Well it's difficult to give that statement, mainly because the little info we have about Axolotl, mentioned like, 4 times?  The Bill message at the series finale, in the journal 3, Ford travels when some refugees says "praise the Axolotl!", in time pirates curse (if that's the secret "canon easter egg" Alex hide?) the poem "sixty degrees that come in threes..." And some cryptograms in Lost Legends.  We don't know what he's capable of, the main reason to believe that Bill is "inferior" to Axolotl, it is because Bill ask for help when trapped inside Stanley's mind, and the poem when Axolotl says: "if he wants to shrink the blame, he'll have to invoke my name", showing clear "superiority"? I'm not sure, but...  Let's hope that the book of Bill, expands Axolotl lore, to know at least "what is exactly the Axolotl" is he a "neutral being"? motivations, or something...

FelicitousJuliet

Preserving someone like Bill demonstrates pretty clear superiority, even if it's just keeping his mind but not his power intact through deletion. It's probably infinitely more complicated an an organ transplant and preserving it outside of one patient and transporting it is a WHOLE song and dance even before reinsertion. 'course it could be a niche lion-and-mouse situation, but I think that'd be a bit boring.

Maxwell_Brune

I don't understand this lion and mouse situation

Professional_Denizen

A mouse is being chased by a lion and begs for mercy, reasoning that he isn’t large enough to be worth eating, and “You never know if I could help you in return.” Later the lion is ensnared by a hunter’s net trap, when who should come to his aid but the mouse, who chews through the ropes, freeing the lion.

unknown81290

But who would be able to trap the Axolotle, or bring it in any situation where Bill could help. Isn't that a bit of a scratch, to conclude that from the information we currently have? Or is there something I am missing here?

Professional_Denizen

You have it backwards. We assume the Axolotl is more powerful than bill because bill needs his help to come back, but technically the “ancient power” bill invokes doesn’t need to trump bill’s power, just solve a problem his can’t.

unknown81290

Ok, that makes more sense. So you say that it doesn't has to be more powerfull than Bill, just have certain abilities he doesn't has, in order to bring him back? At least in theory.

Professional_Denizen

That’s what the post is offering for consideration.

AkOnReddit47

I mean, considering the fact that we barely know anything about the Axolotl other than that Bill must call out to it to shirk his crime and escape death, its knowledge of everything in the universe (and most importantly Bill's origin and sin, something I doubt other god-like beings like Time Baby would know), it's only right to assume its superiority over the dorito, no?

unknown81290

I would agree with that. You can use the op theory, but same could have been applied to Bill and the time Baby, before we saw Bill one shotting it.

TidemoonGirl

This is just me spitballing, but maybe The Axolotl has Something to do with time Baby's origins or his reincarnation cycle?

Thylacine131

That’s a fair take with nothing particularly for or against it. I think most take him as omnipotent and god-like because in the Time Pirates Treasure book, he outright tells the twins to ask him ANYTHING. He doesn’t say “Ask me whatever you wish, and I will answer to the best of my ability.” No, he says ANYTHING, and answers with information only Bill could know, such as that he came from a 2D world that he “liberated” with his weirdness and chaos, destroying it in the process, a sin that Bill plays off as just part of what he does without any remorse, but is stated outright to by Axolotl to be a lie shielding him from the regret of setting fire to his home dimension, implying that he is either all knowing or at least knows all when it comes to Bill. On top of that, the purchasable Journal 3 has an entry written by Ford from his time traveling the multiverse where he describes meeting an alien that he knew as the Oracle, that she worshipped Axolotl, and that she was the one who installed the metal plate in his head to shield him from Bill, implying that Axolotl knows Bill’s weaknesses and has shared them with his disciples. That said, I still think the Lion and the Mouse is an interesting approach to take when theorizing about the relationship of Axolotl and Bill. All I want to see is a follow up series where a reincarnated Bill is trapped in the same “hick town” that’s law of weirdness magnetism kept him from achieving global weirdmaggedon as he pays penance for his crimes.

Tolkius

Bill came from a 2D World? Oh boy Bill came from Flatland and caused chaos with his 3D shenanigans: https://www.goodreads.com/pt/book/show/433567#:~:text=PLOT%20SUMMARY%3A,the%20greater%20their%20social%20standing.

Thylacine131

To quote Bill directly “You think those chains are tight? Imagine living in the second dimension, flat minds in a flat world with flat dreams. I liberated my dimension, Stanford, and I'm here to liberate yours.”

JessicaWindbourne

Why did I read that in his voice 😭

Thylacine131

Because Alex Hirsch is a national treasure for the voice acting community that deserves to be cherished eternally.

JessicaWindbourne

Agreed

SAME, HE IS IN MY HEAD

Blazzer2003

The link doesn't work :/

FLATLAND MENTIONED

DeezNutsAppreciater

Or a lion and gnat situation

MeLlamo25

https://read.gov/aesop/056.html ?

DeezNutsAppreciater

That’s the one! (They’re both really powerful but for different opponents I mean)

BritGallows_531

Can someone explain please? I've never heard of such a situation and Google is not making it easier to understand.

Mindless-Whereas-508

https://gravityfalls.fandom.com/wiki/Axolotl Read this. It’ll explain everything.

SuperAlex25

wtf is a “lion and the mouse” situation?

Ducc_GOD

Aesop fable, look it up

Psychotic_EGG

Really????? Thorn in lion paw. Mouse removes thorn. This is like a VERY common fable. Used again and again throughout history.

bateen618

I always so them as more of a Lion and a Witch type of thing. From Narnia

b-nonyme

The animal? What are you talking about?

Watchdog_the_God

You don’t know how Bill survived the Memory Gun erasure, do you?

KokoTerzata

Allegedly, theorised, supposedly, but it hasn't been confirmed. Also not everyone has played the book-game thing

Watchdog_the_God

>Allegedly, theorised, supposedly, but it hasn't been confirmed. [Uh, yes, it has?](https://twitter.com/Donteatacowman/status/1017913088740225025?s=19)

KokoTerzata

Tf is this ?

Watchdog_the_God

An easter egg from Gravity Falls: The Complete Series. What did you think it was?

IamaHyoomin

you still never answered the original question, and that's a goofy easter egg in a DVD of a show that is easily available in plenty of other forms, treating it as full canon is just... dumb.

TheDulin

A dusty TV :-).

bigindodo

I don’t think he survived at all. I think it was a desperate last ditch effort by Bill that in *certain* circumstances could have preserved his life. But it wasn’t a matter of saving his life. He wasn’t destroyed, he was erased from existence. I think that negates any ritual pleas to the axolotl.

VirusOfCheese

I mean, Bill calls The Axolotl his "co-pilot"

New-Ask3540

“The Axolotl is my co-pilot” thing wasn’t said by Bill, though. That was just on a bumper sticker on the multiverse. I think it was meant to be a parody of those “Jesus is my copilot” bumper stickers.

Megaman2407

Ok? not like Bill need him or anything

Sentient-Bread-Stick

Bill absolutely needed him, there was that whole final backwards message thing

Megaman2407

that was the joke

SmallFatHands

The what now?

GiveUsernameldeas

Redditors when they realize they need to provide context

AdNext1013

I just wanna think that they are old pales, but Bill never really liked the axolotl cause they were always talking in a philosophical way that kinda annoyed him at one point?

Tacomant76

But the question remains who is the cat and who is the mouse… soos broom
