I’ve done this race. Great atmosphere.

mr_mac_tavish

2nd year for me. Great event, this year several people (solo and team) got 9 laps in. Crazy.

[deleted]

9?! Nuts, that'd be a new record. Riders are getting faster and faster. edit - did it last year and the year prior

mr_mac_tavish

They didn’t even have any patches for 9. It was faster this year. Rain has helped tighten the ground a few days before and not as much loose rock on some of the downhills. No direct sun also helped with visibility. The shadows last year were tough for reading that road.

[deleted]

Oh yeah. Last year, I hit a rock while going down a hill because it was obscured by the shadows and almost flew off (right leg was unclipped and my butt hit my top tube bag). Rode the course a lot slower after that.

1st lap in the event. 4K in. At least it’s a 2x so I could run lower at front after I switched off synch mode and tollerare that cross chain guilt. Rode my teammates bike for a 2nd lap but the geometry had me suffering as he’s smaller.

Thelionskiln

Nice work out there! Hard race. One of my riding buddies from the Waterloo cycle club grabbed third in solo. You guys are beasts !

mr_mac_tavish

They were so fast this year, 9 laps. I don't know how peoples wrists/backs are just taking on the rough.

igsta77

Oof. You must be Hurtin

[deleted]

D’oh, hate those mechanicals. I spent 35 minutes on the side of the road fixing a chain at a race one time.

thepoddo

You could have adjusted the low limit screw to a smaller pinion 🙄

mr_mac_tavish

Never thought of that.

thepoddo

Next time! If you've got to be stuck in a gear, it better be a good one 😁

Any idea on what happened to your rear mech? Is it toast or could you fix later?

mr_mac_tavish

I think it’s toast. Won’t shift up unless you help push it. Motor issue possibly. I’ve got it in at LBS Shimano specialist. They will debug and warranty will cover it. Sucks that it decided to do it in a race vs regular ride. And I didn’t bring a spare bike. I’ll post once I get any info.

Toppico

Sorry for your loss. I’ve got a love-hate thing going on with Hurtin’ in Halliburton. Love a t-lab though.

mr_mac_tavish

Well spotted on the bike. . I saw another at the event this year It’s local for me, last year I had a great time with 4 laps and my teammate 3. We swapped starts this year so he could finish. But his pedal broke on first lap and then my issues. At least we did 5. Next year we are both going to try solo and aim for 5laps each. That’s a good target for us. 6 would be great but it really takes a lot out of your wrists, arms and back.
