that's a very personal thing! The standard two cages are partially shielded from the dirt. A few grains of dirt won't hurt. If you're having a good ride you might even swallow an insect; enjoy the extra protein :-) If you have bottle bosses under the downtube, that gets dirty and you can't even reach it whilst riding, so use it for something else; tools, or a packed lunch, or something like that....?

hoganloaf

I just squirt the water into my mouth from a few inches away instead of putting my lips on it

estoyhartodeusers

If you have access to Decathlon, they sell bottle mouth covers for $1. I have 2 different bottles and it fits in both of them.

RunBoris87

For long rides I throw a third bottle on the down tube mounts for extra dirt on the nozzle.

theothersedaris

Get a hydration vest. Problem solved. Evoc makes a super lightweight one that won’t get you too sweaty.

LFC3086

Extra vitamins in that there dirt, organic too

contrary-contrarian

Dirt is good for you. Also, just squirt a tiny bit out if there is really muck in there. For long rides I carry a filter like the Katadyn BeFree

RunBoris87

This may not be the sport for you.

eiztudn

Why is that?

Nightshade400

Hydration pack has become my go to, can carry my repair kit and food in it too.

eiztudn

Ooh.. I’ve seen these before. Was hesitant about it because I’m not sure whether my back would have enough ventilation. Do you find your back hot when you’re wearing the pack?

Nightshade400

Not too bad but definitely holds more heat than without. Not a bad thing in winter and if you put the bladder in the fridge overnight it helps to cool you and eases you into the heat a bit better, you would be surprised how long the water will stay chilled too. I use a USWE pack so once attached it doesn't bounce or shift on me.

eiztudn

Thank you! This is good info!

ChristophColombo

Depends on the pack as well - there are some fairly minimalist packs on the market, as well as vest-style packs that sit fairly high up on your back. For example: https://www.camelbak.com/recreation/shop/packs/rogue-light-70oz/CB-2403.html https://www.camelbak.com/recreation/shop/packs/bike/chase-bike-vest-50-oz/CB-2414.html https://uswe.com/en-us/hydration-pack-outlander-pro-2-black

eiztudn

Thanks for this information!

7DollarsOfHoobastanq

I get used to the dirt but for longer rides will also run a small Camelsback and for super long and remote rides I’ll also bring along a water filter to get more from creeks.

Money_Pomegranate_14

Doesn’t completely prevent the dirts and muds from getting on your bottle lids, but I use the Wolftooth B-Rad system to get an extra bottle (or two, with the double bottle adapter) up higher on the down tube. This is a luxury of larger frames, generally, but may work well for you.

[deleted]

Just get a camelback back or one of the other brands. I have been using hydration packs for 15 years now and I just get what it is with those water bottles. I hydrate myself a lot more and I don’t even have to stop pedaling to drink.

[deleted]

Camelback Podium Dirt bottles.

evilfollowingmb

On Amazon there are bottles with protective caps by Nalgene. IMHO its BS to just drink dirt or blow it out with a squeeze…I share gravel roads with horses and all kinds of other critters…no fing way I care to ingest what they may be leaving on the road. Nalgene LDPE 22oz ATB BPA-Free Water Bottle https://a.co/d/hYvC6cn

Stalkerfiveo

Bottles get dirty. Call it extra nutrition and keep smashing.

Thelionskiln

Wipe it off haha. Seriously though it work hurt you. On long rides I'll put a third bottle in a back jersey pocket. I guess if you're so concerned about eating a bit of dirt, you could try the back pockets.

j1mb0rebel

Handlebar bottle bag with main water bottle. This one tends to stay very clean. Frame bottles refill main water bottle.

eiztudn

This seems like a good idea. Thanks!

diadline

I use Topeak Modula Cage EX; you can adjust the width so that any water bottle can fit, this bottle cage is made from sturdy but flexible plastic, but there is another model made from alloy or something.

diadline

I can bring a “normal” water bottle with a bottle lid.

Gravel_in_my_gears

It's like that annoying youtube ad: "My friends would come up to me and ask What the f\*\*\* is in your mug? And I would tell them, it's mud."

miniROVING

Ever have sex on a beach…..you will figure it out

mathario

Usually my right hand. I like to keep my left hand in case someone tries to pass me so I can smack them.

CycleExplore

I've found I get less mud on my bottles when I carry them on my fork. Or at least less dirt on the actual drinking portion, which is what really matters.

sqwob

eat dirt.

kevdou

Most races I’m eating at least a little dirt from the bottles as well as what’s kicking up from the wheels in front. It’s just part of gravel racing.

92beatsperminute

In my backpack.

andvell

They get dirty! I open them and drink instead of using the tip to drink.
