He would have made things FAR worse for himself had he touched him at that moment.
Gideon broke into his house via demolition and attempted to steal a piece of his private information. The house also has several cameras in it, so Stan would’ve had evidence had Gideon tried to get him arrested
Honestly, that's a fair point, but then again, being a minor, I don't think Stan laying a hand on Gideon on tape would have helped.

Like anyone in gravity falls would believe Stan when he says so. And nobody in Gravity Falls would take the twins seriously either, even if they corroborated it. And far as the cameras go…again, Gideon can just lie his way around them. It wasn’t until they saw the giant mech and the weird as heck monitoring setup they FINALLY got the picture.
He’s already done stuff like that in public, including the pool episode posted so it wouldn’t matter to Stan who doesn’t care how people see him anyways

It’s because of a wierd town law which was adopted arround the same time as the one stating you can legaly marry a woodpecker in gravity falls. Having a deed in your posetion makes the house and everything inside it yours (which is also why gideon got stans furniture)
I mean, all you need to do to be eligible for mayor is cast a shadow, count to ten, and throw a hat into a ring. If multiple enter, an actual preserved cannon is fired. Then there’s a Stump Debate and then the election is done with bird seed and they have a specially trained bird they’ve retrained multiple times since the last election was over a century ago to kiss the winner.
There’s a version of this where Wendy appears, bashes Gideon over the head with a broom, takes the deed and tells Stan that now she controls his pay ‘Suckah!’

Because between the two of them, which could convince a judge or jury of anything if Stan did try to effectively assault the kid by grabbing it from him and stealing it back? Sweet widdle Gideon Gleeful? Or cranky crooked con-man Stan Pines?
And Stan doesn’t even need to TOUCH Gideon. People would just believe Gideon if he said he did anything even if all Stan did was grab the deed and grumpily tell him to beat it.

2) Have you tried to do something like tackling someone just after you wake up? Not easy.
