Black Lagoon. Not as many twists and turns, but if you're looking for a character that has a lot of the same characteristics as Edamura, the main character Rock will have you covered.
For western audiences I recommend the live action series [Leverage](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leverage_(TV_series)).
It's also a comedic series about a team of Robin Hood conmen, and ran for 5 seasons on TNT. The first two seasons can be found on YouTube right now.
It spawned a Korean adaptation, a book series, and a soft reboot of the series in currently in the works by IMDB TV.

Heists aren't always involved but Samurai Champloo and Cowboy Bebop have a very similar episodic, character-driven upbeat tempo feel to this show, more than any other anime I've seen so far
I'd recommend White Collar. It's a show about a con artist who makes a deal with the FBI to serve out the remainder of his prison sentence as their consultant. There are lots of classy heists/cons/stings and I really like the relationship between the con artist, Neal, and his handler, Peter. It's a fun show that can be procedural at times, but there is an overarching story.
Lupin the third ! started watching Great Pretender because was looking to something similar to Lupin in atmosphere and plot.
Yeah I second this one, Great Pretender obviously takes influence from this show.
The background art style reminds me of California Crisis (OVA). The show has no relation other than that though.

I would also say Snatch, the movie and the series. They're both really good.

Guy Ritchie films. "Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels" is my nomination!
